Thanks!! My son (5 y.o.) just walked in the office and saw your avitar! He is a big Mario fan so I had to show him who Dr. Mario is and I found this funny....

That is awesome. I'll have to watch it with sound when I get home! SDN is actually usually blocked here, but for some reason the blocking is down this weekend...

You know...I've been using "digitlnoize" for so many years for online logins and whatnot, that I can type it really fast, and remember it pretty well...

I chose it because about 10 years ago I had a band called Digital Noise Addiction. DigitalNoise is ALWAYS taken as a login, so I started using digitlnoize...

Anyways...sorry...just rambling...maybe I'll change it...

I used Quest, and I'm afraid for when that bill comes because apparently they had to send out to a special lab for the PCP and Marijuana. I don't even want to know how much this all will be. As it is, my physical was part of my 'deductible' so I already owe a crap load. We just have to remember this when we are physicians and on the ordering end, tests are expensive and insurance dosn't always cover everything.

Kate,
The lab in which I had my 10-panel done and 4 titers sent to (in Chicago) charged my insurance $1855 - BCBSIL agreed to pay less than half of it and I'm not responsible for anything. My old insurance wouldn't pay that much, I'm sure.
So, yeah it depends on what your insurance covers but the charges can be quite high. 🙁 Good luck with getting as much covered as possible!

Oh my! I didn't want to hear that! Luckilly I got my titers done at school, so that was only $75, but my school dosn't do drug testing. My insurance at that time had a huge deductible, so I'm pretty sure that I'm paying OOP for everything, less any 'adjustment' that they negotiated (crossing my fingers that it was a big adjustment).

Well, whatever it takes, right? I just got the email that Heather has all of my info, and I'm all set with the exception of my third HepB that I'll get this fall. YAY!!! I'm really getting excited now.

WOW! My friend who's in his first year @ LECOM-B right now said that he went to LabCorp to get his done and OOP it was $250.

So I just called the LabCorp in Tampa, FL and they said that out of pocket, a 10 panel drug screen is $265.

Labcorp can bite me. I am so done with them. I'm going to get my pcp to write me an outpatient order and get them done at a local hospital...they at least include the tricyclics in their 10 panel...

Do you think it'll be less at the local hospital? Seems like hospitals by tradition are overpriced on everything...

Yeah, if I just get the drug screen and don't see a doc it won't be very much at all...At least less than lab corp...

Pss, that will work then. I'd go that route, too, if I hadn't already taken the Labcorp plunge.

Soooo, this is getting exciting, isn't it?! 😀 I asked for a briefcase for Mother's Day, so no laughing at me when I come rollin' on in. I know it's a little nerdy, but I'll pretty much be living at school, M-F, 8-5 and my back just isn't a match for all those books.

I wish the booklist were coming out sooner, though, to give me time to shop good prices.

I cannot focus on this dumb gene therapy paper, or my final that's due tonight, or my final tomorrow. I'm just checked out!

I can't either and I have a whole month left, I have midterms this week!!! then I still have to go through finals, this is agony

Ok, Kate and Laura...

focus, focus, focus! (while slapping your foreheads) 😉

I'll slap your forehead, muchacha!!!! Do you want to come take these tests for me< huh? huh? do ya?

You want the truth...you can't handle the truth.......ahhhhhhhhhhh😱😱😱

I apologize for my previous post....I am currently doing physics which has been known to cause momentary episodes of extreme anger.....

Thank you...this has been a public service announcement

So...anyone wanna share a house...if we split it with another couple it'd be $1250 each!!! This is awesome!

http://sarasota.craigslist.org/apa/676167005.html

Wow, that's super fab! But seriously, 3 students could get together and pay $833/month. Not too shabby. 😎

Edit: The house is 5 bedrooms? Make that 4 students with one shared study room, rent only $625... yeah, not shabby at all.

Ha, do you really want to share a house with my husband, me and our three kids! Better yet, do you want to share a house with just the three kids (my husband and I would find another place)?

I can't forget the three cats! We got a kitten the other day.

 ... No apologies needed, but I'll take a raincheck on the forehead slaps... I'm sure I'll need them soon enough! 😀

Wait, I think digital has kids too! Maybe his plan was just the opposite-you and your honey stay with his brood while he gets another place. 😀

Hey, I got my take home final done, now I just have 3.5 pages of a paper on Gene Therapy to write. Oh yeah, and I didn't study at all for my Anatomy final tomorrow. Oh well. I guess I'm just conceding to get a B on that one. Kind of sucks because I have an 85% right now (85+ is an A), but I don't think that I can get an 85 on the final which is 1/2 cum and 1/2 the last sectons material because I haven't even looked at that stuff since we were tested on it.

Then there is my music final on Thurs, and then the Biochem. UGH! I can't wait until this semester is over.

I thought he did also, boy would that make for a fun household! Anyone else want to join us?

