LECOM-Bradenton Discussion Thread 2010-2011

I know I can look this up... But maybe someone will know what their policy is on getting accepted. How much is the deposit and how many weeks do you have to decide before they withdraw the acceptance? I have a feeling that if I get in, it will be way before my state schools (Tx) have a chance to interview and accept, so I'm thinking I'll be spending a few thousand dollars on deposits here and there... Eeeekkk! Luckily Texas doesn't have a deposit policy.

i think the time line to accept is in the CIB. i would imagine that the deposits are too. i know you said you wanted someone to answer this that already knew, sorry noshie! haha.

Last year it was 2 weeks from date of acceptance and $1500. My decision would have been December 17th-ish.

According to the CIB, if you are accepted between October 1st and January 31st you will have 30 days to submit the deposit this year. They will let us know all about their policies at the interview.

Two weeks!!! Wow. I can't even find a cute pair of shoes in two weeks... 😛 I guess if they wait until October to give us the verdict, then I could be in a better position to possibly get an in state acceptance by November. I just hope they don’t do something crazy like accept us the week after we interview. Though, that would be a pretty big weight off of my shoulders, knowing that no matter what I am in somewhere... I think that I just realized that this interview is coming up quick and I’m freaking out right now. Trying to play out all of the possibilities…

LECOM has, in the past, been quick to give you a decision. In my case, I interviewed before all my recommendation letters were in. The day after they were in, I got the call saying I was accepted. Of course, that depends on when the admissions committee meets... but waiting more than a week for a decision would be a change from the last couple of years.

I just looked at the CIB and things have definitely changed for LECOM-B:
• Those accepted October 1 through January 31 will have 30 days
• Those accepted February 1 through April 30 will have 14 days
• Those accepted after May 1 may be asked for an immediate deposit
• Earliest acceptance date: 8-2-2010
• Latest acceptance date: 7-25-2011; Until class is filled
• Maximum time for applicant to accept offer: 30 days
• Requests for deferred entrance considered: No
I'm not sure what they do if you're accepted before October 1st...

It still lists the deposit as $1500, and it's non-refundable. It sucks, but that's the med school admissions game these days. Good luck.

Ya, they also told us our decision 5 days after we interviewed. It was crazy fast. I'm not sure they are going to wait until October to give the acceptance so I'd plan on having extra money put away I guess. I'm praying that I get an acceptance from one of my favorites early so I can pick and choose after that but to be completely honest, I'm going to put down the deposit for the first one regardless. I'll figure out the money issue of it later on. After one acceptance I can relax and not be such a basketcase lol

Mine too. Also, its not really the "med school admissions game" these days, its the DO admissions game. Most MDs have significantly lower deposits. The DO deposits are the most frustrating thing for me.

just got a call from LECOM - B for an interview. Sept 10th 🙂

my letters arent in yet tho

congrats! when were you complete, or when did you go "under review"?

just finished my secondary apps and submitted to both LECOMs today....now another wait begins.
Good Luck to all who got interview invites so far

Just submitted my secondary today! Not sure if my 24 mcat will land me an interview though.. fingers crossed:xf:

anyone know how long it takes them to update the checklist for your LORs? I sent my letters in last week and i was wondering how long it usually takes them to process.

Sent mine via Interfolio on 7/8, they were processed on the Checklist on 7/19

interview invite 09/08, under review since 07/6
:highfive:

It looks that main cretria for interview invite is MCAT score. I am seeing that GPA as low as 3 but MCAT more than 27 are being invited.

That makes some sense for lecom-b since they are only pbl. Pbl is very problem solving heavy and in my experience the mcat was little more than a problem solving test.

Hi all:

I was just wondering about the ability to choose an interview date. From the turn around on secondary app acceptance to invite date it sounds like, if I did get invited, I would get that around the end of the month. With the last batch of interviews being 9/8-9/13 today I suspect mine would be closer to the beginning of October. 🙁 My fiance is pregnant with our first daughter and due October 1st. LOL So, do they only give you two dates and say too bad if you can't make it?

Thanks for the advice and kudos for posting the turn around dates.

So, do they only give you two dates and say too bad if you can't make it?

Unless they've changed how they do things since my application season 2 years ago, they'll call with a specific suggested date, but if that won't work for you, they'll go through the other available dates until one fits your schedule. They're used to dealing with people in school or working, who often have other interviews scheduled, so conflicts are common. They interview until March/April (whenever the class fills up), so you've got time, but remember the usual rolling admissions advice holds: The earlier you interview, the better your chances.

I have a 33S and they didn't call me today. =(

Edit: Looking at turnaround time, I may have a week or two to wait. So your theory may still work out. However, their average mcat is aruond 26 correct?

