Try "Jones reagent" It's chromium trioxide, used to oxidize alcohols and aldehydes/ketones to carboxylic acids. It can also oxidize primary alcohols to aldehydes under mild conditions.

Cr03 / h2s04 --> will make an alcohol into a carboxylic acid. This is the common Jones reagent.

Don't confuse with this:
Cr03, Pyr, CH2Cl2 40degrees C --> makes aldehydes (works same as PCC)
-see roadmap 6 in destroyer.
