So, I was recently invited for a 7-minute audition/interview online for a DAT instructor position. Basically, I get to pick a DAT question from a given list of questions and I have to prepare a 7-minute lesson plan for it. I've already got an idea of what to do, e.g. for the most part lead the audience to the right answer instead of explaining the right answer to them, but I would like any extra pointers for this audition. If there's any Kaplan instructors out there who knows what they're looking to see, please let me know! This position is fairly important to me because I'm only taking 13 credits this semester and need a part-time job.

I did the audition and the interview and almost went into training before I took another job. Make sure you show lots of enthusiasm and really engage your audience. It's pretty easy to pass the audition stage. (I decided to turn town Kaplan because they makes you jump through so many hoops it's ridiculous, and you have to teach to a script and say things like "by following the Kaplan 3-step method...". And they don't pay THAT well either.) Anyway, good luck!

Been a Kaplan instructor for over a year for mcat/dat/oat/pcat. Most important thing is to not give a lecture; instead ask guiding questions.

There will also be LSAT teachers, GRE teachers, etc in that initial audition. So you can initially get away with asking questions that most of us would find "stupid", but the best questions are those that elicit critical thinking and good test taking skills. Incorporate why you can eliminate some choices, for example, after you spend the first minute or two going over content.

Just out of curiosity, how long did you have to wait after submitting the online application before they contacted you? I just applied to be an instructor last Friday. Thanks in advance! Hope you get it!

*Never mind. I just checked my email and I also got an audition!

honestly, if you qualify to be a kaplan instructor you have enough knowledge to be a freelance tutor. That's what i do, and in socal you can easily charge 40-50$ / hr

+1. I supplement Kaplan work with free lance tutoring and charge 50/hr

Congrats! I submitted mine yesterday and got an invite today.

Perhaps I'll start advertising over the summer on top of Kaplan if I get it. I think tutors are more in demand in socal than in Michigan. Also leading 2 orgo study groups this semester, so might be too much on my hands to bother with freelance at the moment. Will keep that in mind though.

If anybody knows or still teaches at KAPLAN, how much do they pay you?

So do they determine whether or not you get an interview based on your test scores?

I have revised Kaplan audition recording guide, but there is something I do not understand in the guide. the guide mentioned that "Start your lesson by telling us you are presenting on
MDOP Problem 1" , and I have no idea what does "MDOP" mean. can anyone help please ??
