KCUMB Class of 2018

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Hope everyone had a good break and is ready to rock and roll second semester!!!

It went by too fast! But I least I feel rested. Wish I could say I did all the prereadings!

I know. I haven't checked, but is any of the week 2 material posted already?

Wow! Already looking for week 2? I have opened some of the material for week 1 but for some reason can't focus enough to really read it, so did not even check on week 2!

Good morning, and Happy New Year!

I hope you all have had a relaxing and restful break. Just a reminder that the new semester begins tomorrow, January 5, 2015. Attendance will be taken at 9:50 a.m., all students should bring, and be prepared to use their i>Clicker. Allstudent's should be in the classroom and seated by 9:50 a.m., if not earlier, so attendance can be taken.

I appreciate your cooperation, and look forward to seeing you all tomorrow!

Feel free to contact me if you have any questions or concerns.

You have got to be kidding me. I hope it's just because Dr. McCormick is teaching.

She's not even teaching tomorrow. I hope this isn't going to lead to mandatory attendance. Olinger probably doesn't care if students show up.

This is a joke. We aren't flying in til mañana and are going to miss this. I don't know how they are going to be able to take points off if it says it isn't mandatory online and we aren't there is over 50% attendance.

It better not lead to mandatory attendance for everything.....I learn nothing in anatomy lectures. I was all excited to not have to be at school until the afternoon tomorrow.......blergh.......

If this leads to mandatory attendance then at least half the class will be screwed. Some of us already formed our study style and having mandatory attendance will lead to wasted time and ruin this for many students.

It's pretty ridiculous for a medical school to force students to come to class. We are adults. We aren't skipping class to smoke pot. And what if we learn better at our own pace? Give me one good reason why a school should make attendance mandatory.

My grades went up when I stopped going to class. I actually learned a whole lot more.

I don't want to jump to any conclusions yet so let's see how it plays out.

Well, blah on this day....totally could have missed all of that. Here goes 2nd semester.

Oh and midterm renal exam is Monday. Haha.

M4 here, but the attendance sign in today may have been to satisfy the Title IX requirement. M3's and 4's had to click a button on blackboard to verify attendance so the school can be in compliance with Title IX for the feds.

Then again, perhaps they're trying to bring back mandatory attendance... Hang in there guys!

And according to the syllabus it's worth more than the final. Welcome back I guess :bigtears:

The exams are only worth 60 and 55 points. This is such a weird block.

Yeah, it was just for some administrative stuffs.

Do you guys have a go to resource(s) for practice Qs?

I use the Board review series and first aid Q&A book. If you go to Ray, the learning specialist, he'll give you an electronic copy of the first aid book and maybe some BRS series books. The only annoying part about them is that some sections have a lot of questions pertaining to stuff we won't know until next year. I still get about 50-60 solid questions per section just from those sources though.

Feeling humbled by that renal exam. Some of those questions I seriously didn't know WTF they were even getting at.

Calling avg ~78% +/- 2

Starting the semester right! Renal exam down.

Rumor is avg is 80%
Destroy that test?! Yeah I bet its around there maybe lower. Surprised a lot of students were still there til the end.

Yea, it was a time cruncher, I overheard a few people say they ran out of time. I'm usually a pretty fast test taker and am usually one of the first ones out and I had about 5 mins left. There was a lot of reading.

I am usually done with a lot of time left and I hit end test at two minutes left.

Why are the grades not posted?!

No idea, they don't even have the quiz grades up yet. They are taking their precious time.

Really curious for the average, as I'm sure everyone else is.

Yea, I don't feel like a med student? Hah

Exactly....I'm looking at this stuff thinking "why do I have 4 days to study??" And then freak out that the exam is going to be really hard....lol. It's not motivating me though.

Well, we just finished the whole section so its final exam study time.....post midterm was ion handling and acid-base stuff. Plus immuno. Good times.

Gah someone help me study for my immuno test Tuesday! I seriously am having trouble seeing the first for the trees here. Haha

It seems like they give us extra time for the physiology heavy blocks. With the other ones all we have to do is memorize. Maybe they're afraid we wouldn't have enough time to integrate the material?

And physiology is way heavier on the boards than anatomy

Also 4 groups presented for grand rounds this section (2 last Wednesday, 2 next Wednesday), so they may have given more time for those people to study so those 40-45 people aren't completely screwed. Then again Idk if they have that much foresight...either way, this much study time is pretty nice.

Anyone else applying for the global track?

Yeah who knows....people have to present during endocrine and we have exactly ONE exam for that whole block. Yay....I love my whole grade riding on one exam.

I like that there are only 80 questions on the final. Basically no review of pre-midterm stuff. Woot.

Yea, I hated that about GI and we even had a practical. It's nice having a midterm to see where you stand.
