I was just wondering if I could get some advice on applying late. I know that it is a big disadvantage. I know that everyone, including myself would not recommend it. However, I have no choice for personal reasons. I was wondering if anyone could give me some names of some of the schools that have had reputations of late MCAT application acceptances? Has anyone had good experiences with certain schools applying late? Which schools dont care about late admissions, or have a good reputation of accepting late? Any help yould be so much appreciated. Thanks

At this point - I don't understand why you would PLAN to apply late. You have four months to get ready to be a super early applicant - and the benefits to applying early are HUGE.

I understand the disadvantage of applying late. You cannot understand the ircumstances of the next few months. I just cannot do it. That is why I want to know what schools will be best. If anyone could help me with that I would be very appreciative.

Look for non-rolling schools - ones that do all their interviews and then notify everyone at once. The only one I applied to is Yale, so I don't have a list, but I'm sure you can search here on SDN or others can add.

If it's absolutely unavoidable, go for the nonrolling schools, though those are usually the hard ones to get into anyway. I.e., Harvard, Penn, etc.

Off the top of my head, RFU, NYMC, and Drexel are non-rolling but interview pretty late into the season.

I totally understand as I was in a similar position. I was forced by multiple circumstances to take the august MCAT and I didn't have my undergrad paid off untill september to release my transcripts to AMCAS. I made a huge decision and it is the one I would recommend you make, though it is really hard to do so . . . apply the next year. Have everything ready to go June 1st and you'll have every advantage. Applying late you could spends tons of money only to 1) not get in anywhere or 2) get in somewhere that isn't as good as what you could have achieved had you had every advantage. I realized that I'd rather wait one year, get some more experience under my belt and know that whatever happened I had given the process my all, and that if I got accepted somewhere it was the best I was ever going to do. It was a tough choice, and I cried my heart out about it, but I think given the circumstances it was the best choice, this is the rest of your life that you are playing with.

What about taking the year off and applying super early the next go round?

If you have some serious circumstances in your life going on, it might be best to straighten those out before being completely consumed by med school.

Just a thought.

I would definitely NOT recommend waiting a year just so you can apply early. While it is a disadvantage to apply late, if you have decent numbers, don't worry about it--even nonrolling schools try to keep spots open for qualified late-appliers. There are also schools that, while not quite nonrolling, accept applicants at only a few times, such as Northwestern. Trust me--I applied on the deadline to pretty much every school on my list and I've been accepted to Northwestern!

And you probably fit the 1 in "a larger number" statistic to which your situation applies.

It's great that you are not destroying the dudes hopes, but at the same time you are giving a hell of alot of false hope. It is almost March...and the Penn adcoms are moving into their wrap up interview phase.

Keep in mind that schools that are technically not rolling only maintain that title b/c they do not announce any final decisions until a certain date and review everyone's application. But, the part of the process that involves determining who will get an interview and who will not is to an extent. If that kid turns in his app now the adcoms probably only review his application once...and if he is passed over then the story ends in "oh well...I guess I will have to wait for the next cycle."

I say that person should just apply early next cycle!

Unless I completely misunderstood the post, I thought that the OP is talking about applying late for the 2007 cycle, not this year. I don't think that applying now for 2006 matriculation is even possible, so if that's the discussion, then of course, wait and apply for 2007. However, if the OP is talking about applying late summer/early fall for 2007, I say go for it!
