Hey Guys,

This is just a post for all of us out there who are taking the June 18, 2009 MCAT Test!

First of all, I have been trying for an hour to get in, but the MCAT Registration site says

"Thank You for Your Patience" blah blah blah... wait for your turn!

Anyone else getting that out there?

*** UPDATE: Just got off the phone with MCAT folks and they said not to leave the webpage, or else you will lose your spot and they will open the registration link before noon.

********************** UPDATE 2: I just got in after having waiting since 8:05 AM this morning EST. I had turned on both my laptops and both the home computers. Just wait and you will get in. So, registered at 10:40AM

Once you sign in, everything is just normal! good luck!

*************************** AFTER TAKING TEST---

So friends, took the MCAT on June 18th @ 2PM

I signed in at 1:20PM, but was seated at 2:15PM, they had computer issues, but there were people who came after me and they went ahead of me, made me kind of nervous.

Overall, I felt okay, not good and not that bad.

PS - Some parts were good, but OMG, there were some where I was like, what the hell is this?

VR - WTF? Where do these passages crop up from? They are the most random passages. The one about Thoreau, Whitman was the most awkward one. However, the stupid passage on sperm whale topped in insanity and utter rubbish.

WR - The second prompt that related to dishonesty and friendship. How weird and awkward? I ended up writing about prostitution.

BS - O.M.G.! This was hard! This was harder than the PS in my view. There were some passages that were short, like 2 of them. But, there were one or two that were just tooooo long and weirdly detailed. The one with Colcine Acid or something like that that was injected into the mice, what the hell was that??

On Practice AAMC

PS - 8 to 10
VR - 9 or 10
BS - 9 to 10

Real MCAT Prediction - NO CLUE!!!!!!!

Hello all- long time reader, first time poster here, first time MCAT taker today and just let me say: AAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I f**king hate MCAT. Like OMG,OMG, OMG, makes me want to kill myself.

That being said, I also had the worst f*ing anxiety, by the end of the test I literally couldn't feel my hands and I thought I was dying. But I finished!

Anyway, I took at 2:00pm and came out feeling like I had been runover by a truck.

I took about 20 practice tests, and was doing consistantly well. Only the first 2 were under 30, max was a 35. Lot's of 32-34.

Ps: had been scoring 9-13 with an average lately being a 11. This PS killed me. KILLED ME! I guessed on the entire last passage plus a couple discretes. I don;t know if you guys who are saying it was easy had the same test but I did not think it was easy. I'm slightly annoyed that you all thought this **** was cake. That discs vs. block on a plane was like SH&^%, I know I should get this stuff but I know I'm gonna get half these questions wrong because this is confusing. I was so nervous and I probably wasted about 5 solid minutes staring at the first question trying to just breathe and I still didn't get it. Anxiety blows! Ps was my weakest subject but I do know so much material and I felt like I didn't get to show what I know AT aLL! I also felt that more studying wouldn't really have helped because the stuff I didn't know was so random.

Verbal: Comparable to AAMC. Not horrible, guessed on last 2 questions cause I ran out of time. Practice test average 10-11 with a few higher a few lower.

WS: I hated these prompts, unlike many of you it seems. I thought they were stupid and I much prefer to be able to use examples of real people, events, etc, and you really couldn't for these.

BS: Usually my best section. Average was a 12 on practice tests. Very little outside knowledge required on this one. MAjor critical thinking stuff. The anxiety hit me about half way through like a brick wall. STarted with the chest pain. I really almost got up half way through. I had that mouse metabolism passage, the NET bacteria thing, etc, only 2 orgo, some other tough bio... orgo not so bad although I'm sure I missed some questions anyway.

Overall thought:
GOd, I just hope I don't have to retake, I don;t think my heart can handle it. Tell me it's gonna be ok. I hate this mother #$%&&$% test. OMG.
You need a drink

Before the test, I pressed the (+) button on the monitor because I thought it meant + brightness....

It also said "input" and my screen went blank.

Now that this is over, who can i pay to find out my score RIGHT NOW?

Otherwise I'm going to stay awake until they come out.

Discs vs. block on a plane? I definitely didn't have that.
Which is strange, because I had the same bio passages as you. Maybe it's the experimental one? Or do they do the different test forms by section and not as a whole?

Anyone know? I hope it isn't experimental... although some SNDers would kill me =*(

Emerson = experimental please. (but I doubt it since the passage was like 9 questions or something like that...) that is almost 1/4 of the MCAT verbal. xD

I had discs vs. blocks

all the while studying physics, I thought to myself "MCAT would NEVER ask me about the momentum of weird ass objects"

pwned.

Alaska21 it scares me that you voided. You seemed like you would own this test with your practice scores and such. Good luck on your retake! Hope there is a massive curve for the rest of you.

Why can't they just give you the number scores immediately after the test like they do for the DAT and OAT, and just send the writing portion grade later on? Seriously, it would help in determining whether one needs to retake or not, and reduce so much stress. Blehhh. I need to know whether to sign up for a $1600 prep course or not...omg..

He voided? OMG disregard my last few posts... Sorry =X

My very last PS problem was like that. It was EXACTLY the same as a problem I missed before, like way back when I hadn't finished content review yet. And for the life of me I just couldn't remember how to solve it. I just guessed and went back to problems I had a chance at getting.

I read up on this stuff this morning before the test. I hope to god this part gets scored because i kicked its a**

Congrats to everyone... whether you voided or not, you have officially taken an MCAT😉

so... to the AM testers, I'd like to comment about the two alkene passages...

