So if I don't have LOR from a DO, I shouldn't apply to LECOM?

I interviewed with some people who still didn't have a DO letter yet (this was last cycle) but they put the file on hold "pending DO letter." So you're not immediately screened out (as of last year.)
The admissions department was great down there, shoot them an email or call them about it. They were really helpful to me.
I've also "heard" that they can provide you with a DO letter (yeah, sounds weird to me too)
EDIT: Wow, I responded in 3 minutes...I need to get a summer job.
really? can anyone else comment on this?
All I can add is that I applied to LECOM without a DO letter and wasn't screened out for not having one. I was rejected but it didn't state anything about not having a DO letter.

Zoner,
Yes, you do need a DO letter. They will interview you without one, but they won't accept you without one. They will put your file on hold and tell you to get a DO letter. If you look carefully in the interview email, they state that you need a DO letter of recommendation. I would plan to get one ASAP.
I am shadowing three DO next week, but I don't think I am going to get to know them well enough during that time to get a LOR. Should I still ask anyways?

The thing is, I already have a really GREAT rec from a MD whom I have known for several years. I just don't see why a letter from a DO whom I hardly know will be better than a letter form MD that I have known for some years. Just doesn't make sense and its kinda stupid imo.
Agreed. They just want to know that you've seen osteopathic medicine. Whatever, though....just play the game and give them their damn letter!

Definitely ask. They probably know you need a letter and are expecting you to ask. They've been there. What's the worst that can happen? A no?
They might even bring the topic up themselves.
so you think it will be ok to give them just eh letter as long as its from a DO?
Also, for schools like Western, where it says that it only wants two LOR, can I give them more?
Yeah, check mark requirements are a bummer.
But
I haven't shadowed any DO, but my primary care doc is a DO. Is it legit to get your doc to write you one without any shadow experience, but who at least has seen you a number of times?
It's the same way. Dr. Ron that I mentioned is from LECOM-B.I know LECOM Erie will give you the opportunity to sit a talk with a DO for a few minutes prior to interviewing who will then write you a letter. I don't know if the same is true of Bradenton.
