Hey guys I am about to start my junior year and I plan on studying\taking the DAT in the summer of 08. I have not yet found a dentist to shadow yet, but I am in the process of finding one, I live in Tampa, FL and there are tones, so I'm sure I wont have a problem finding one. I will be joining a pre-dental club this fall here at my college. My current GPA is a 3.6 and about a 3.4 science GPA(but still have most of my upper level sci classes to take). I'm only in one other club which is an Aussie rules footy club. I just recently became serious about pursuing a career in dentistry, and I would like some advice about what other steps\extra curriculum\study tips I should do before applying my senior year?

Any advice would be great!

Thanks

Once you finish the pre-reqs, continue taking science courses. I recommend genetics, physiology, histology, anatomy and a comparative anatomy course (that allows dissection, preferrably of a primate). Keep your grades up, all A's if you can. Talk to a prehealth advisor at your school if available, have him/her try to get you set up with a local hospital or dental clinic where you can observe various doctors and types of procedures. Try to volunteer at the nearest dental school or better yet, try to enroll in an undergrad class at that school that will allow you to meet faculty. You should probably involve yourself in a research project, even if you don't alot that much time to it.

Most important though, are grades and your DAT (which I would recommend a Kaplan course and purchasing several other books for).

Good luck