(a) that is BS as in bull****, but don't forget possible experimental passages! one of them must have been experimental
(b) Alkene reactions are not tested, Alkene naming is (I believe you have to know cis, trans, E vs Z, etc, and priority of naming

and as a 5/22 taker with a ridiculous Bio section full of 3 orgo passages, a bunch of difficult orgo discretes, and nearly as difficult bio, is it safe to say KILLER MCAT BIO is upon us?

don't worry, there will be a curve to compensate, at least there better be...

finally, I noticed a verbal passage about predation, was it just about predation, or predator prey? cause the 5/22 test had a predator/prey passage... guess AMCAS really loves to enforce predation... yes pun intended

I also felt much like I'd been run over by a large moving vehicle. Also had the NET passage. Was NOT a fan of the discs/wooden block inclined plane. As I've already voiced several times, haha. I'll stop now. I have to get up for research at 6am...what am I doing....

I did the exact same thing and freaked out! So, I pushed it again, lol. Everything was fine, then.

i didn't have that one either. what one did we have that someone else didn't??

i'm so pissed that i ran out of time on PS . . . one of the ones i had to guess on was the circuit, and i actually understand and can solve circuits.

. . . but not in 20 seconds 🙁

I think the circuit one was conceptual (kind of? I hope so? I'm probably wrong, I'm the worst at PS), but who knows.

And as far as passages go, it's a blur. I'm not really sure I remember everything. I remember some of the other ones people mentioned, like the iodine one. Ugh, I've clearly blocked out the experience. Clearly a drink is in order.

Join the club. JD with a splash of coke has been my drink of choice for the night

Damn! I HATE YOU SERIAL! =*(
I was also running out of time and thought it might be either the top or bottom. Guess I got it wrong. Sigh... Goes and breaks some LEDs.

Unfortunately I have no access to a drink right now, which is lame as hell. Oh well, there's always tomorrow, and the day after that, and the day after that...
but then I guess my research adviser will want to know why I'm hungover all the time.

i didnt even have time to read it. i just saw the diagrams and was like DAMMIT! i had to guess on the last few in like, 10 sec without even reading them- and I didn't scroll to the last one fast enough so i had one unanswered. RAAWR. pretty sneaky, MCAT, after giving me practice exams where i finished PS with 15 min to spare!!

edited to add- nevermind, i don't want to say too much. i am gonna stop thinking about it altogether!

Hell if you are in Charleston, SC I'll come bring you one. You deserve it after today

dude, wtf... the verbal was damn hard... I just kept on thinking to myself "what the hell did I just read?" ... I took the MCAT back in May and the verbal was waaaaay easier that first time. The verbal today was freakin' ridiculous. It got me so burnt out, I felt like crap by the time I started bio. Some of the bio passages required a lot of analytical thinking and I was so mentally drained I didn't care anymore. Plus, my room was really hot AND the lights went OUT twice!! worse exam ever!

actually can you edit out my quote i think i may have said a little too much

Hey there peoples. Let's please remember not to talk about answers to the test. This means no asking for what the answers were, giving away the questions, talking about which was right in any way. Thanks! 🙂

We caught ourselves. Thanks for the reminder though 😉

actually can you do me a HUGE favor and ban me so I stop going on this site

Haha. I really can't do much. I'm a lowly asst. mod. We have no powers like that. But you should all calm down. You're stressing me out and I took my MCAT months ago.

easy for you to say, with your score in hand! how calm were you the night after yours!!??

also i think this is months of pent-up desire to waste time on the internet . . . now we finally can . . . plus i think we may all be drinking, lol

I'm pretty sure that's what it is for me. I haven't spent this much time guilt-free online in weeks. Feels good. 😎

Right now I'm just relieved. I'm not even anxious yet. Now, the week before the scores come out, that's when the fun will begin...

I'm on my 6th alaskan amber and still depressed.

Getting back on the horse tomorrow...but tonight I'm just hanging with my girlfriend and crying.

AHHHH WHY DIDN'T I READ AS A CHILD!?! SHOULD HAVE READ #$%^&* HARRY POTTER OR SOMETHING THEN I WOULDN'T FAIL VERBAL!

Haha I had a rehearsal for my queenly ball the night of my MCAT so I couldn't think about it much. But yes, I know it's stressful. :xf:

I got 36 (12/11/13) on AAMC 10.

This test, 2:00 PM, ran out of time on the PS. No, I don't mean I finished but wish I had more. Just picked the closest answer to my mouse for two questions, and rushed through the other 50 (guessed on: something about brake lights and another for which the answers were a bunch of percentages (eg. 10%, 20% etc)).

Verbal was fine, on par with the AAMCs.

Writing. The first prompt was fine. Slipped in a relevant quote by Lincoln. The second one was just silly. How can we write an essay on that.

BS: Everything going smoothly until the final two passages. What the hell?? That mouse one had THREE variables and two graphs with four lines each. I mean come on.

I'll feel fortunate to break 30 on this one, despite averaging ~35 on the last four AAMCs; but that will necessitate a retake in September.

edit: If Alaska21 voided, you know it was a hard test.

Okay let me get this straight:

The PASSAGES are experimental and not the questions??? I always thought that a couple of questions here and there are designated as experimental from separate passages. So it's done collectively as a whole passages set?

I'd be extremely pissed if that Emerson passage was experimental...it was the reason I voided mine...I had absolutely zero idea what it was talking about, not even the main idea, after reading half of it. Then the girl beside me came in and went wild on the keyboard. I just never got back into the game after that. If only I knew the whole passage set was experimental, I could've convinced myself to keep focusing on the rest...

Tough day...

Know one knows man. But it makes sense for whole passages to be experimental, I think... Or else they will be recycling the same passages over and over again and you just don't hear about that on the forums. Also, I highly doubt the emerson one would be experimental... It had too many questions... (I wish it was though... :xf:)
