so i just got my step 2 back and really nailed it, thought i'd send out a couple emails to some programs i haven't heard from yet and totally committed career suicide....

accidentally sent an email to a program that was obviously meant for the one i had just sent elsewhere- the title even had "FWD:" in the subject.😱:scared:😱

where's the "Nooooo!!!" button on my computer at?!?!?

so if you're having a bad day, or not getting the ERAS love you had hoped for, cheer up knowing that others are out there screwing up royally 👍

Sorry to hear that happened to you.
You could try apologizing (nothing left to lose, and maybe they will be understanding). Even if it doesn't work out, you could view it as if they had not gotten back to you already then maybe it just wasn't meant to be!

Yep - a lot also depends on your applicant profile. If you are a good enough applicant for their program, they may still want you.

(Think about it the reverse way - if a PC makes a mistake in sending out some details e.g. say forwards someone else's dates to you, and you really want to interview at that place, you would still interview there right?)

you guys are pretty optimistic LOL thanks!

well on the verge between laugh-cry.... i'm opting to just shut down the ol' laptop and let this residency app season unfold however it's meant to be.

And don't accidentally forward emails to PDs that other people may have sent you in the recent past. Ahem. Esp with attachments and such.

sounds like a good black mail opportunity there Moseph...😉

OP, this is why you use GMAIL as your main ERAS email account.

i don't work for google or anything like that.

but GMAIL is the ONLY email service in which you can unsend an email.

I do not think this is a big deal. Just send a letter apologizing briefly for the mistake. It's an honest mistake that people make sometimes. Programs know you are applying to other programs... it's not like you are in a monogamous relationship.

I think this thread should have been titled "just committed application suicide."

Haha, ya I agree. I thought someone committed suicide because of problems with his/her application.

Just learnt how to do it today, thanks to this thread. I thought AOL once had that feature....

Wait, why are you directly emailing programs already?? Honestly, I'm confused.

Krust, if it's just one program, dont' worry about it. It's fine. Also, I'd re-email the program with an apology so that they know you caught your error and don't think you're sloppy. Just be honest and clear. Also, come monday pick up the phone and call the PC and be sincere and apologetic. My experience is most PC's are so so kind. They'll prob say something like oh, well it's good you caught your error, that shows you're diligent or something along that lines.

It'sElectic, the OP said he/she emailed programs that he/she hadn't heard from once he/she got their step 2 scores in. This is an attempt to increase "love" from programs 🙂.

my app was complete when i turned it in Sept 1st. and i know for sure that some programs have sent out at least one wave of interview invites soooo... if my app is sitting in some pile collecting dust, i hoped to get my name out there for one more look at a few of my fav programs.

great tips on the gmail stuff, just made an account.

anyway, sent a follow up email. simply explained that i was exposed to plutonium during an attempt to foil a terrorist plot to blow up Los Angeles and had a momentary lapse. these next few months will be the longest of my life...

I gotcha. I just had not heard of people doing this at this point (before the Dean's letter). I was complete 9/1 as well, and just got back my Step 2, but I simply retransmitted my USMLE scores - and every program had it downloaded within 2 days. I think I'm probably just a little paranoid about annoying programs more than anything else right now.

But I'm applying EM, so maybe it's much later in the game for someone applying to a different field.

Best of luck.

LOL! So, I'm not particulary great at picking up one's tone on internet communication, so I got to be silly and ask, did you really say that?!? LOL, if you did that's really funny and an ingenious way to cover your mistake, humor is the key! Good job!

Do you really think it will come as a shock to the program that you have also applied eslewhere? Now, if you stated in the email that Program X sucks, and accidently sent it to Program X, I see your dilemma. I personally don't see this as "suicidal" as others do.
