Hey y'all!
Has anyone heard anything about these apartment complexes?
~Plaza Apartment Center
~Bella/Plaza Hills
~Dunleith Towers on the Plaza
I've been looking at a bunch of places, but am completely lost as to what is close to school and has a good location in respect to coffee shops/grocery store etc.
Also, what's the deal with the med equipment order form we got in the mail? is that a good deal? do we need it now?
Thanks for any insight!!
See everyone soon~I'm so excited 😀

Anywhere on the Plaza is good! One of my friends who is going to law school is living in one of those that you mentioned (I think). The PLaza is a great place to go for coffee shops, there are several within a few block radius. As for grocery stores, I'm not sure that there are any that close. There is also a great running spot right by the Plaza, and the best shopping in KC. I went shopping on the Plaza right after my interview and it only took ~15 mins. to get there in pretty heavy traffic.
Hope this helps a little. 🙂

Don't matter if it's a good deal. If we don't pay by July 1st they'll take away our seats.

well i think one of the upperclassmen said it is a very good deal, but that they have not done something like this before. additionally, yea, read the letter carefully, if you do not pay for it by july then you are no longer going to medical school 😱 ... at least that money was in the budget they allowed.... still sucks they would kick you out though... they must have a huge waiting list or something....

dewd... i can get on blackboard now! yay 🙂

I'm curious about this equipment thing. Can you explain further? What are your choices? Do they let you defer payment until you receive your loans?

I think the reason that they did this is because they really want you to be well equipped. A lot (and I mean most) of my class didn't buy all of the equipment required. Most only bought stethoscopes. Some bought nothing. This puts you at a disadvantage compared to the rest of your classmates. If you have to learn, you have to ask someone to borrow their equipment. I don't think the school looked too kindly on this as a regular occurrance.

yea... im kinda getting the feeling that you guys really "miffed" the administration heheh. i have heard the same line on a number of things that have rules right now... "classes in past have not done what they were supposed to or taken advantage of the situation and so we have decided to be more strict in guidelines, etc etc etc..."

I would really blame the class of 2006  because everything that we did was on their advice. I bought most of my equipment but had to stop short because I ran out of money (due to unforseen car troubles).
____________
holy $hi+... I just got an email update that said that Ray Charles has passed away.... how upsetting

I'm from KC and Bella is kind of a "party" atomosphere if you're into that. Lots of young people hangin by the pool and drinking during the summer. I'm not sure about the other two apartments you mentioned but anything down there is close to everything. The plaza is definately the place to be in KC and close to the school but traffic can get a little hairy at times. You will deal with that no matter where you are coming from though. Great shopping, coffee shops and night life. There is a grocery store about 5 minutes away in the Westport area. I think it's a Sunfresh. You will have to drive there though. Best of luck!

Also, you definately have to pay for your equipment out of pocket before getting your loans. According to a student ambassador they will not defer payment until loans come in.

oooooohh!!! night life = girls!!! 😱 whooo hoo!.... hmm nevermind... 🙁 ive been in kc about all my life and no such luck... i suck... ah well... back to the books... 😴

Congrats Class of 2008

If you are looking for a unique living experience then the City Market area of Kansas City is for you. My name is Tony Murino and I am going to be a third year and UHS (KCUMB) and have been living in the City Market in a loft since I moved here from Chicago. This is by far the best place in the city to live. There are so many places to eat and drink and plus it is only a mile and a half to school. There are no bridges to cross or expressways to fight traffic every morning. I can tell you there is nothing like waking up at 7:30 and still making it to class on time.

There are 4 building down here in the river market that the office that I work out of leases. All of them are great and have been recently renovated. The rent starts out at about $750 and goes up from there. These are ideal if you have someone to live with or have someone moving here with you. I work in the office mostly on the weekends but there is someone here seven days a week. So just call and set up an appointment so we can show you everything we have.

Check out the website at www.kcloftspace.com
Office number: 816-474-5638

Any questions post them here or call

so did everyone get that recent email about the medical equipment from the school today?? if you look at the email closer, you will notice everyone's emails heheh, i think i saw about 260 names... is that about right??... 😴

Yeah, I got the email about the equipment today as well. Wow! You counted all those email addresses. 260! Big class. No wonder they are advertising the fact that you can defer for a year if you like.

I hope your class is not that big.. the first year classroom only holds 250 people max. (thats including your section leader, lecturer, etc. ) 🙁

Don't worry, I'm sure by the end of the 1st week there will be many ppl who decide that coming to class is just not their style.

well i didnt count it exactly... i cut/pasted into ms-word, and told it to delete every instance of the semicolons. since there was about 1 per person, it told me how many it deleted... and then i know about how many... not quite an exact science yet 😛

Just wondering if anyone else is living at the Barclay Club next year. hope to meet everyone come August.

I bet you that there are not 260 in your class. The first few people are administration and faculty that are always included when a class e-mail is sent out.

