You are correct, I am considered in state. However, I live in MN, but my parents still live in WI and graduated from a WI high school. So I am one of the fortunate people to have residency in 2 states.

I'm a non-trad, graduated in 2000. Thankfully, no longer a dependent.

K Bucky... another question? What did you put on your application...

I'm a TX resident (parents live there and graduated high school) but I'm in PA now starting work Sept. 5th... does that qualify me for PA residency?

don't jinx me! i still haven't heard from jefferson or vcu...but i submitted jeff the day after it was out and i think most people submitted it that day, so that might be why. and i wasn't complete at vcu until 8/2.

and i will come up with every possible reason why i haven't heard anything yet :D

If you will be working in PA for 1 year before matriculation, and you will be filing your taxes as an independent in PA, then you would probably have to indicate PA as your state of residency.

i dont know, jackie's missing out on a lot and it's making me sad! and we have no one to shoot down all the stupid questions :(

thanks for the encouragement. i think i have a slight case of ADD...each interview invite can only keep me entertained for a short period of time before i get bored and need more stimulation.

On AMCAS I'm listed as a MN resident. However, for the UW-Madison secondary I completed the residency section, indicating that based on their standards, I am WI resident. Same situation for Med Col of WI.

If I read your post correctly, you are starting work in PA in a few weeks. I would check into whether or not you could be considered a resident of PA too. If so, I'd update the schools you applied to in PA. Good luck!

i think for PA, you have to show proof of residency for either 6 months or 1 year.

on my AMCAS, i'm a NJ resident (parents live there, i still pay NJ taxes), BUT i've lived and worked in PA for a year and a half-- so i also pay philly city tax.

hence, dual residency. i think a lot of it has to do with taxes. oh, and my license is still NJ.
 
Ho Hum...no interview invites on my birthday yesterday. Not that I really am expecting something this early with my stats, but it sure would have been nice....ho hum.. :(

I'm in a similar situation. My parents live in PA, and up through this last tax period, I was listed as their dependent. I went to school in Boston, and then started working in Boston in July of 2005. I still had a PA license at that time. Because of the PA residency while working in Boston, I ended up paying a crapload of extra tax $ to the city of Pittsburgh, since I was still technically a resident there. In order to avoid that situation for next year, and since my parents would not be filing me as their dependent anymore, I got a MA license and changed my voter registration to MA. When I called AMCAS to ask them about my residency status, they said I should indicate MA residency.

Just as a general driving/tax/residency FYI...once you have been living in another state for 6 months as an independent person, you are supposed to get a new license, voter registration, license plates, etc. that reflect your current state of residency. So swim2md, if you've been living and working in PA for a year and a half, and are no longer being filed as your parents' dependent, you should probably change your license and file taxes as a PA resident. That's just my $.02.

I agree that I need to switch my residency to PA soon, but I purposely paid the extra tax and kept my residency in NJ for med school application purposes. Both NJ schools heavily favor NJ residents much more than PA schools favor PA residents. So for NJ schools it's simple since I'm technically NJ resident, and for PA schools I just tell them I live and work here. As soon as I'm done with this process, I'll be switching my residency to PA (assuming I get into a PA school :luck: ).
 
I think that's a good idea. :) Just be prepared that some schools where residency is an issue may ask you why you've been living in one place but filing taxes in another. :luck: to you!

dont' use copy and paste...use the "reply" button in the lower right corner of the latest list. add your name and then make sure you delete the "quote" brackets at the beginning and the end of the list

It is just a way for people like Erina, who have nothing better to do in their boring life, to brag about how many interviews they have.

Making a list is in no way info-oriented, which is what SDN should be about. :mad:

some people....jeeze....if you are bitter, write about it in your journal, don't take it out on other people. even though i don't have any interviews i like coming on here to see who does. and it IS informative...it is giving information isn't it??

i think he may have also been the one who lied about getting a couple interviews right away!

anyway, this list is for people to see which schools are sending out interview invites. it's not a bragging list. we're all really supportive of each other and are more than willing to pour on the congratulations when someone gets an interview. so, pittmedicine, looks like you're the minority vote on this one. but geez, why'd you have to single me out? i'm not the only one with interviews!
 
indy, i think i added all your interviews to the list i just posted...but check it to make sure. it's a good idea to try to reply to the most recent list. :)
