Man, all this talk about moving to KC, and WCC has me so excited about next year. Can't wait to meet you all. jamie
Where will the WCC be held?
I am not quite sure, as Ms. Jones mentioned something about an auditorium and a hotel downtown. She gave me the impression that the ceremony would be at one location and then maybe a reception at a hotel downtown afterwards? Sorry, she was not very specific - however, we should receive more information regarding the event in June. Hope I was a little bit helpful.😕
My ETA is still up in the air. Hoping to secure housing and move down at the end of July... we'll see.
Also, BScheu18, I see that you're busting out the Power Cat avatar! 😎
Anything bad about the clinical years in KC or do you just want to go somewhere closer to home?
It was my understanding that the new auditorium KCUMB is building would be ready by then and that we would be the first class to have our WCC there...
Its still setting in to me that we're all going to be studying medicine next year, and we're all going to be doctors... I'm still blown away at the thought...
I finally gave in and decided to go with the convenience of CT. Found out today that I have an apartment already. Guess all that is left is to wait on my financial package/other paper work and get ready to move in July. 😀
Harvey, did they give you a date when you could move in? When I talked to them last they said they wouldn't know until May 1.

I called and asked. I was told August 1st and she was pretty specific and firm about that. She said old residents move out on July 31st and new ones move in on Aug 1st so they only had 24 hrs to get 200+ rooms ready. (If that sounds fishy, dont blame me. Im just repeating what I was told). She said we should get more info (specific apt #, etc) in a packet in June. I REALLY wish I could get down there earlier to just chill and enjoy the city before classes. But I guess two weeks will have to do 🙁
No they didn't mention anything to me. When did you put down that you would like to move in? I said that I would like to move in middle/end of July.
Unfortunately, what they told you is the way it is. As a current CT dweller, I can attest to the fact that new apartment leases begin Aug.1 for everyone. There may be some very few exceptions to this (I believe sprintntiger is one of those). Sucks for those wanting to move in early, but you can always hope to be the exception to the rule! 🙂
I put down that I would like to move in around July 15th and the people there said that there's a good chance I could get it as I've had a deposit down since November. I know leases officially end July 31 but I was told many people move out before then.
How many people have read (planning on reading) the medical terminology book?
For people who have submitted their fafsa, once you submit do you recieve something from fafsa people or only from the financial aid office of the school?
Like the students that move for their 3rd year rotations or graduates that will begin their residency July 1. There should be a few open apartments in July, don't you think?
It has happened....the anxiety has set in! 😀
Last night I had a dream that it was the day of our first exam and I was LATE to class! When I finally sat down to take the exam it was all stuff I'd never even heard of! I just remember a lot of greek letters! YIKES! 😱
Anyone had a similar experience?
One more reason to live in CT if you haven't decided to do so yet. As far as the exam, I haven't had that type of dream yet, but I am sure once school starts I won't have to wait to experience that during my dreams only.
I'm really interested in doing an international rotation or two during my third year. However, at my interview they said that they are currently not allowed but they are working on it. One of my interviewers hinted that if interested students would get involved it might go faster. I'm planning on offering some of my limited free time to try and get some of the issues worked out. Does anyone else here know anything about it or would you be interested in getting ivolved?

I thought I read something on the website before and this is what I found:
DOCARE International
DOCARE International is an osteopathic outreach program that conducts medical campaigns to Latin America. In recent years, the University has organized missions to Yucatan and Guatemala. Third and fourth year medical students are encouraged to participate in these mission trips. Members of the DOCARE student chapter participate in medical Spanish classes and other opportunities to promote the outreach programs.

Does anybody know what the deal is with a roommate list for CT? For that matter, is there anyone with a two bedroom reserved and looking for a roommate?
Man, this thread has gone quiet. I guess there's not a whole lot to talk about these days. I feel like were in the limbo stage right now. No new news just waiting for school to start. How many sports fans are there on this thread? Will you be taking advantage of the opportunity to go see Royals and Chiefs games?
I would love to hit up some Royals games. Not bad since we could get decent seats for under $15. A Chiefs game would be awesome, but I'm not sure I could afford to go to one. Chiefs always have their season sold out at home, so I am guessing tickets are gonna be quite expensive.
Just curious, are any of you into outdoor activities such as hunting/fishing/camping? I'd like to try and enjoy some of these activities while I am there and want to find good locations and people to go with.

I'm looking forward to seeing some baseball or football. They're also in the process of building an arena and are trying to fill it next year with a hockey or basketball team, so I hear.

I love to fish. For anything that swims. I know that there are a few resevoirs/lakes in the immediate KC area. The Missouri Department of Conservation operates a fishing program that plants bass and bluegill in private ponds if the landowner/pondowner opens their pond to be fished by the public. I have also heard of the Missouri River's excellent catfishing opportunities. They also have Sauger (like a Walleye) runs in the Spring.
Hunting. I enjoy the pursuit of deer, but without help from someone who is NOT in medical school, I think it will be kind of difficult to do all of the scouting, etc. that is needed in the preseason to be successful after moving to a new area of the country. In Michigan, we just have whitetails... in Missouri, there is a chance for some muley's.
I've also heard about the midwest's legendary pheasant hunting opportunities. In Iowa, one can walk down the side of the road and hunt pheasant. I'm interested in similar opportunities closer to the KC area... or would be up for a drive to Iowa on a weekend.
I think it would be cool to organize some fishing or hunting expeditions with fellow students.
KC Royals games. I have been a Detroit Tigers fan since I can remember. Moving to KC for school means that I'll have to give up my season tickets.... but it also means that I'll get to see the Tigers anytime they play at Kansas City.
And as for the Chiefs. Thank God I will have another team to cheer for in place of the perennially horrible Lions.
Personally I hope they get a basketball team. 👍
