I was taking the practice test in the Kaplan blue book and Im not understanding their answer. Its possible that I am making the mistake but to me it looks like there are 2 mistakes ON THE SAME PAGE on back to back question in the Organic section.

On page 680:
question number 92 says the correct resonance form is choice E but choices b,c,d and e all have a double bonded oxygen with a negative charge!

Question 93 they list as choice C but the benzylic carbon where the bromine adds has 5 bonds!

Am I missing something? Or are they mistakes?

The Kaplan book is loaded with mistakes. The only reason i put C as my answer for 93 is that I know it was the only one that made any sense, since the benzyllic H will be plucked off to form its respective radical. I was wondering the same thing about 92. It makes no sense that O would have a negative charge in any of those structures. Who knows, hopefully on the real test they would not make that mistake.

Ya, my same thoughts on both questions. Number 92 was just totally a mess. 93 I got right, but I wasnt paying attention and didnt notice that it had 5 bonds. Good call, that H still being there is evidently a typo.

Yeah, I've been noticing a lot of those same mistakes in the kaplan material. It's really frustrating because I don't get the score I might have actually gotten. Also in the bio section, it says that cardiac muscle contracts voluntarily which is very confusing. "Voluntary" in terms of muscle usually means that it is under conscious control which is not the case with the heart. They should have worded the question "spontaneously".
