Labeling app for anatomy lab?

Hi all! I was wondering if any of you recommend an app for iPhone to take pictures of cadavers then label them for anatomy lab? Or recommend getting an iPad for that same aspect?

Anatomy lab was messy enough I personally didn't want cadaver juices anywhere near my devices. We were allowed to take photos when I went through my school, but I think you lose a lot of the spatial recognition and markers in photos you take yourself. My group tried it exactly once then abandoned it...wasn't worth it. Websites and programs like the Colorado and Minnesota anatomy pages were way more helpful than photos that are without context by the time you review them later on. There wouldn't have been time for us to do them in real time during lab...there were so many structures to see/learn in each session there would have been no way to label all the images with appropriate IDs and still get the dissections done.

Peabody dvm from wsu also has some great videos on youtube that walks you through the structures. If your school allows I know my classmates did it in various forms from ppt to some apps on apple. I tried once, but was way too time consuming for me.

My school does not allow photos of cadavers. It’s an honor code violation.

If you get an iPad and want to take it to the anatomy lab, gallon zip-loc bags are key.

I thought I would do this and quickly dropped the idea after a day or two. Ended up that one classmate would always make a big PowerPoint with pics and share it with everyone

My anatomy group would take short videos at the end of each lab, pointing out (and speaking aloud the name of) each structure that we had dissected. We found it very helpful

I often used pictures from the Colorado app and then would outline or circle things so many different structures were labeled at a time on Word or the Apple photos app. But it was very time consuming and in retrospect probably not the best use of my time.

Oh and I found the Minnesota videos and photos very helpful for dog anatomy, but not as helpful for large animal.

My school doesn’t allow photos or videos either.

To me, it’s much more worth it to just spend the time you would spend on labeling and studying off of pics in the actual lab itself. Working with the cadavers really helps things stick in a way pictures can’t. Also, take advantage of any TA sessions, resources, etc. your school may have. For instance, we have certain times that TAs are hanging out in lab and you can have them answer questions, do a review of a certain topic, or even just have them quiz you.

EDIT: we’re not allowed to take personal photos/videos, but the school does provide videos of cadavers the professors have made where they go through the area we’re dissecting/how to dissect that area. So it is a nice resource to have if your school offers something similar!