Woo hoo! My kids would love this btw... not too sure if the adults would be able to hack it. 😉 And yes, a pool is a necessity... My daughter wants us to sell our house to move into an apartment. Why? Because they have pools. 🙄

Kate, your kitten is adorable! I want one now!😉

You should see my arms, ankles and neck. I look like I have been attacked by... well a kitten. I'm covered in tiny little scratches. They're cute, but I'll be glad when this biting and velcro claw stage is over.

Just one daughter...Although another couple + 1 kid probably wouldn't be noticed in that house. 😱😀

I call the master bedroom; oh, wait, I'm not in yet...

impressive; especially if your cat also does the thing w/only front paws on the treadmill

yeah he does, but not because he is especially talented, just because he is not agile enough to keep up

....and a bit of a scaredy cat too

I'm not quite sure where this "survey" thing came from because I certainly never saw it.... but appaently the student body elected to keep the same yearly rate for insurance and pay more out-of-pocket when you use it. It doesn't affect me because I rarely go to the doctor. I have to be near death to go see one, and even then I generally have to be dragged kicking and screaming. For those of you who make frequent visits, however, I wanted to make sure that you get to look at the new changes in case you want to investigate other opportunities. Here's the email:

Dear LECOM Students:

The LECOM Administration presented the option to the Student Government Association to maintain the current benefits in the LECOM Student Health Insurance Plan with an increase in the yearly rate or to maintain the current yearly rate and change the benefits/deductibles to the plan. The SGA surveyed the students and by a vote of 2 to 1, the students wanted to maintain the current yearly rate although it will change the policy copays and deductibles.

The following changes will be made to the LECOM Student Health Insurance Policy in order to maintain the current yearly rates for the plan:

Office visits copay from $10.00/Primary $10/Specialist will be increased to $20.00/Primary $40/Specialist

Add $250/$500 in-network deductible (currently everything is covered at 100%) and $500/$1,000 out-of-network deductible, 8/20 co-insurance to a maximum of $1,500/$3,000 (currently $250/$500 - 80/20 out of network, 80/20 co-insurance to a maximum of $1,500/$3,000)

Current prescription drug copay from $5 generic copayment /$20 brand copayment Mandatory Generic to $10 generic copayment /$15 formulary brand copayment/$40 copayment brand by choice non-formulary, mandatory generic. These are for a 31-day supply at the retail level. Mail order copayments double the retail copayments for a 90-day supply.

THESE CHANGES WILL TAKE PLACE ON AUGUST 1, 2008 FOR ALL MEDICAL STUDENTS IN ERIE AND FLORIDA, AND PHARMACY STUDENTS IN FLORIDA.

THESE CHANGES WILL TAKE PLACE ON OCTOBER 1 FOR ALL ERIE PHARMACY STUDENTS.

THESE CHANGES HAVE BEEN PRE-APPROVED BY HIGHMARK IN ORDER TO KEEP THE RATES AT THE CURRENT AMOUNT....

Thanks scpod. That's really helpful. That's pretty much the plan I have now...pretty much the same price too...we'll probably wind up on my wife's insurance anyways, once she gets a job...

Anyone know any dentists in Bradenton 😉? I've got a big list, but we want connections! 😀

I was going to ask along the same lines if LECOM has dental insurance also or just medical? We also are looking for a great dentist, as well as a great pediatrician, internist, endocrineologist, peds allergist, ob/gyn, etc. Is there some sort of referral program at the school for all of us that are new to the area?

ALL REQUIREMENTS HAVE BEEN MET

That's what my degree audit says! Finally.. I can officially go to LECOM-B!

Anybody see Syeesha from American Idol in Bradenton? Just noticed she grew up there while watching her return home on AI.

Hi scpod,

Do you know how much is the health insurance premium for a student? The coverage that will go into effect in August doesn't sound too bad actually. I might get the insurance offered by the school. I need to buy health insurance for me and my wife. I looked at a very very high deductible insurance for $140 /month for both of us. But it has a 10K deductible. If our school insurance plan is pretty cheap, then I will get that and for my wife, I will buy a different plan.

Also, anyone looking to get Florida kidcare for their kids? I wanna apply to the kidcare program but I think you need a Florida address before you can apply.

I have missed coming to this forum.

Take care all.

For anyone interested in Family coverage, I talked to financial aid and they said that coverage (for family) would be $644/month. Sorry, don't know what individual or individual + spouse will be, but he said it will come out to us when they confirm their renewal.

For you: $1008 for six months.
For your spouse: $1428 for six months.

Kidcare from the state of FL for the kids is really, really cheap.

For Kidcare don't you have to meet some low income requirement?

Hey guys...I have some questions about the matriculation packet. 😕

*For the drug screen, do we go to our primary care physician and ask to get it done, or do we just have to go to LabCorp and pay out of pocket??? I have an HMO with Aetna right now, but I don't know if it's covered.

*On one of the required things it says "Proof of Health Insurance". Do we have to provide proof of the health insurance that we currently have, or is that for the health insurance we're required to get while we're at LECOM (Blue Cross or whatever)????
