So I calculated all my new grades in today, I have an upward trend from Spring of 2013 onwards (3.728 oGPA of 50.5 credits)

Overall GPA: 3.57
Science GPA: 3.34 (including pre-calc & calc 1)
BCP GPA (have yet to take physics 1 or 2): 3.26

I'm taking the DAT in late August. I have excellent extracurriculars: shadowed a maxillofacial surgeon, volunteered in the emergency department/and dental clinic, had a leadership position, a lot of volunteering in physical therapy clinics as well, and some community service. I have some research experience as well. Pretty solid LoRs as well.

If I apply the last week of August, what are my chances? My top school of choice is NYU. I would most likely only apply to NYU and Rutgers this cycle due to having no upper electives done yet :/

What do you think I need, at the bare minimum? And do you think a W in my first semester of gen. chem will hurt me? I got an A+ in Orgo II
bare minimum? no such thing exists. You study the best you can and take the test. Its not like you can tailor you studies based on what score you want.

With regards to a W, no one will care if a student had a few Ws here and there, just as long as its not a habit of picking them up every semester.

with regards to your overall chances, 3.3 science and 3.2 BCP is below average HOWEVER, you have a nice upward trend in the last 50 credits, that will improve your chances. My only suggestion now is to aim at more schools. These application cycles are pretty competitive, even students with stellar stats are applying to more than just 2. You should aim at 10+ schools. During the application cycle, you start taking upper level biology-courses just in-case you don't get in this cycle.

Just curious about why NYU is your top choice. Enlighten me.

I spoke to NYU College of Dentistry admissions office last week about DATs. They told me that the average scores of accepted students for cycle 2014 was 21 on most of the sections!!!

NYU told me its BEST to apply in June even if taking the DATs later

Did they give a reason? The application sits around until they get the DAT scores either way so I'm wondering what advantage June has over say July if one is taking the exam toward the end of July or in August.

She said once you submit your application in June it takes weeks for AADSAS to process it and send it to schools. NYU will receive application as early as July. With missing DAT score, the application is set aside. She said as soon as you take your DAT, email the picture of DAT results to the admission office and your application will go in for review. IF you wait to apply after taking dat, you are competing with more students and application is seen much later in the summer. This is how it was explained to me...

Oh yeah I knew that. I was thinking more along the lines of if you time your submission for a few weeks before you take the DAT so they get it right before you take your DAT you're on the same timeline as the example you gave anyway so it wouldn't really make a difference.

It's strange that they told you they accept unofficial DAT scores because when I called the office to ask about that last week, I was told that they don't. Maybe I'll ask again before my exam.

I live in NYC, and just have more of a liking towards NYU than Columbia, Stony, and Buffalo. Location and faculty seem really sweet, only downside would be tuition. 🙁

I think I heard that as well! Most likely will submit June 2nd 🙂 I'm a little nervous, I have no idea how to start the process for the application; is it relatively straight forward?

How much will it cost approximately to submit to three schools? (NYU, Rutgers, and Boston University)?

If my math is right, $431 AADSAS + $240 in supplemental fees.

Yeah, wow..
I'm really going to wait on my DAT, I'm not applying this cycle unless I have at least a 21 on each section.
