I just got my letter of acceptance into the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine Minority Students Health Careers Motivation Program this summer!!!!

I cannot believe it, after applying to 10 program and getting 9 rejections I didnt have much hope, the programs I thought I had a really good shot at I was rejected from and then I opened up my mailbox, saw the envelope, read the first line 'It is with great pleasure' my mom was standing right next to me. It was so great. I know its not medical school i got accepted into but its 1 more step closer!!!!!

Congrats! Go out and celebrate!

So what is that, the U of MMSMMSHCMP....damn that's a lot of M's 😀

It's nicknamed Mini Med School as well. Its a 7 week program in which we take medical school courses taught by medical school faculty. We take courses in Human Anatomy, Histology, Biochemistry, and Immunology. We have a module in Bioethics, Clinical, and Scientific Ethics. We also visit medicine programs at the University of Miami Jackson Medical Center. We have discussions and workshops all that good stuff!!!!

Im really really excited but at the same time nervous and scared haha!!!

I don't get it ... you're really excited why? Do they accept you to med school after you complete the program?

why am i excited....because its an opportunity ive been waiting for and worked hard for.... no there's no guranteed acceptance out of the program, at the end you can have a letter of recommendation of your performance during your program written by faculty members. its an amazing opportunity!

Why would I not be excited?

I don't know ... cause you didn't get accepted. So, that means that you have to re-apply next year? (if all they give you is a letter of recommendation).

No offense, but I'd be pissed if I applied and got to go to summer camp and not start med school in the fall.

I didnt apply for medical school. I applied for a summer medical program and was accepted into the summer medical program.

Congrats! Unfortunately I think I was rejected by the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine Non-Minority Students Health Careers Motivation Program. My mommy sent my application addressed to the North Pole but I never got a reply.

the summer program will be a great way to get to know the medical faculty and administration and get a feel for life there. congratulations!

btw that's interesting that you're talking about a summer internship...there's no forum specifically for that so everyone just assumes people are applying to medical school in pre-allo.

hmm.. i thought you got accepted to med school or got off the waitlist

WTF! what would you do if you get into medical school?

Why are you people giving the OP a hard time?

Lots of other people posted about getting into these summer programs.

It's a great thing for a person to put on an application/resume, and it will really give them a feel for what med school might be like.

Congrats!

THANKS beauregard, appreciate the help! 🙂

Although, you have a great attitude, I think mini med-schools a.k.a U of MMSMMSHCMP and the likes are overrated.
Did someone have such a piss poor day that they can't be happy for some other person's good fortune? Really----cut the kid some slack and be happy for someone other than yourself.

Well, I can see that some people here are too bitter/petty/etc... and feel the need to give you some pretty crappy feedback.

But I'd like to say congrats! 🙂 Keep up the hard work, and you'll reach your goals. Best of luck!

I am not here to babysit any body. I am a thoroughly blunt MS0.

This applies to you as well.

Huge difference between being blunt and being cruel. Empathy is part of being a good doctor, but I guess it will take you time to learn that

Yeah, I thought the OP was talking about getting into medical school, until I took a closer look. Some might have had a reaction to that, I'm imagining.

In any case, congratulation, OP. I hope you have a great time and learn a bunch. 🙂 👍

Sorry about the confusion all, next time i'll title it more appropriately. Thanks to everyone with their positive feedback.

Don't worry; they'll start beating that out of you in August. I am sorry to say that you have many, many months of empathy training to look forward to. 😛

Congrats on the internship, OP. Are you from FL? Floridian here. 🙂

Edit: I can change the title of your thread if you would like. Let me know what you'd like it to be.

Thanks Q. Yea fellow Floridian, Miami

sure...i guess I just got accepted (Summer Internship) what do you think about that.

This applies to you as well.

Sorry, gonna have to step in and correct you on this one. The bitter/petty people are the ones who feel the need to beat down on this person who's achieved something that she really wanted. I'm offering congrats, so I'm afraid I don't fit that description.

And no one asked you to babysit anyone. Why don't you just ignore this person and go post in another thread, if you're so much better?

Just one (almost) MS1's opinion to another.

And to the OP, don't let anyone's crap get you down.

 Nice....

Congrats Doctormo! 🙂 Keep up the good work.

Good stuff dude. Sounds like a big opportunity to meet the faculty and learn more about medicine. This will look good on your apps to medical school. And i could imagine that it possibly can be a back-door into Miami Med. They don't set these programs up for no reason...its usually to identify motivated students. If you present yourself well in the program, i'm sure you know already, it can be a huge asset. Keep up the good work.
