Hey guys,

I'm thinking that I'd like to make the "switch" from predent to premed.
Trouble is that I'm actually the copresident of my school's dent club.
When it comes times for me to apply should I mention that I held that position?
Furthermore, should I mention any of my dental-oriented EC's? If the answer to that question varies from EC to EC, some things that I've done include shadowing dentists, driving down with my dent club to do some dental assisting at a free clinic in Tijuana, etc.

Any thoughts?

PS. I'm a rising sophomore so I've still got time to do more med-related EC's

I would mention them as long as you can clearly show that you want to go into medicine and not dentistry. Undoubtedly you would be asked "why not dentistry?" in your interviews.

If you end up getting other great ECs, no, I wouldn't mention it.

If you shadowed a dentist, it would make your argument for the switch a lot more meaty.

True. You can really give the adcom something to chew on.

Seriously, the adcom wants to know why you chose medicine and to show how you considered other careers and chose medicine after a mature review of other options is excellent.
