DrMaryC, which program were you accepted into (LDP,PBL or ISP)? Another of LECOM's strong points is its three academic tracts. Please correct me if I'm wrong, but I think we are one of only two medical schools in the nation that offers three separate academic tracts.
I think DOtobe stated well when he pointed out that one must be happy in his/her environment when undertaking such a challanging task as medical school. God knows I wondered if I would ever get used to the cold temps and the small town atmosphere of Erie - especially this week when temps just barely made it into the upper 50's. However, all that aside; I realized that being in a larger city might have been too much of a distraction (for me). Actually, what's really cool about Erie is that it sits within a triangle of three big American cities, none of which is more than two hours away. Then there's Toronto (approx. 3 hours north); an entirely different experience all together.
All-in-all, I'm finding that Erie is exactly what I make of it. As for LECOM, let's just say that I'm glad that I didn't choose to attend my other option. So what if we have just one building? Who cares that we have a dress code that we are required to observe or even that we have a mandatory attendance policy? Guess what? In four years (correction, three years) we'll be physicians and perhaps work at only ONE hospital where we may be required to DRESS professionally and I'm sure that attendance, at work, will NOT be OPTIONAL.
In the end you should go where you feel that you can be most productive. However, bear in mind that no matter where you go, even if you stayed home, you will find that no school is perfect and no city is truly ideal. Its all about your willingness, or ability, to adapt.
Having said all that, please excuse my rambling.
