Are you happy you went into radiology?

Why did you pick radiology.

I have a general interest in rads, but I have never shadowed one. I have met plenty of radiologists who seem to LOVE their job.

Have you done 3rd year yet? It's hard to appreciate how much modern US healthcare sucks until you see it up close and personal. Lots of ungrateful, demanding patients who don't pay a dime and yet treat you like you're their servant. Paperwork out the wazoo. H&P's, admission orders, daily progress notes, discharge papers, discharge summaries, etc. Long hours. Call every 4th night. And I would be remiss if I didn't mention the nurses, many of whom are bitter, fat, and lazy. Having done basically a medicine internship, this has been my experience.

Being in radiology is like going to another world. You eliminate 90% of the BS you see in clinical medicine. You get to focus on the medicine, do cool procedures, and play with advanced toys. The techs also are nicer and don't give you attitude like the nurses.

I couldn't agree more with Taurus. I too became very jaded with many patients that frequent the hospital during my 3rd and 4th years of medical school (sense of entitlement, no sense of accountability for their poor health, moderately or non-compliant, consume a terrible diet, don't exercise, obese, hypertensive, diabetic...)

However, there are a certain population of patients that are very grateful, are generally extremely compliant and usually pleasant (depending on their stage of disease)...people with cancer. So, if you don't like Radiology, give Radiation Oncology a shot. While Radiology is a great field, if you don't like it you should consider RadOnc (the best field in medicine, in my obviously biased opinion).

Best of luck. 🙂

Radiology will cool if your attendings are nice. u can make money everywhere even at home. 😍
