Hi everyone,

I am taking my DATs in two weeks and I have taken the Kaplan review course. I was just wondering if the subject and practice tests that they have are anything like the real DAT. Are they harder, easier, the same? How about the PAT materials? Are they accurate?

Thanks A Lot!!!

I am taking the Kaplan DAT course associated with Baylor College of Dent summer program, and it seems that Kaplan's practice exams are more difficult than the real DAT itself. According to the local Kaplan Center Director, the practice are made to be more difficult to prepare everyone for the real DAT. For my own experience, I focus on the explanations to the questions I answered correctly and incorrectly and then review the corresponding material in the Kaplan book.

Dental students here at Baylor have told me more than once that how every many practice exams and hours you put into the DAT the better off you will be b/c a strong DAT will speak for itself.

Best wishes on your exam. We are scheduled to take the DAT on July 22. God Bless.

Check the DAT forum. There is plenty of info about it there.

I took the Kaplan course and did all of the practice tests at the center and online. I thought the actual DAT was easier in the Chem, Ochem, and math sections, about the same on the Bio, PAT, and a little tougher on the reading comp.

I'm glad I spent the money, because I think it REALLY helped.

I took the Kaplan course, and I felt like the class was a waste of my time. We were "instructed" by some kid who happen to got into dental school and who scored a 18 on his DAT.

With that said, the review materials and the computer practice tests were REALLY useful. Access to these materials is what made the (ridiculous) price tag worth it.

The actual DAT was MUCH easier then the practice exams in all but the PAT and the Biology sections. However, be advised that this was the case with the particular exam that I took, it might NOT be true for everyone.

Hope this helps.

P.S.- By the way, when I first started the course I got a score of 15 (AA) on my first full exam. On my last practice exam I got a score of 18, on the real DAT I got a 21.
