Hello SDNers -

I took the DAT last year my AA was a 17 :scared: needless to say, I plan on taking the DAT again.

I've been studying my weak areas for the past 3 weeks and I originally planned on taking the DAT again on June 3rd. However, my confidence is not where it should be and i'm afraid my test scores could be what doesn't grant me admission into dental school. I'm going out of the country for an internship this summer, so the earliest I could take it is late Aug./early Sep. (if I do not take the exam on June 3rd), which means I could study 2-3 hrs/day for 3 months over the summer.

Would me applying/taking the exam in Sept. hinder my chances of admission? Or, can I submit my application in July and wait to send my scores in September? How would schools know that I plan on taking the DAT again if I send in my application in July?

Thanks.

Honestly, drop the internship if you can. What's the whole point of you doing this internship? Most likely to bolster your application or provide you with some "fun". The single best thing you can do is to give your full attention to the DAT. That is what will make or break your application, not whether or not you went on some internship.

There are way too many people who are not willing to make the social sacrifices needed to get a great DAT score. Some of them try to justify their lack of studying because of some arbitrary extracurricular activity. Get your priorities straight, beast the DAT, apply early, and then go have fun.

Basically, what ktran said. DAT score >>> internship (especially if your current score is not considered competitive)

Agreed, drop the internship and study to take it in mid-June at this point. Your internship only helps if you have the numbers/stats to back it up.

internship won't get you into a dental school. a high enough DAT score will. drop the internship and study, study, study.
