Hey guys, just wondering.. after being accepted to the school you choose to go to, how do schools evaluate the rest of your grades for those of use who are graduating in MAY 2012? Do you think it is safe to say that you can "relax" a bit now, or it is important to keep up your grades to the same standards as those upon which you were accepted??

let me know what you think!

i had one class second semester that actually pertained to dental school requirements and my major last spring and that was my worst grade that semester. just make sure you pass and i'm sure you'll be fine.

unless some schools i've heard which have specifically told a person that they want to see their grades for their last semester.

I think that it's only human to "relax" a bit after acceptance. We aren't machines, but at the same time it all depends on how much you "relax." I'm still going to work hard at school, but my attitude has changed a little bit from absolutely having to get all As to an attitude where I feel that as long as I put an honest amount of work into learning the material, then I don't really care if I get a B or two.

Ye, thats kind of where i am now too. before i was neurotic to get all "A"s now after being accepted I'm just doing the best I can and hopefully getting a few B's will be fine. I just hope dental schools won't think " after she got accepted she became a slacker and went from all A - all B" loll

I think as long as you fulfill what is requested in your acceptance agreement (i.e. C or better i pre-reqs, or whatever), you'll be fine. I've wondered what would happen if you have, say 4 pre-reqs left, and get straight C's in all of them. The school/faculty may frown heavily upon that, but I'd bet they would still accept you, since technically you fulfilled the agreement (if that's what your agreement was).

Only one of my acceptance letters has "provisions".

1. Complete degree stated in AADSAS
2. Complete any pre-req's with min C grade.

Then it listed two classes, which I am taking, that is required for that school.

Other than that, game on! Just pass with min C grade and you should be fine. I wouldn't go crazy with it, just use common sense. If its an easy A or B, go for it. If its a ball buster of a class and you can live with a C, go for it.

So yeah, totally relaxing and not going into machine mode. Just managing the grades.

From what I've seen with the schools I'm looking at, as long as you keep your pre-req. grades above a C, you should be fine. But again, it varies with each school, UNLV wants me to let them know if I get a B or lower. That said, Senioritis has definitely afflicted me badly, I just hope I did decently enough yesterday for my final in BioChem!

Yes, you're right.

I agree with you.

Yeah so one of my letters only had "complete degree on AADSAS"... but then when I spoke to an admissions person, they said I had to have a certain minimum GPA (and it's fairly high). So I guess, maybe make sure that it's okay to get C's even if the letter doesn't say so!

That's really good info to know... unprofessional on the part of the school that they didn't offer that info upfront to you, but good to know. I could see a lot of potential problems being raised up from this if accepted students weren't aware of that "fairly high" GPA req. and then ran into issues come final transcript/matriculation time because they slid through their last semesters on Bs/Cs.

In the grand scheme of things, if you have a high GPA and your about to finish with your degree... In all reality, if you continue to get all A's and you get a lonesome C, it will drop you 0.1 GPA points. So if you had a 3.978 GPA, you would now have a 3.878 GPA.

Not being particular here, but that is still a "fairly high" GPA.

Granted, if you were at 3.7 and it dropped you to 3.6... Maybe that would be a problem..

But...

So... I was trying to be vague, but I guess I was a little too vague lol. The specified GPA that I was given is for my remaining classes, not overall. There's NO way I could drop to that GPA overall even with all Cs. But, if I were to get 1 C in my remaining classes, I would be cutting it very close, depending on my other grades. So it's not super high, but it's high in comparison to what other schools want.

So I thought I would update...

Made it through this semester with all A's and a B.

So, no C will eva grace my transcript!

Next semester, much easier load.. Biochem and comparative anatomy.

Then done! Woot!

Gonna get a DDS!!

Again it all varies based on your acceptance letter. Some schools will want a certain range others just want you to pass.
