Kansas Interviews??

Wondering if anyone had heard anything from Kansas yet for an interview. Nothing for me yet.

KU has already started conducting interviews. In fact, I had my interview this past weekend.

Interviews for KU run from March 23 through April. "That date of an interview invitation is not indicative of an applicant's rank within the applicant pool and is determined solely on the timing of when the review of a given applicant's file is completeted by a member of the admissions committee" according to the letter I received.

So if you turned in your file later or waited to take your PCAT until January instead of October like they want, the process may be delayed a bit.

Admissions decisions for KU are usually made in late April - early May, and you will be notified by letter. If you don't get accepted, you won't get a letter until mid-May.

Hope that helps. They run interviews clear through April and they notify you by e-mail (I got my e-mail about a week and a half before my interview). So I wouldn't worry yet. If you don't hear anything by the third week of April, then I would start to worry. Good luck!

They notify you about interviews by e-mail and let you know the date they want you to interview on. I know they do interviews on Saturdays and I am guessing a few days throughout the week. As I said in my previous post, they began interviews on March 23 and they typically run through the month of April. With the way the week falls this year, I would say if you haven't got an e-mail by around April 28th, you probably won't be getting one. All competitive candidates get interviews and at least one interview is required for admission into the program.

I know they typically do interviews through April and letters usually don't go out until the second or even third week of May. KU has got to be one of the last schools to make their admissions decisions. The last day of classes for KU is May 14th, so I would expect all letters to be out by May 21st, but that is just my guess.

As far as hearing yes/no from KU, I have heard so many conflicting reports, I am not sure what is true anymore. Some say acceptance letters are already being sent out, some current pharmacy students have told me they don't think any have been sent out yet. Some say 250 got inteveiws, some say 200...who knows.

I do know they typically send both acceptance/rejection letters out in batches, so it is hard to predict when you will get your letter.

If you have anymore questions I would be glad to help out. You could always call the Office of the Dean as well. The secretaries are all very nice and I am sure they could answers your questions more accurately than I can. Good luck!

Hate to be the bearer of bad news but the schedule we have seen was interviews went from march 23 - april 20. So anyone that has not gotten an interview already was probably not competitive enough for this cycle. Best of luck to all and hope the path to the mailbox does not get too worn as you are waiting for those letter. I also think they interviewed around 262 people this year.

ps... I didn't get my interview last year until the end of April, and then I got my acceptance letter around the first of June. So keep your fingers crossed if you are still waiting 🙂

To be honest, I am not really sure. I do know that the Wichita (distance program) will not start until possibly Fall 2011. From what I have heard I THINK they are bringing in 150, but I really don't know. The range as far as I know will be 130-150. Best of luck over these next couple of weeks, I know how brutal the wait is.

This year's class will have 150 seats. They will be filling all of them.

Acceptance letters are already making their rounds. I know of at least three people that have received their acceptance letters, including a person who the associate dean told personally "I could score better on the PCAT if I guessed on every question."

I think they are deciding this week whether or not they should do more interviews. Then the rest of the batches of acceptance/denial letters should start trickling out.

brittnic2008: It is pretty crazy that I heard of the same person that the associate dean made the statement too. I personally don't know the person or their name, but I was told the exact same story. Just goes to show that just when you think you have an inkling on what they are looking for: GPA, PCAT score, experience,....... you realize you have no idea.

The class will be 150 students per the Associate Dean of the School of Pharmacy. You are right in that there will be more seats becasue the new building is opening, but the number is 150, not 155.

From what I have heard from current students, interview dates are done, but the admissions comittee will meet this week to decide if they want to interview anymore applicants.

I have heard varying numbers of applicants interviewed. A fellow applicant told me the secretary for the Dean told her they were interviewing 200 and a current pharmacy student told me they interviewed 260-270 out of close to 400 applicants. Not sure what to believe anymore.

Wow, I think that the associate dean is pretty unprofessional for saying that to a student. While my PCAT isn't stellar (71) I would not be happy with such a comment if I was the student. Why invite a student for an interview if they aren't qualified only to belittle them. With all the talk about professionalism I would be embarrassed if I was that dean (a dean of all people). And then the student was accepted?? I am glad to see all things are taken into consideration anyway. That being said my interview last week went pretty smooth and everyone was nice. I did talk to an applicant that said his interview was terrible and he felt belittled by his interviewers. It surely has to be that some interviewers just do things differntly, just glad I got some nice ones. Good Luck to everyone!

Why invite a student for an interview if they aren't qualified only to belittle them. With all the talk about professionalism I would be embarrassed if I was that dean (a dean of all people). And then the student was accepted?? I am glad to see all things are taken into consideration anyway. That being said my interview last week went pretty smooth and everyone was nice. I did talk to an applicant that said his interview was terrible and he felt belittled by his interviewers. Agreed with you - I know all the deans decently well, and am surprised one would say that, but who knows.

My interview went well too - I got a couple nice guys too 🙂

In all fairness to the dean in question it needs to be said that his statement regarding "guessing on every score and scoring better" was NOT in an interview setting. From what I understand it was more in a meet and greet where the student meets one on one with a dean to go over their stats and get some feedback about the process and what they needed to do to be competitive. In my opinion that statement is very appropriate in that setting because the person needs to know that they will be at a major disadvantage with a dismally low PCAT score.

On a lighter note, does anyone know if they are just sending out acceptance letters now with all rejection letters to follow or if both acceptance and rejection letters are going out at the same time?

The adcom wants to make sure they make the right decisions. If they accept 150, they want 150 to graduate. They put you in uncomfortable situations sometimes because they want to see how you react to them, because tough situations inevitably come up in school and ultimately in practice.

If you have weak areas on your application, they will bring them up during the interview. That is their job. It may seem blunt or rude, but you really have to earn their stamp of approval, it isn't just given. You have to be able to make a case for yourself. If they aren't buying it, then I could see how someone could take their intentions the wrong way.

I agree with you on wanting to point out weak areas on an applicant. However, there are ways to point things out without belittling the applicant. I also agree with you that the interviewer may want to see OR get a reaction. I will still stick to my guns on this being professional, and I don't think it is the way anyone should treat anyone else. And quite possibly the dean pointed out some strong points the applicant had, I wouldn't know. I read they had 400 applicants, surely they had more qualified than this applicant, why invite them for an interview, and if so why approach them like that. I think a more appropriate question would have been, "you have a very low PCAT, can you shed some light on that for me?" If they would have said, I could guess and get a better score, I would say they are inferring that I am a stupid person. Just my opinion, but I still think it is unprofessional.
