So i just got a really good job with an EHR (electronic health records) company, and I definitely want to inform the med-schools that I'm doing this. but i've already submitted my AMCAS and TMDSAS (TX resident), and obviously i can't update the apps once i've submitted them

i guess my question is how should i notify the med schools? i called the application services and their customer service reps said to just take an addendum with me to the interviews. now that's all well and good, but it means that only those schools that invite me for interviews will know about it, and I'd obviously like the med schools to know about this when they're reviewing my applications prior to interview invitations.

should i email the schools directly and tell them about this job? what do you guys think?

thanks in advance for your responses

Send an update letter to the various admissions committee?

Honestly though, I think it's way too early in the application process to be sending updates to schools. There are still a few schools who haven't released secondaries, and the admissions committees for many schools haven't even begun to evaluate applicants.

No no no. Just wait until it's time to send out updates (December and beyond). This job probably won't make a difference in terms of you receiving interviews, and any update right now will be premature. You can include this info on secondary apps too if you haven't already finished them all (you can't have, right?).

Do you know if any of the secondaries for the schools you applied to ask for "updates"? For example I know UCSF's secondary asks if you have any new information to share.

When you follow SLU's link to the secondary application, there is a place you to upload documents describing "updated grade reports, honors received, abstracts, application updates, etc."

As everyone said, just send an update later in the admissions process. That way, you'll have already interviewed at some schools and will know which schools will appreciate the extra information. Also, you can include other stuff from 1st semester (assuming you are still in school) like GPA, other EC's, etc. Besides, you wouldn't have anything meaningful to say about the job right now anyway.

It isn't really relevant until you have been working there for a while and can explain what you are getting out of the experience. Wait until you actually have gained something from the experience, and then send an e-mail update telling the schools what you have been doing since you submitted your application.

Some secondary applications, especially if you're taking a year off, ask what you plan to be doing in that year. Some secondaries have a question asking for any information you want to give them that was not in your AMCAS application. Don't sweat it. A job that you haven't even started, especially one not particularly impressive (no offense), will not make or break your application cycle. As others have mentioned, this is great interview conversation, and update silent schools with this come winter.

ok cool, thanks for the help

i guess ill just sit tight for now. i submitted the secondaries already to the 4 TMDSAS schools that have them (A&M, Tech, UTSW, TCOM), and the schools from AMCAS haven't sent secondaries yet.

so basically ill just wait until later to update the schools that I've been doing this job, but what would be the best way, email or mailed letter?

again, thanks for the advice
