LECOM-Erie Discussion thread 2007-2008

So I am considering sending in an application to this school (I know I'm late but whatever.)

It looks like they require certain forms for LOR? Do you think I would be okay just having the letters I already have forwarded or will it hurt me that I didn't have my letter writers use these forms?

I had my people send the same LOR that they did for every other school, and it worked out fine. I think it is optional. Good Luck!

Is everyone who was accepted planning to attend or waiting on other schools?

I am putting down the deposit, however things could change. I still have schools that I am waiting to hear from that were my top picks when I first applied. My SO is also applying to law school/moving with me if doesn't get in and there are no law schools there. Also, not an ideal place to find a job either. So, if I get into a place that would be a better fit, I will not attend. However, things will be up in the air for awhile!

Do they accept LOR from M.D. in lie of D.O.?

Interesting, I received my interview invite on Friday. But because I'm on the west coast I didn't have a chance to call them and confirm. And they say I need to call and confirm within 2 weeks of the date of the letter which is December 13th. I think its kind of ridiculous that it took 7 days to get a letter, leaving me within even less time to confirm. Do you think they are open on Christmas eve? I'd like to call them and confirm then.

^^probably not.. maybe send an email if your two weeks is up before the 26th (I can't feel bothered to count)

OK, I am interviewing at both LECOMs on the 16th and 18th in January.. I was just searching through the site and it says you need for Organic Chem: Organic Chemistry: A minimum of eight semester hours, including two semester hours of laboratory work.

I only took the lab for Orgo 1, and not Orgo 2.. which was one semester hour..

I am already graduated from college.. am I in huge trouble here??

Lets say, taking classes next sem. is NOT an option, as I will be out of the country.

Well it sounds then like you better just go to CCOM instead. 😉 Honestly, I'm not sure how that would work. So do you have a total of 7 credit hours? It's probably best to ask the schools directly but maybe someone here has experience with this.

I would think that the schools would be pretty strict about this requirement usless it was a school that allowed Biochem in the place of OrgII. (I don't think LECOM is one of those schools though.) You could call the school and I would also start looking for something online or some other alternative. Maybe summer school but I'm not exactly sure when all the credits need to be done by in order to matriculate in the fall.

thanks. i will call them tomorrow. i am FREAKING out right now.

wait. i have 9 credit hours in organic.. but only 1 is lab.. does that change anything??

Well whatever you need to take you still have plenty of time to do so. Dont freak out yet. 😉

well id only have summer semester.. because you cant do online with a lab.. and id have to make sure it didn't run into the beginning of the semester.. i really am freaking out.. this sucks. how could i not have noticed that before?!

What about this winter semester?

Edit: sorry, read first post too fast.

Not sure if 9 vs 7 hrs would make a difference or not. You'll probably get the best answer from the school. Different schools may have different policies so I would call all of them. I only had 7 hrs of physics but two labs. All but one school was OK with that.

yeah, i will call in the morning.. it is just hard to wait until then.

ha. my life is a JOKE. no schools around me are even OFFERING the class over the summer.

my school isn't even offering it the spring/winter semester. wtf. i think they stopped offering the class, it isn't even listed anymore.

what do i tell the offices? how can i get them to consider me without the class?

Explain your situation to the schools. If they offered you interviews they might make exceptions for you.

Thanks for your PM DrA 🙂

I will let everyone know what happens with the phone calls tomorrow.

I believe I have 10 orgo credits with one 2 credit lab that was taken with orgo 2 and its fine for bradenton!

Sometimes you can just finish it before you matriculate. You may have to move for it, unfortunately.

Im just starting a thread for those who have been waitlisted at LECOM-Erie. I feel like I'm the only one that has been waitlisted there so far but I'm sure I'm not the only one. We can use this thread as a support for the next 6 months.

If you are really up the creek UNE has an online Organic chem 1 & 2. Both classes offer the lab. While this may not be the cheapest option, you can at least do it in your slippers at home. Another option may be to look at any local community colleges to complete this one last requirement.

distance.une.edu

Best of luck

I called this morning and she said that if I email her something that says I have fulfilled my Chemistry requirement at my school then they will usually accept that.. now.. how to go about doing that...

