I am worried that I may not get a high grade in my subI because of the subjective nature of the grade. Do people get interviews without a sub-I?

I think it's better to do a subI and not get honors then to not do one at all. It also can help for letters.

Many people interview without subIs. Only the first few months of fourth year go on the transcript that get sent out to programs, so if you do it after, or your grade doesn't get reported then in time then it doesnt get seen. I actually honored mine but did it too late so basically a useless honors. Did not affect my interviews. a pass in subI might have though.

I think a subI is pretty much expected for internal medicine, peds and general surgery. Perhaps you could get away without one for some specialties (I mean, do ER and anesthesiology have "sub I's" per se?). I don't think you should avoid doing a subI because of fear of not getting honors...just go for it.

That's ok, I interviewed at a program that i did an away sub i at, and I still haven't seen my evaluation yet. I guess it was good, but the truth of the matter is that they knew what type of students were on the floor even before they finished the rotation. the good, the bad and the ugly. Perception that you are a hardworking person will carry you much further than 5's and 4's on an evaluation form or A. Conversely, if they know you are a slacker, no best friend's resident evaluation will save you.
