I'm having a problem comprehending why the answer is a half circle instead of a rectangle. Any helpful tips on differentiating in the future would be greatly appreciated. Mind you every thing is not to scale in my poor drawing but of course in the book it is. The answer with the rectangle and half circle are correctly drawn to length to fit the questions measurements in the there.

Thanks for the help

Both are drawn wrong, you are correct, however the line on top should be solid not dashed. Whats new kaplan sucks again.

I would say to take a look at the "width" of the rectangle hole and see how much space is left on the edges from the top view. Then look at the front view to see if the edges of the rectangle hole is the right size or the edges of the half circle is the right size.
