Hi,

I am thinking about taking a Kaplan course, I've taken the OAT once while i was still completing my undergraduate courses. I did not do well at all , but did not prepare much at all. I'm hoping taking the Kaplan course will increase my OAT grad, has anyone taken the OAT course? online or in classroom?

Thank you,
Mona Lisa

I actually signed up for one of the classroom courses. I had to quit my job in order to make the class times. Then 2 nights before the class was about to begin (I had already received the books from Kaplan), I got a call saying they were canceling my class because I was the only one who signed up for it. They tried to talk me into taking the online one, but I'm not good with online classes.. So then they tried to get me to drive 3 hours away for the next closest class 2 times a week. Ridiculous. So I said I want my money back.. and they told me "send the books back and THEN we will refund your money." I basically said I was keeping the books and they were giving my money back as well.

Then I found out they do that with all but a couple of the classes held here in Michigan, probably to lure students into taking the online course. They cancelled like 8 others besides mine, and actually held 2 of them.

So if you do sign up for the classroom course, beware you might get a call like I did, saying it's cancelled.

The books that come with the course were really helpful though, especially the workbook. I learned tons from the gen chem and orgo chem parts and the bio section was also helpful.

yeh they want me to take the online class too for that reason i already have the book i hate online classes myself so i dont even know if it would be usefull and its soooooo expensive .

has anyone taken a Kaplan course online??

im taking the online kaplan course right now and personally i think that it is worth it. it gives you lessons and lots of quizzes and practice exams. everyone i talked to that took the in class course said it was a waste of money and the online class is all you should take.

from what ive heard i dont think the instructors in the classes are even well qualified. my friend took it last year and had to constantly correct the instructor. and another one of my friends was asked to teach the course after he took it and took the test, and trust me, if they think hes a qualified teacher, i dont even want to think about taking the class.

so i think sticking with the online isnt bad, it helps a lot.

also strive, since youve already taken the test once, kaplan has the offer that if you dont do better you get your money back, so its other a shot.

I know there's a money back offer if you did worse on the real OAT than on the practice one you take on the first day of classes. I didn't know there was another one.

A few things:
1) I took the in person course and I thought it was a waste of time. The online material and books would have definitely been sufficient.
2) For my course there were only two people in the class for the OAT, but they paired us with pre-dents because of the similarity of the OAT and DAT (and there were separate classes to go over physics).
3) The "promise" that Kaplan gives isn't really a money back offer. What they do is allow you to take the course AGAIN for free if you don't do better than your diagnostic score. Be aware that the diagnostic test they give is a MUCH harder version of the OAT than what you will actually see. So, unless they changed the policy from last year, they don't actually give you any money back, but they assume that you will take the time to retake the course and test.

Kaplan courses are good, they are helped me a lot. It depends a lot on where you taking classes and who is your teacher. If you live in NY register for Kaplan courses in Brooklyn for teacher by the name Victor Chen, he is amazing teacher, very helpful. Good luck!!!!!