Correct, the lady at admissions told me a 26 is their average. So I thought with a 3.96 gpa and a 24P mcat, I might be okay.. but now I'm beginning to doubt. It's still early though.. I just went under review this Tuesday. I just don't have high hopes of getting an interview since their mcat seems to be so high for who they are picking. Pet of the week, you'll be fine! 🙂

Thanks for the reply Altruist.

Pet of the week 33S is impressive and Stucka21 a 3.96gpa is impressive as well. I'm sure you both will be fine.

I'm sure you will be fine. They have a turnaround of about 2 weeks before you will get the invite.

I have a low gpa to balance it out though (3.33, apparently I love 3's 🙂. I wish I had a 3.96. 🙂 I think we both have a decent shot being early applicants. I have a friend who got in LECOM-B a few years ago with a 3.6/24, so you should be fine.

are there people interviewing on Aug 30th? I don't think I've seen anyone else mention that date.

Me! And I think BigBoosting, if I remember correctly from the Interview Invite thread.

traitorman, sedaniel...have you booked a hotel yet? Where are you staying? I'm driving down from Georgia. Haven't booked a hotel yet...should probably do that. We should do a dinner or something the night before like the other group.

I had very similar stats, high MCAT but GPA on the low side and it worked out for me in the end. All in all I think they do a decent job of taking various parts of the applicant into consideration. My class had a good range of students.... straight out of undergrad, handful with masters, 1 or 2 PhD's, several 2nd career slightly older non-trads, high MCAT, avg/low MCAT, etc...

But good luck to all!

Haven't booked a hotel yet. I think I'm flying right into Sarasota so depending on what time I get in we should def go for dinner. I'll need a distraction so I'm not nervous haha.

Does anyone know why lecom decided to do away with essays in the supplemental application?

Congratulations to everyone with interviews so far! I can't wait to read about your experiences there. =)

Yo everyone...would anyone who has an interview on 9/13 like to meet up the night prior to the interview??

If I were adcom, I'd get rid of them. They end up being redundant more often than not, and most people just change the school name on their "why xcom?" essay and send the same one to each school. So secondaries are a waste of time really. Just my opinion though.

This thread is getting pretty big already! I'm a second year here, so hopefully I can answer some questions along the way. I did want to offer though, my wife and I have an extra bedroom and live pretty close to school and would be willing to host people for interviews. We did this once last year and it was fun. If you are interested just send me a PM! I know I wish I had the option when I came.

waste of time, but generate many hundreds of thousands of dollars in fees every year.

dinner def sounds like a great idea! i kno no matter how much I prepare, I'm gonna be feelin pretty anxious about the interview. i havnt booked a hotel yet either. prolly gonna have everything set on Wed (i hear flights are cheaper when you book on a Wed).

@ Devlynn: with the weather being hot in Florida, I should probably still wear a suit to the interview right?

Seeing people come through last year, the black suit was definitely the most popular. I would wear a suit, but don't think you have to stick to black!

Definitely a suit. Only time you'll be outside is walking in and out of building. Plus they keep the inside A/C a touch on the cool side.

will do! i was thinkin about switching up the color, but I might have to stick with classic black. maybe ill go colorful with the shirt and tie

Yeah I'll probably book a hotel later this week. Think we'll have group interviews like the Erie campus? For some reason I'd be even more nervous about a group interview

I'd agree with Devlyyn that black was the most popular suit color for interviews, but then again it's the most popular interview color at most schools. (I remember looking around at another school's interview and realizing all of us guys were dressed for a funeral.) Don't be afraid to wear a different color, if that other color makes you feel confident. With a black suit, a colorful shirt/tie will help make it a little more interesting. Go with what makes you feel good.

I heard Erie started doing that last year, but so far as I know Bradenton stuck with individual interviews. The admissions departments are independent of one another, so Bradenton doesn't have to change if they don't want to. Hopefully, the first few people who go through interviews will post whether things have changed, and if I hear anything, I'll let you know.

Yeah I'm definitely wearing a suit but it is going to be a skirt suit for me. Even though you guys said the AC is set low in there, I'd rather be too cold than too hot lol.

i know wut u mean. Everyone on the other thread are saying the group interviews are relaxed and a lot more comfortable but I feel like I'd have to give kick azz answers or else id risk lookin bad in front of the other interviewees and possibly killing my chances

haha that must have looked so depressing. def will do the colorful shirt/tie

At the Erie interview 7/16, there was one guy in a green/olive shirt. I wore a purple shirt. EVERYONE else was in a white or blue shirt (I personally detest the white shirt/red tie combo that so many use). If I get in, I'll say it's because I stood out in a positive and vice versa.

So my status just changed to: Your application has been processed and will be sent to the Admissions Committee for further review. You will be notified as soon as a decision has been made.

For those of you with interviews, if I'm understanding your posts correctly, it took an average of two weeks from processed status to interview invite?

Sorry if my question is annoying. I really, really want an interview from this school...
