Hello,
I was accepted to the LECOM class of 2006 and wanted to chat with some of my future classmates.
If you're going, write in!

I'm not in the class of 2006 (I'm an MS-1 at LECOM) but I thought I would just write to say congrats! If you have any questions just ask!

:D

Hello,
How do you like living in Erie? I have so many questions! I received an acceptance letter, but that is the only information I have form LECOM. Where (besides their website) can I go to get more information or chat with students??
Thanks
Mike

PS what type of laptop id required??

Erie is an okay place to live. It is beautiful here in the summer, but it is a pain in the winter...it snowed here for two weeks straight at the beginning of January, I think. By the end of my time at LECOM I'm sure I'll be ready for a warmer climate. :D
About chatting with other students, I know some of my classmates are SDN members, and I have seen posts from other people who are planning on coming to LECOM every once in a while on SDN. I met several of my classmates through SDN.
About the laptops, I'm not really sure of the exact requirements. They will probably be sending you a packet soon with all kinds of forms you have to fill out, and with that they include the requirements for the laptops.
Hope that helped (now I have to go back to studying musculoskeletal <img border="0" title="" alt="[Eek!]" src="eek.gif" /> )

Thanks for your help. Good luck studying

is a four wheeled drive vehicle a necessity in Erie??

Hi!
I've also been accepted to class of 2006, and am really excited about attending in the fall  . Its finally hitting home that I'm going to med school after receiving a huge packet from LECOM yesterday about immunizations, laptop requirements, etc.

I had one question on the immunization form. To be honest, I have no idea where half my immunization records are, and I'm not quite sure what to do. I was thinking of just getting lots of blood drawn and get a all the titers performed, but I'm wondering if they will accept that. Most of the records that I am missing were infant shots, so not quite sure if I can get them repeated. Any thoughts?

Thanks!

Ami

Hi everyone. I was accepted and may be attending LECOM in August. As far as immunizations, I have no idea. I would suggest trying to contact your doctor's office from when you were an infant to see if they have the records.

About the laptop requirements, I just got the packet of info and this is what it says:

Intel Pentium Processor, 350 MHz speed or greater. Pentium II, III, or IV, Celerom or AMD processor

Minimum RAM (memory) of 64 Mb (megabytes)

Minimum 3Gb (gigabyte) Hard Drive

Color screen capable of 800 x600 resoltuion and a minimum of 1 Mb video memory

CD-ROM drive (DVD drive is not required)

Microsoft Windows 98, ME, 2000, or XP Pro or Home

10/100 Ethernet card or 100 fast ethernet card, a "10" card will not work.

An antivirus program with a current update subscriptions-No computer will be given access to our network without this program.

If you have any questions, let me know.
Anna

thank you for the info...does anyone have a particular model or brand that they recommend???

Honestly, I have no idea. I just retyped what was on the sheet. I'm not exactly computer savy.

Hi guys, I think I am going to LECOM also!!! I really like the fact that LECOM students score above average on the boards!! Hi anna, I was wondering if you were the same ANNA that asked me interview questions on interviewfeedback.com? This is Anthony, i heard that you liked the interview and the "new" school, thats good, I think I want to go there, but wearing a tie everyday, boy thats gonna suck, theres somedays now that I wear a tie for like 3 hours, and the MINUTE I leave the building, I yank the tie off! Ok, hope to hear from you guys, there atually was a LECOM 2006 thread started earlier, but i think it's on the 3rd or 4th page on the Osteo. link

Hi Anthony, yes this is the same Anna. I really liked LECOM and I have sent in my deposit, but low and behold, MSUCOM asked me to interview. So, I am interviewing on Friday. I am just going to interview and see how I like it.

Did you get in anywhere else? Are you definitely planning on LECOM? I agree with you that the dress code isn't that appealing, but I wouldn't let it be the deciding factor in choosing med schools.

has anyone heard about the weather?? i hear it gets very cold in erie....I wonder how my honda accord will fare in the snow

Hi everyone, about the weather: I went to the Erie Times newspaper and it said that the average snowfall up to mid February is like 56 inches or so. I know last year Erie received like 14 feet of snow, but that was an odd year i was told. I do not hink you have to have a 4x4 car , again not everyone could afford you. I couldnt, and I have a 89' Crown victoria, the old cop cars :) It runs great and i just put 200 pounds of sand bags in the trunk to help it stabilize for the winter, being that Im from detroit and it snows a lot here also. As for Anna, i interviewed at western COMP, and i should hear any day now from them, I do not want to live 2000 miles away when I can be a 3 hour car ride from home. talk to you guys later.

I'm a first year at LECOM and I'm from Louisiana so I can understand the questions about the weather. Yes, it's cold and it snows up here but my geo prizm and I are making it just fine. At first, I was afraid to drive in the snow so my classmates gave me rides to class but then I bought snow tires and I've been driving around ever since. They do a good job in keeping the main roads drivable so you all will be fine.

Oh and CONGRATULATIONS ON BEING ACCEPTED TO LECOM!!!!!!

Thanks,
That sure is good news...speaking of Erie, how is life outside of school?? Is there much of a social life in medical school? What do people do in their free time??

The first semester I had no social life but this semester I have been socializing. I'm no party animal but I have been going out to eat with my classmates after exams and going to movies just to hang. There are different intramural sport teams and the organizations on campus are always planning events such as parties and picnics.

Hi everyone, hoope your interview went well at MSU Anna. I graduated from Michigan state, so i know about the school a little. I found out that I just got into western U-COMP, but I think I will go to LECOM!!!
Just was wondering though, if current LECOm students can answer: Do LECOM grads really match at around 80% with their first choice? Do LECOM grads match into competitive fields. Like for instance, last year only 4 students form another DO school with a class of around 170 placed into Surgery, is that around the same for LECOM??
Are MS1 tests on Mondays for the first semester, or are they scattered around? Will the new building be done for the 2002 year, along with a cafeteria?
thanks!!

Does anyone know anything about 3rd and 4th year clerkships?? Can they be completed at non- LECOM affiliated hospitals, or must they be done in the erie area??

empacher: during the interview day, LECOM gives you a folder with their 43 or so affiliated hospitals. You have to complete the rotations at these places but you can complete your "electives" at any hospital. the 3rd year has 1 elective(6 weeks) and the 4th year has 2 electives(each for 6 weeks). Hope this helps you out. I am not a LECOM student but someone answered this for me when I had the same question around a few months ago :)

I noticed that LECOM has over 40 rotation sites&gt; Just wondering how a student can go to a different city? Does that rotation site provide housing? And how can people afford to rent in apartment by school when they might be 4 or so hours away in a different city?

Also, do MS1s this year have a spring break or ONLY MS2s don't???
Thanks

along thos elines, does anyone know where I can get an academic calendar? It would be nice to knwo when school starts and when we have off....

I was just going to post that same question Empacher. I'm going up to Erie next week during spring break to look at apartments and hopefully sign a lease, but I have no idea when orientation is or when classes start in order to have a move in date. I tried seearching at LECOM's website, but I haven't had any luck there. Maybe I'll just stop by LECOM as well, and see if I can get some answers.

Classes will probably start the first week of August. Orientation will be a few days before the semester begins.

No spring break for MS1/MS2. This semester ends mid-May, a week earlier than the previous year. This gives the 2nd years an extra week to study for the boards.
