I have spend months reading people's comments and reviews about content books, FLs, prep. courses..etc.
I found that it's best to study by myself and buy the necessary materials to prepare for this exam. However, I realized that I'm spending a lot of money on all these materials and exams.
Books:
I started by purchasing EK 9th Ed. Close to 200$. I read a lot of feedback about this set and after completing some of the books, and I felt it's on point for psy/soc, and very helpful on prep. for CARS.
In late April, I read that EK 9th Ed. isn't enough for the biochem content. I didn't take biochemistry class and I decided to study it on my own. Therefore, I brought the Kaplan Biochem for 2015 MCAT 42$ to study for additional information that was lacked from EK 9 the Ed.
Now, I read the feedback from those who took April exams about psy/soc. I'm considering to buy either Kaplan's psy&soc book or TPR psy&soc book to supplement EK's psy/soc. They are about 37$ and 35$.
I have to say that the table of content of EK 9th Ed is very similar to TPR and Kaplan but their order of topics aren't. So, I think all three books does cover general information for this section exam. However, I think the major differences between the three is what they focuses on for each topic. If the feedback from April test takers were accurate and that names and different testing methods are high yield for the actual MCAT, then I would suggest to buy a second book to help you to be more rounded with psy/soc section.
As for verbal, I'm using EK 9th Ed. verbal and EK 101, 36$ and TPRHL verbal workbook 30$
Gen.Chem and Physic and O.Chem, I'm using EK 9th Ed. and supplementing with old TPR content books. The set of old TPR science set is 50$. I think this is enough for the currently MCAT. I mean the science contents of these three doesn't change much or doesn't change at all. Therefore, using the previous editions of these prep. books should be enough. It's Biology, Biochem and Psy&Soc that you need to carefully find the right prep. materials to study.
Exams:
EK 3 CBT 150$
AAMC Sample test 25$
AAMC questions pack 72$
MCAT 2015 exam 300$
Please leave your feedback on your purchases and the reason behind it. I think it would help people who can't afford to spend too much money, and help others to pick up the best material(s) for the price or offer ideas on what prep. materials to buy. Thanks.
