Just Ace'd my exam but unhappy

A young apprentice applied to a master carpenter for a job.

The older man asked him, "Do you know your trade?"

"Yes, sir!" the young man replied proudly.

"Have you ever made a mistake?" the older man inquired.

"No sir!" the young man answered, feeling certain he would get the job.

"Then there's no way I'm going to hire you," said the master carpenter, "because when you make one, you won't know how to fix it."

-Story by Mr. Rogers

Yes, we should all take advice on how to be successful from Mr. Rogers, some old deadbeat that sings when taking off his goddamn shoes in a kids show.

That's like going to alcoholics anonymous run by Amy Winehouse.

Nero was more of a piece of ****. He used to like acting. He killed his wife because she made fun of one of his performances. He got really depressed after he killed his wife, so he castrated one of his boy-servants and made him his wife.

And the best part, when he finally was forced to kill himself his last words were said to be Qualis artifex pereo: "what an artist the world loses in me."

Hey! He's dead. And magical 🙁

The only thing I don't get here is how you can ace an exam with less than 100%...😕

Other than that, I would, like everyone else, say don't get caught up in grades. Individual test performance is not going to show up on your transcript and no one else will remember beyond the end of the semester anyway.

it's not lame. Don't compare yourself with the rest who did worse. I'm taking Physiology right now, on every test there are only about 2 A's out of 30 people. I still want to beat the girl that gets the highest grade, and besides from that, not getting 100% means there's something you didn't know or study well enough. I don't care that most people failed, most people didn't put in the effort I did, and most people don't love the subject like I do. When you study a lot for a test, you still get let down when you don't get 100.

It's not good to beat youself up over it, but to be a little annoyed, I think is acceptable.

Right. There's a difference between being competitive and letting poor results ruin your day. It's great to go into class with the mentality that you're going to kick everyone's butt, but it's also not healthy to stress about it when it doesn't happen. Look at your grade, appreciate the fact that you could've done better, and then try to enjoy the rest of your day. Buy your favorite food, cook a spectacular meal, meet with friends, climb a hill, find a cat and huff it.

Not sure why all the jealous insecure punks are hating on you, but this is a good attitude to have. My motto is if you're gonna do something, do it 100% and be the best at it. Otherwise, go F yourself because no body cares about 2nd place except for.....2nd place.👍

OP is a stereotypical gunner. In order to compound it even further, the OP is an attention *****.

Either that or the OP is a troll.

OP should find other things to be sad about other than success. Or should find better hobbies than trolling.

Good thing you aren't over here. Orgo has about 750 students and in our 6 midterm exams we had so far, NO ONE got a 100%. You'd be disappointed after every exam hahaha. The mean on the last exam was a 41, and a 39 on the exam before that.

lets get this thing to 10 pages

It's only a matter of time. All this has happened before. All this will happen again.
The first hour of the finale was great, but then the second hour made me happy the series ended. So say we all.

but no one cares about 1st place on an ochem test...

Global Warming,

Try to get used to it. It is going to happen, a lot.

Deja vu? Didn't you say this in the c/o 2013 thread? 😛

And yes, OP is either a gunner or a troll, or a combination of both.

Recycling is good for the Earth.

Damnit, I need to get the DVDs for the final season already.

Also, what is this "Earth" you speak of? Don't you mean Caprica? :meanie: Although technically the Galactica is one heck of a recycling machine with air and water and whatnot.

Yeah I've figured that finding Earth is a foregone conclusion. I've gone as far as the end of the 3rd season when the four of the Final Five are revealed. Bob Dylan ftw.

Ok end thread hijack.

It's a bit different than you think, but it did confirm one of my suspicions from the first season!

I feel like my O Chem teacher turned me into a competitive little crap. Our first test I got a 92 on, and I was happy because you know, first test, a 92... not bad right? Well I go and talk to him and APPARENTLY because I want to go to medical school I have to worry about more than just getting an A, I have to worry about my rank in the class. So I went from a kid that was happy just gettin' an A in what I thought would be the worst class of the semester, to two weeks ago when I was pissed when I got a 103/105 on our test... because one person did better than me out 200.

Moral of the story... don't get your morals from your OChem teacher. He ruined mah lyfe!

Professors are the second most ignorant group when it comes to med school admissions... the only people who know less are pre-med advisers.

BTW, OP, why did you spell "Ace'd" all Shakespearean and poetical like? Is there some hidden meaning here?

That would be "acèd," not "ace'd" (or even "acéd"). What we have instead is a failure to recognize "ace" as a verb.

You're what is known as an intelligent idiot: one who measures himself only by his grades and not by the purity of his conscience. There is more to life than grades, much more.... ask any Med school admissions board the same thing.

I got the third highest grade on my O-Chem exam...(Solid A), but I am not happy b/c it wasn't 100%. Im not proud of the fact that I am unhappy unless I am the best. Comments?

Your university must be very easy. Where do you attend? All colleges should be as difficult as top 25. Why does our society keep lowering its standards?

Or someone who has serious insecurities acquired from high school, where his/her grades were not-so-hot compared to her classmates, who by the way are now at universities that actually require one to be at least a bit smart to attend.

Because idiots confuse "equality" with "equality of success" instead of what it really should mean: equality of opportunity.

If you fail, tough luck. Nobody guarantees you success ****in DEADBEATS.

As your attorney, I advise you sue the teacher for discrimination.

if you make it to med school, youll be among 100-300 fellow students that are numbers oriented. get use to not being #1. youll learn it's not a big deal anyway 😎

I've noticed. I had a bio professor tell me than it would not be good if I kept getting A-'s as far as medical school acceptance.

Seriously, my professors must get their info from this here Pre-Allo forum on SDN.

I didn't read all the responses to this, so this may repeat something someone has said.

Here is my take:

1. I do think it's a great trait to strive to be the best. At least you're ambitious and will try hard.
2. You are going to be miserable in medical school if you have that attitude. Way too many smart people in there, and you most likely won't be the best. The sooner you figure that out, the better. I was almost always at the top of my undergrad classes, but in medical school I am happy to get in the top 30% in a class, which is usually about where I am. It took me a while to accept that I wouldn't always be a the top. I still work my butt off, but try to be happy with the results, even if I'm not at the top.

OP,

Would you be willing to eat 1 cm^3 of human feces to be #1? 1 mm^3?

If you do, you will be #1 in my eyes....I promise

You loser! I made a 100 on my ochem test. Shame on you, lol.

global warming...one thing i am not looking forward to is going to school for the next four years with people like you. you give pre-meds the neurotic stereotype...thanks!

haha so true. it's really indimidating. then again, if they want to selfishly compliment their ego, go right ahead...I'll just focus on getting my mind on learning (and really do it through other people rather than by myself).

I think it's time it needs to be said:

GUNNER.

This thread exemplifies everything that is wrong with being pre-med.
