Unfortunately, having B1 to attend interviews doesn't guarantee getting F1 to attend school!

after you finish your 2nd BDS and most important is you should get an eligibility letter form Joint commission, so after 2nd BDS get a letter from the dean and apply for part 1 ....for more details log into.. www.ada.org

Elto,

I can apply as many times as I want, with no time restrictions. But it may depend on what that dude wrote in my file.

The good part is that I still have some time before the program begins in April. Hopefully its gonna be just a "headache"

Samyred,

Charming the officer!....hum, good idea...it's time to get some Botox and implants!

I'll keep you posted.

Hi Monreal,
I am sorry for what happened..that is jus terrible!
One of my friends from India had the same prb but she was joining undergrad(and this is a long time back prior to 9/11) . She was rejected first time..but she got a letter from the university stating that she had an amazing score and great potential and that they really wanted her to study at their university...I dont remember if the letter was sent directly to the consulate or to her...but u might try that way..just a suggestion. She got the student visa the second time.
Good luck!👍👍

would u recommend doing bds in india or is it a bad idea.

it depends on various factors...i can't simply suggest somebody like that...unless i know where they want to practice dentistry eventually , and the nationality or actual place of residence...

so you need some suggestions you can come with specific questions and then may be it come to some help...

then you should be fine doing BDS in India.... you can later take MFDS A,B,C. or IQE for practicing dentistry in UK.

for further details you can do some research on FDS, MFDS, FDSGDP, IQE...

okay , never mind about MFDS at this stage ...
if you have an overseas Dental degree like BDS , then when you return UK you should sit for General Dental council exam that is ORE for getting regsitered at GDC... after that yo can comfortably practice in UK...

incase you want to become a specialist in any dental subject like ortho, pedo or oral surgery ..then you have to take MFDS (A,B,C) parts ..but according to new regulations this MFDS is going to phased out and replaced with MJDS..

so unlike in United states where you take NBDE part 1 or 2 and apply to dental school earn a dental degree like DDS/DMD , in UK its a quite straight route once you clear ORE and registered with GDC you can comfortably practice in a NHS or Private practice setting .

hope this helps

hey thanks you are giving me a lot of useful information. May I ask where you graduate from and what nationality you are.

Secondly, I rang up gdc who said that sometimes the exam does not have to be taken (they look at your experience). I didnt quite understand the guy and being at a very young age i dont really get it. He was saying something about passing details to a panel and they look at workexperince, journals etc.

i have US PR, and graduated in 2002 Manipal , India.

if ORE is optional then you are lucky, take MJDS/MFDS and try to specialize in some field, for a better future. As far as experience is concerned you can get that in India after BDS or in UK. So don't think too much about the future, if you are so interested then start heading to Manipal or SDM dharwad. SDM dharwad has MFDS part A center. So you will meet people working towards it. Choice is yours.

Lastly, according to 2008 admission fee structure Manipal BDS will cost you 83,400 USD + expenses etc..,, 100K USD...mann in 10 yrs it doubled .

Thanks starrynight and rtvj for your advice. I sent an email to the associate dean Mr. Gonthier. I heard a lot of nice things about him. Let's see how he can help.

Yes, I can defer it to the next year, but it's too soon to talk about that😀.

dds_aspirant, I'm a PR, so TN doesn't apply.

Thanks. To sit the MFDS, wouldn't you have to do MDS in india first. I had a look at dharwad in august, i found it bad for some reason. I am considering SRMC, what are your thoughts on this?. How do you think nris can settle in india. Btw are you telugu if you dont mind me asking.

You dont have to do MDS for taking MFDS.. i'm pretty sure about this , i know some of my colleagues in Hyderabad where i worked, have attempted and cleared Part A.
SRMC ? i think its in chennai, not a bad idea, even inquire Savitha dental college , chennai,,,got some good reviews about it.

let me tell you something you do from Manipal or SRMC or whatever, it all boils to the same point...atleast in my case, no body gives a **** about the college i have graduated from or the 5 yrs of private practice exp at back home.. part 1 , toefl, Gpa, little luck all that matters.( i am talking more of US scenario).

I visted meenakshi, saveetha and srmc in august. Initially I favoured saveetha but in UK if you want to do temporary registration saveetha is not recognised, only srmc is from chennai. What did you do after getting bds degree, did u work in india?. Also how hard is to actually read bds. I am at present doing pharmacy in uk but teaching is poor and I am finding it very hard hence am considering bds in india.

Secondly, meru telugu a 🙂

I wonder if these universities give preference to US citizens who went to dental school abroad?? what do you guys think? it makes me wonder, because people in this forum are getting fantastic scores and still getting rejections.

i dont think US citizenship has to do anything with the preference...

rejection is a part of the admission process...and evry university has its weird selection criteria..if scores are tied , they look for gpa, if gpa is tied they look for personality, if personality is tied , they look for diversity factor...

so the bottom line is elimination process...

i met a person who was rejected every where even in NYU inspite of having 95+ but was accepted at a state university ...( i cannot disclose his/her name, school, and all personal details )

and lot many examples can be discussed, debated, whatever frm this forum...

limited seats .... multitude of applicants.... as darwin observed...

acceptance of the fittest...

Buffalo, UDM and UIC are the 3 universities that I know, ONLY take applications from US green card holders or US citizens.

Hope this helps

Chato, I have been seeing people scoring in this range in the new format. And guess what, it is not helping them much in their admission process. I am preparing for Part I and due to take in June. I would like to know why you guys are disappointed about your scores and reluctant to take the exam again.? Is it coz' even after adequate prep, you failed to get a good score.? or because the exam is way too tough for an average student.? Just share your experience.