Crap, all those EC's and you're still waitlisted? I'm not feeling too good about my chances for getting in after my interview on Feb 1st now. I'm still hoping that I have a chance because that's alot of money to spend on airline tickets.

You haven't even had your interview yet and your already pessimistic lol. Don't go in with such a negative frame of mind. I hear LECOM asks the same 10 questions in every interview, just be familiar with them and you will do fine.

SC did you ask them your rank on the wait-list?

I did not ask amy what my rank was on the list. I think I'll call her up this week and ask her. I feel like I'm near the top but I heard that they reevaluate the waitlisters every few months and your position can change. I'm retaking my orgoI class because I got a c- I think that might be my problem so I'm pretty confident I'll hear something by June. The wait is what sucks the most. oh and dont go by my experience at LECOM. I have probably the worst luck of anyone this application cycle.

^^ thanks!! I guess.. what is easiest to get a shuttle to and from the morning of interview and to from the hotel from the airport.

and what about lecom e?? 😀 thanks everyone.

also.. is there a beach nearby lecom b?? cause id love to check it out on the day before the interview or something!

I stayed at the Hampton Inn in Ellenton. It is located near the exit before the lakewood ranch exit where lecom-b is located. I highly recommend it. They give you free breakfast, have free internet, and the rooms were very nice. Also, they will drive you to lecom-b if you would like. I forget if there was a fee for this, but I want to say no? As for transportation from the airport to the hotel, I rented a car with Hertz. I recommend doing this if you are ok with driving yourself places. The tampa airport is basically a straight shot down I-75 with no real turns. This way you can look around the area more. Oh, and check out Siesta Key. It was voted travel channel's second best beach in Florida and is quite nice.

As for lecom-e, I stayed at the Residence Inn by Marriott. This hotel was fairly adequate. I don't know if they had a shuttle though because I am from Pittsburgh so I drove my own car.

Hope this all helps and good luck.

thanks.. the Hapmton in was the one I was leaning towards..

holiday inn or comfort inn by splash lagoon would be your best bet for lecom-e. the lecom rates are especially nice. plus, you can visit splash lagoon to pump yourself up pre-interview or to wind down post-interview! 🙂

splash lagoon sounds neat! i think i will pick one of those two places especially because I will be arriving a day early.. Im flying out of Florida on the 16th and my interview isn't until the 18th... im booking them both tomorrow.. 😀 so is the splash lagoon attached to those places? or do i go somewhere else for that?

both are connected to splash lagoon and you have a shorter/longer walk (in an enclosed walkway) depending on which one you decide to stay in.

oh, and the breakfast served at either hotel gets a 👍 from me!

just keep them posted on new grades, activities, etc.

hang in there! 🙂

So, what exactly is the dress code at LECOM-Erie? I looked on their website, and couldn't find anything, just the dress requirements for OMM Labs.

OMM days:
men - shorts, t-shirt
women - shorts, t-shirt, sports bra
both (optional)- track pants and hoodie (esp. right now, it's frickin' freezin up here)

outside OMM:
men - shirt, tie, slacks
women - anything semi-professional, but you women get away with a lot.

I think Kate was wondering about the general dress code.

The normal dress code is much more relaxed for girls. You can wear dress pants, skirts, or dresses and really any kind of top that isn't too casual. People wear button down shirts, polo shirts, or even just a t-shirt sometimes (not a graphic one but just a plain one). Just stuff that looks nice. And you have to wear pantyhose with open toed shoes. But I've never heard of anyone getting in trouble as long as they are wearing close toed shoes.

Ok, thanks. I'm not too sure about this, but I'm going to go for the interview and see how it feels there.

haha I think of my great grandma when I hear the word "slacks."

Anybody got their matriculation packet yet? ... I'm still waiting. But, I did get a deposit confirmation letter, so I am not too worried.

I haven't gotten my matriculation packet yet either. Still waiting.

It may sound annoying, but it's really not so bad. I'm pretty sure all of my guy friends take off their ties without untying them and hang them up for next time. And girls... we get off easy 😉
