I wouldn't post things to give others false hope. Med schools always rank waitlists, and it sure isn't based on the sheer basis of when one interviewed.

I was simply stating exactly what the admissions office said to me on the phone. I agree that med schools rank waitlists but for some reason, LECOM says they don't. Don't attack the messenger
 
Lecom Br is probably my 1st choice but at this point I'd be thrilled to go anywhere

As I mentioned before, we had lunch w/ a student on interview who was pulled off the waitlist over the summer and it was ranked.

Many schools accept students on a rolling basis, so when you interview does play a factor on your chances of getting admitted. Considering this, I don't think it would be unheard of to consider when you interviewed as factor when you're ranked on the waitlist. But I agree, I don't think it's the only factor.

I definately agree with you both... it makes sense to me that at some point we're ranked, just because the adcom's have better things to do than continually look at files once everyone has been interviewed.

Scpod, is there any validity to WHEN we interviewed playing a factor in how we're ranked?
 
Just received the letter stating that I was accepted. I interviewd about 3 weeks ago and got in. Not sure what I am going to do yet as I am still waiting on a few schools and trying to make some personal decisions about where to go to school. Good luck to everyone, I'm sure good news is on the horizon

Wow! Congrats to you mjbjhu! Goodness, I hope to make this post some time soon... are you waitlisted at the other schools or still waiting to hear back from them all together? Best of luck to you no matter where you decide to go... 👍

Thanks! I am waiting to hear from a few schools (wait lists) and waiting to make my decision since there are some family things that will partially determine where I go. I'm sure you will be able to make the same post soon--good luck😀
 
So I interviewed at Bradenton on the 12th, and at Erie on the 16th of April. Erie waitlisted me (I got the letter on the 25th). No word at all from Bradenton until today. They called me and asked me if I was still interested in admissions to Bradenton, saying that the committee just wanted to make sure. I said I absolutely was. They said they would have a decision for me soon.

Any idea if thats a good phone call? I think it would be bad move for them to call and ask me if I was still interested, and then just flat out reject me. So I doubt thats going to happen. I could still see them waitlisting me, but I dont know. It just seems kinda strange to me. It would make sense for them to only offer admissions to kids who are still interested (duh), but would they call me if they were just planning on waitlisting me anyways?

Any thoughts?
 
I would like to think that the phone is a good sign, at least that they might still be keeping you on the waiting list. It is getting late in the process and like you said they definitely don't want to waste time on applicants that have already decided that they don't want to go there. Did you send in a letter of intent after your interview? I'm guessing not, but this phone call kind of serves that purpose.

I think the call is a good sign as well... they advised people who are currently waitlisted that their apps wouldn't be reviewed again until the 21st of May. Considering they told you that you'd be hearing from them soon is hopefully great news-- especially since the 21st is a few weeks away.

Hey, and atleast you got a call... as in a similar post I just completed a few moments ago... *sigh* when I try to call I even get the receptionist's vm. What's up with that? Agh, I'm definately getting frustrated, and yes, very anxious.
 
Well apparently it was a pretty good sign... they just called me to tell me I'm accepted. Time to party.
 
Just wanted to let everyone know that I got into my top choice MD school so I will be withdrawing my acceptance to LECOM. Hopefully it will do someone here some good. i just called and they said that there are no updates as of right now. the committee is meeting this week and they will review some files and will contact people over the phone if they get accepted ...
i hope to get a call ...
 
yeah that's what i heard too. at least they're calling people now and not sending letters in the mail.

The email I received back in... April? anyways, said they would be reviewing files the week of the 21st-- I don't think the adcom meets until wed-thurs, so it may be kinda early in the week still.

As far as the number, I heard the # of people waitlisted is similar to last year-- about 100... and looking like a similar amount of people pulled from the waitlist-- about 40.

A little under half is not too bad... right? 😕 Aye yaye. I hope we get good news-- best to all of you waiting...
 
well that gives me some hope that they pulled up to 40 people off the waitlist last year! i just hope we're in the top half of the list somewhere! do you have any idea at what point during the summer they start ranking people on the list?

the email i got from ms. flaim in april said that apps would be reviewed the week of the 14th and we'd be notified of a decision during the week of the 21st. so here's to us hearing good news soon!!

When I inquired about ranking, I was told that it happens like this:
All of the alternates files are reviewed, and ~15 people pulled and called to see if they're still interested. Then 10-15 letters are sent... and then they wait to see how many seats are left. They repeat this process all the way until August. I'm not sure if at some point they just group the files in 10's just to keep things efficient... but this is what I was told. I guess we will have to see... 🙄

I recieved a call last week asking me if I was still interesting and if LECOM was my first choice, and then I recieved a matriculation packet for alternates. The email that I recieved stated:

We are going to send you the matriculation packet so you can get started in the event that you are accepted. We will let you know when a spot opens up, you will get a phone call from us if and when that happens.

I hope this is a good sign. I have my fingers crossed. Good luck to everyone.

Here is what happened to me, as a point of reference.

I interviewed on April 12th. I didn't hear anything from them until around April 30th or so, and they called me asking if I was still interested in attending. I said absolutely. She didn't say much else, except that the admissions committee would have a decision to me shortly.

I then received a phone call on May 3rd, and was told that I had been accepted, but there weren't any spots available yet. She said basically it meant that I was the first person on the waitlist, but they were waiting for a spot to open up before they would send me the official acceptance letter. So that was my post from a few weeks back saying that I had been accepted.

My official acceptance letter was dated May 9th, and I think I received it around May 12th. I sent in my deposit and it got there on Tuesday of this week (May 22nd). They sent me an email that day saying they had received it and another email saying they had mailed out the matriculation packet.

I hope this is as informative as possible. What I have learned is that they have definitely started pulling people off the waitlist. Also, phone calls from Bradenton asking if you're still interested are probably a good thing.

So i am not a patient human being and i called once more to check on my status... its still the same. once again they said they would call when i get accepted ( positive note..😉 ). is it a good idea to send another lOI or should i just learn to be patient and wait it out?

Many of the people in my class who got in off of the waitlist worked at it like it was a job almost. They continually sent in new information as it cam in. They got new LOR's, updated grades....anything to keep their name in the mind of the admissions office. It works because it shows how motivated you are to be a part of the school. You might be leary about getting to the point of annoying them, but don't worry-- they've delt with plenty of neurotic premeds already 🙂
 
LECOM Brandenton is a school that I'm VERY VERY interested in, so I was wondering if all of you who've been accepted or think you're most likely going to be accepted could tell me what your stats were....I'd appreciate the insight!

For what it's worth, noticed in the past few days that a couple students that were on the Class of 2011 facebook group had left for other schools. So looks like at least a couple spots are opening up.

Let us know when you hear something though!
