Hello everybody!

I haven't seen a thread for Kansas State so I figured I would get one up and running. I already applied here, so lets get the ball rolling guys! 🙂 🙂 🙂

I'm really excited about applying to K-State! I just have a good feeling about the school for no reason in particular - I mean I understand that they have a great program and I love how many OOS students they accept and my friend who goes there loves it. If I don't get into my IS, which is likely the case (because Davis), I would be thrilled to get in here. Unlike you I am so behind on basically every aspect of the application!

I have a really good feeling about this one too! The only thing that would be a little crazy is that I am from Pennsylvania, so Kansas would be quite a change of scenery.
Anyhow, I am sure you are not that far behind! I just like to get stuff over with, and I'm only starting some of these supplemental applications. Which by the way are making me want to pull my hair out, while at the same time are draining my bank account 😳

I applied to Kansas last year and got an interview. The tour and seeing Manhattan sealed the deal for me. I ended up waitlisted, so I am still crossing my fingers. But if I apply again this year, Kansas would be on that list. 🙂

Just popping in to say good luck this application cycle to all that are in the midst of applying! I am starting there shortly and am quite excited.

I also wanted to emphasize how pleasant everyone has been at KSU so far - from the Admissions Office to Financial Aid in gearing up for attendance. Super refreshing!

I'm really excited to be applying to K State! My home state is Ohio but I've taken a few distance classes at K State and really enjoyed them. I started out taking Animal Nutrition as a pre-requisite for other schools I'm applying to and I just fell in love with the school. Everyone I have talked to there has been so nice and it really seems like everyone in their Agriculture program wants their students to learn and do well. Can't wait to get my application in!

Do you mind sharing your stats with us?

I'm also starting here in the fall. Absolutely loved the school when I went for interviews. I'm soooo pumped to be heading out in the fall and picked this place over a couple others because of the town, the people, and of course the quality of the education. Seriously love this school. I was OOS from CA so feel free to ask me anything and I'll help you out if I can! Good luck!

Hey I was wondering if someone could answer a question about the supp app for me? Where it asks for# of completed credit hours should I put those I have attempted or those I have actually earned? This may seem obvious but there is a little discrepancy between my hours that I have attempted and those I have earned so i just wanted to make sure. Thanks!

I'd go with earned, they will be able to see attempted on your transcript anyway.

Just wanted to stop in and say good luck! If you have any questions, feel free to let me know!

I called them about this last week and I was told to include earned.

So in the supplemental it asks for the gre scores to be enclosed, but they were already sent over to the school through the gre service. Does this mean I need to send then again by having them sent to me to send to them?

Unless they've changed their policy they require official scores to be sent directly to the school and the ones you send in the packet don't need to be official. My guess is it helps with organization purposes somehow? I dunno. I just printed a copy of my results from the GRE website and put it in the envelope with the rest of the required papers.

Yeah just go to your ETS account and print out the results. They're not official but I guess they just want something on paper for filing purposes. I love how old-school they are. 🙂

Good luck to everyone this cycle! I am applying for 2020 but I figured I would still scope it out through this cycle! Kansas is my neighboring state and they are a great school! The time I visited it snowed A TON but the risky trip was worth it!

This is the silliest question but the instructions for payment say to make the check out to just "College of Veterinary Medicine", did you guys specify KSU?

It seems like common sense, but I just had a banking issue with a check that had been made out to multiple people and was a nightmare to try to get deposited so I think I'm paranoid about these things now. Thanks!

Does anyone know what Kansas State's retake policy is?

Thank you in advance!

The closest thing to answer your question I have found on their website says that they do not accept required classes with less than a C, or any class with an F. Sorry that's not too helpful.

Does anyone know what Kansas State's retake policy is?

Thank you in advance!

I asked about retake policy a while back. If you retook a pre-req, they count the second grade (assuming its higher). However, he said they may ask about the lower grade (assuming its below C-) in the interview.

Thank you! I had seen one other place on the boards that they took the higher grade. I just hadn't seen it anywhere else, including their website. Thanks again!

I failed O-chem the first time around and then swung a high B the second time (amazing what a change in profs will do). They never brought it up in my interview last year, but I did know what I was going to say about it if they asked.