Hey Cooldreams,

I didn't get that email...I'm not sure if I deleted it on accident or if they booted me from class because I forgot to pay another hidden fee. 😳 hehee. Could you forward me that email please. 🙂 my email is:

[email protected]

Thanx b4 hand

There will be between 230 and 250...but not all may show up the first day of class due to a change or plans or they switch to another school...but if there is more than 250, there's something wrong cause then 10 people will have no chairs cause Ricci only hold's 250 max...and Classroom B holds even less...as for the equipment list...the only thing you'll ever use during the first year is the stethoscope and Blood pressure cuff, those are the only "required" pieces that is worth the money, I'd buy a good one...however...I used an Otoscope for the ear once when I volunteered for physicals at schools and nothing else...since doctors offices always have everything...I used my blood pressure thing, I forget what its called a few times as well...those are the only 2 real things that you need if your on a budget, the only reason I'd buy the others is to fool around with it for practice, but if the list says to buy it all, e-mail other students or someone like Don Weaver, the education development person who is student friendly when giving advice, as well to see if they have used everything...my idea is to spend the least amount of money...its cool to have, but unless they drastically change things, you probably won't be using it much the first year. The prices on that list are usually a good deal though you'll save a lot buy buying now...more expensive to buy from the company on your own in the future after med school.
Later,

just double checked the list. pretty much looks to be 260. i cross referenced the email addresses with those on the main contact list on the uhs site to be sure i did not include staff. then i double checked my count using other methods. 260.

additionally, the medical equip that we are all talking about is something that we are forced to buy, and buy ALL of it now. failure to comply means losing our seat. there are no alternate routes given. when questioned about their ultimadem here, they referenced previous classes attempts to not be prepared with what was required of them 🙄

have fun! 😴

Hey all,
Have any of you used, or considering using, a Medical Dictionary on a Palm (or Pocket PC)? I have heard that Stedman's is the best - any thoughts?

Hey everyone, the discussion board on the UHS blackboard is now open.

Hey guys,
Did you get the email about 2005 scholarships? They must have way overbooked this years class! I wonder how desperate they are going to get? If they offer me a new car I may be willing to defer!

I wonder if they did the same thing last year. That money would sure be nice though.

Yeah, but the scholarship is not automatic! I think you "have the opportunity to apply" for the $$$. They are going to have to do better than that!

as far as I know there was only one or two leadership scholarships avaliable for fall of 2004. I don't know if admissions overbooked or if they are actually trying to help the incoming. I guess we will see Aug 2nd.

are you sure that is how that is?? wonder if you could get them to garantee the scholarship given certain conditions...

So where is everybody going to be living next year?

I'm going to be at Century Towers.

CT 1014. Do you know which floor yet, danswu?

5th floor. There seems to be alot of people on the 10th floor though. Did you guys request it for some reason I'm not aware of? Perhaps the view?

hello upperclassmen!! hehehe

Did you defer so you could get one of the half-tuition scholarships ?

maaaaaybe 🙂 dood... seriously... ill come out with like no loans... that is gonna be so awesome... good bye 250k loan nightmares... 😀

plus there were a few other things that i can now do that i wouldnt have had time to do otherwise... this could not have worked out better in my opinion...

I am right there with you. I just accepted my scholarship. Tough decision but 60K reduction in the amount I would owe outweighs any of the negatives. So, I will see you in next years class.

hey congrats. hehe at the very least, such a large scholarship should look good on a resume right?? 😛

Yo, it sounds likea pretty good deal, but in my mind it's the whole instant gratification thing: save some dough now at the expense of whatever happens later. I'm thinking that the faster I can get out of school the faster I can start earning some real dough, the faster I can get my Lamborghini and live a fat life. After all, isn't that what being a doctor is all about ;-)

My roommate and I heard that the 5th floor is kind of a party floor, i guess that's where the lounge and all the stuff is, so it might be a little loud. and i think our choices were 5th, 6th, and 10th. i can't remember why we chose 10th. Prob. had something to do with humping it all the way up and down the stairs when the elevator breaks down.
and this way we can get all the good looking chicks to live up there too 🙂

dood... i was worried about going into fp or em with huge loans, now i can realistically and easily consider those choices. so i guess it is sorta about the money, but for me, more about what i really wanna do.

but if a lambo will makeo youo happyo, then go for it... 🙄

what?!? ahhh my ears are bllee.. uh... hmm.. yea my eyes!!! they bleeding from reading that!!! ahhh!!!! hehehehehe 😀

Just to warn you guys... the school does monitor things that are said on this website... So just to warn you watch what you guys say.... especially joking around or whatnot.

Anywhoo...
We apparently are not having anything that you can meet my class at planned by the school the first week, because the MS II's aren't required to be there until the next week.

I'll be around checking my email.. if anyone cares to ask questions.
good luck guys.
Have a good one.

MCWIHEA,

It is a very nice scholarship to get, and i would suggest to anyone who can get it to try for it. It is not given to everyone who will defer, you need to contact the staff there to see if you are eligible. They are very nice and helpful everytime you talk to them (this is a surprise to me coming from some of the places i have been to) so dont hesitate to ask. Didnt you get the email from them?

Yeah, I'm pretty sure I got it in an email, but can't remember for sure since I know I saw it out on Blackboard as well. I will give them a call and ask if I quailify. Thanks!

Well thank God that I was already given a scholarship (1/2 tuition for each year) when they offered me acceptance into the program! Good luck with everything and I look forward to meeting you guys!

so you are the other one for 2008

yea I got one of the scholarships for 2008. It is a huge blessing and I am very greatful that KCUMB thought enough of me to offer it to me!

Congrats on 2008 scholarships. that would have been nice. Where are you from in Louisiana Bob. I am located in New Orleans. Nice to know there is a fellow Louisianian going to KCUMB. Good luck and I will see you in 2009.
