Hi there,
Congratulations to the class of 2006. I have to decide, however, if LECOM is for me...I've gotten a late acceptance, and am already accepted at UHS. Any input is welcome!

Mary,

I too turned down an acceptance at LECOM. You must go where you feel you fit. I didn't even have another acceptance, just waitlists, but I am willing to wait.

WUAS,
I was wondering what you had decided! Even though I go to LECOM, I'm sure you will be happier with turning down your acceptance here and going somewhere else. You would have been miserable if you had gone to a place you didn't really want to go. And medical school is stressful enough, so who wants the added stress of being unhappy?
Good luck! :)

Thanks guys...
I'm taking this decision very seriously. I know it's kind of a delicate task to voice opinions in a public online forum. I hear you WUAS. I'll keep you in my thoughts that you get your acceptance! Hang In!
I'm a little put off by some things....I shouldn't be afraid of saying what, since I'll be paying big bucks to them...but I really have mixed feelings and hope to get them all sorted out. :)

Dear Lecom students,

Now's your chance to say why you love your school!

Grades are by straight percentage. No curves which means no competition among classmates for high grades.

LECOM has the lowest private DO school tuition. Housing is not expensive in the area.

New facilities - I've heard more study rooms and a bigger library.

The faculty, overall, are very helpful! They are definitely there to help you understand the material if you need the extra help.

There is no requirement for students to be in Erie during the bulk of their rotations. The core rotations have to be done at a LECOM affiliated site. Check out the list on the website.

Thanks Jean, your input is very much appreciated! Take care and best of luck to you! :)

DrMaryC, which program were you accepted into (LDP,PBL or ISP)? Another of LECOM's strong points is its three academic tracts. Please correct me if I'm wrong, but I think we are one of only two medical schools in the nation that offers three separate academic tracts.
I think DOtobe stated well when he pointed out that one must be happy in his/her environment when undertaking such a challanging task as medical school. God knows I wondered if I would ever get used to the cold temps and the small town atmosphere of Erie - especially this week when temps just barely made it into the upper 50's. However, all that aside; I realized that being in a larger city might have been too much of a distraction (for me). Actually, what's really cool about Erie is that it sits within a triangle of three big American cities, none of which is more than two hours away. Then there's Toronto (approx. 3 hours north); an entirely different experience all together.
All-in-all, I'm finding that Erie is exactly what I make of it. As for LECOM, let's just say that I'm glad that I didn't choose to attend my other option. So what if we have just one building? Who cares that we have a dress code that we are required to observe or even that we have a mandatory attendance policy? Guess what? In four years (correction, three years) we'll be physicians and perhaps work at only ONE hospital where we may be required to DRESS professionally and I'm sure that attendance, at work, will NOT be OPTIONAL.
In the end you should go where you feel that you can be most productive. However, bear in mind that no matter where you go, even if you stayed home, you will find that no school is perfect and no city is truly ideal. Its all about your willingness, or ability, to adapt.
Having said all that, please excuse my rambling.

Well said my friend.

So, DrMaryC, have you decided if you are going to go to LECOM or not? We just finished for the semester, and I am ecstatic! It's so nice to be able to just let my brain rot for a little while. I like LECOM, but no matter what school you go to, you get sick of it after a while...
And just to clarify, I am a female... :D

Dear DOtobe,
Congrats on being done! You must feel great. I have decided to go to UHS. It was a decision that was rather difficult to make...my family is in Erie and my boyfriend is here in Cleveland. UHS seemed a better fit for me, and besides...I won't have the distractions of the family/boyfriend being WAY out there in Missouri!

Thanks everyone for responding, and I wish you the best of luck!
M. :)

Hi!

Does anyone know when LECOM's 2002 whitecoat ceremony will be? My boyfriend is in the 2006 Class at LECOM, and I am at another school, and we are hoping that our ceremonies do not conflict. Or the start of classes/orientation?

Thanks! Mylaina

Mylaina,
I replied to your PM and answered the question about the white coat ceremony for you :D

As for the first day of classes, they are the first week of August. (Actually I think it is August 1  ) So orientation will probably start two days before that, so at the end of July <img border="0" alt="[Wowie]" title="" src="graemlins/wowie.gif" />

Oh thank you! :) I can never rely on my boyfriend to know (or relay information if he knows) to me. haha. Thanks again!