I know exactly what you mean. A change in professor can make all the difference in the world (D to A). My school only has one O Chem professor so I had to retake it 2 hours away. Hopefully my efforts will pay off!

I'm applying to K-state this year. It's my first year applying.... really scares.
Good luck everybody

The interviews were actually pretty relaxed. I believe it was 3 on 1 type interview. They pretty much read off of your application and ask you questions about it and ask one or two ethical questions/where do you see your future questions. It was all pretty straightforward. The upperclassmen did a good job of making you feel welcomed and relaxed while waiting.

Thank you! Seems like this is more my type of interview... even though I'm trying to be up-to-date on VetMed, I'm worried that they might ask me something I have absolutely no clue about. Kansas sounds much more welcoming and relaxed 🙂

I got my interview invite on November 9th. The interviews are, on average, 30 minutes, with three interviewers. For me, I had two professors and an alumnus from the school. They asked me general questions from my application, which they all had right there. Some questions were actually pretty specific to my experiences too. My ethical question was, "What is the difference between animal welfare and animal rights?". They were really engaging and not stoic at all.

The only question that I got hung up on was they asked me to "explain why laboratory animals are necessary to an average person with no scientific background". Or something along those lines. It was pretty much an ethical question about using animals in research (my primary interest is research). I thought I bombed my interview, but I was waitlisted and later accepted. I was told that they go thru a large portion of the wait list. When I was there the upperclassmen told us a story about a girl who was offered a position the first week of classes. They realized they had an open spot and 3 days later she was there starting class.

I was told the same story. When I got waitlisted, that's what I was hoping for. lol. I really wish they would tell us our position on the waitlist because it would have made planning out this gap year a lot easier. If I had know I was towards the lower end of the waitlist, I would have planned things out a little differently. Instead, I had to pseudo-plan that I was staying here in Colorado while also pseudo-plan that I was leaving (like saving money and such).

Called them today to check on my app and was told they are still processing supplemental applications. But they will e-mail everyone once they are done. Anyone on here at least gotten that e-mail from them??

Same no email. I wish there was some way to check online🙁

Are you guys referring to an e-mail to verify that they received the full supplemental packet and have record of all of that? If so, I received that about a month ago. If you are referring to interview invites and stuff like that, then no, that shouldn't be out until the first week of November.

I wish there was some way to check online too. I don't want to bother Dr. Elmore anymore, asked him a million questions before I decided on this school.

Oh man the interview e-mail would be phenomenal! But I was just talking about the e-mail for the reciept of the supplemental application, fee, etc. SummerTheLynx when did you send everything in? I was happy just get everything postmarked and sent it in Sept 30th.

Haha I gotcha. And I sent everything in I think at the beginning of September or possibly a bit before.

I sent mine on Sep. 29, we are probably going to get notified around the same time. Keep me updated!!! 🙂

I got the email saying they have my vmcas app and supplemental at the end of September. I submitted VMCAS first week of September and sent supplemental mid September.

Didn't get anything on interviews yet - that should be in November or December.

We probably will get notified around the same time, will keep you updated for sure.🙂

dcuellar - when did you submit your VMCAS app?

I didn't send in my supplemental and VMCAS until October 1st. I got my interview invite e-mail on November 9th last year.

Hey just wondering if they send out invites in November and lets say I don't get an interview do they also send out rejections in November? Or do they have multiple rounds of interviews?

They only did one or two weekends in a row for OOS interviews. I know it was for about 300 students. I am assuming if you do not get an interview invite in November, you would get a rejection letter.

I didn't get my interview invite until the second week of December.

Wow! That's super late compared to everyone else I talked to. You're the only person I have heard of getting it that late. Everyone I talked to at the interview weekend got theirs within about a week of me.

The OOS interviews aren't until late January, so I always thought they sent out invites through mid-December.

I just checked my email, and they emailed me to confirm that they received all my supplemental stuff on Sept. 8th. I am sure they are just really backlogged from people submitting things much closer to October 1st and everyone will get an email soonish!

That's definitely possible. I don't remember if there was one or two weekends of interviews last year. Mines was January 19th, so maybe everyone who went that weekend were simply people who got their invites earlier.
