Hey Guys,
So I recently took the MCAT on May 31st. My BS section was a lot easier than the one I took on July 6th. But I just wanted to share my thoughts about how much these section tests helped me for the BS sections. First none of the material put out by test companies comes close to preparing you for BS sections. The closest and best one is prolly these section tests from Kaplan. They have experiment, information heavy passages which read like verbal sections. it forces you to understand and get better reading the experiments. There are hardly any questions you can just answer without reading the passage. Even the PS sections are wonderful to prepare for those tough AAMC passages which read like verbal. But as for the calculation heavy types PS sections, TBR and GS tests are your best bet.
Also another strategy is read the posts from previous tests. If the test dates before yours had hard BS sections and easy PS sections then chances are you will have the opposite. I know this helped me immensely because the test date before mine had a hellish BS section and pretty doable PS/VR sections. Ours was easy BS and hard PS/VR sections. It helps you mentally prepare before test day and cuts out any surprises. I went in bracing myself for hard VR and PS sections and I didn't panic.
Another thing, first time takers if you have the money take a test during a test date and void it to get a feeling for the real thing will be like. It gives you an opportunity to see the question styles and what really they are asking. Its kinda hard to prepare with AAMC's and other CBT's when the real test is not that alike to these tests.
Anyway those were my thoughts.
