Let's introduce ourselves!

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Hi all,

I don't have an answer to the last post, but I thought I would introduce myself. I recently finished an EdM in Risk and Prevention (which is a combination of psychology and education). I am currently searching for research positions so that I can begin applications to psych PhD programs. I am undecided between clinical and school psych.

If anyone has suggestions on how to find research assistant positions for someone who is not in an academic setting, they are greatly appreciated!

Thanks,
:) Sunny22

Hi Chris,

I'm curious how long your Ph.D. program is with your master's degree. I'm applying to school now for a master's degree and I can practice in my state with that degree. But, I may decide at some point that a Pd.D. is more practical.

Hi Chris in WA,

My Ph.D. is 5yrs. The only thing I get to transfer into the program is 12 credits from my 60 credit masters program. Although, it should make getting an internship a snap :) but alas I still have to go for 5yrs. My advice would be to go to a school that has a Ph.D. or Psy.D. program so if you want to continue you can just transfer over. GOOD LUCK!

I just joined this forum and this is my first post! This is really a great resource and I already learned a lot from really only this thread. :D

A brief intro to myself: undergrad, Psych major, struggling with my honor thesis right now  I am actually studying as an international student here in US, which is a major factor in how I am gonna plan my future, coz eventually I wanna go back home. Going to clinical psych is my goal. Now I am struggling with the decision of PsyD vs PhD. PsyD tends to be really $$$$$$$$$. Does anyone know any PhD program that are less research-oriented (like I am not working full-time on research, but have time for internship/practicum)?

Hi all,
Thought I'd add my piece to this thread! I joined this forum about a month ago to try and get an idea of what the psychology scene is in the US. I'm from Ireland but hope to move to the States early next year, and have been trying to arrange work in New York over the past couple of months. At the moment I'm finishing an MSc in Applied Psychology (Clinical focus) and working relief in a domestic violence refuge and in a center for children and adolescents requiring emergency care. I also work as a volunteer facilitator for an online support group for people with eating disorders. Eventually, I'd like to specialise in Clinical Psychology. In Ireland that entails either a PsyD or a diploma in Clinical Psychology as we have no PhD programmes in the subject.

Let me start first......I just finished my first year in the clinical psychology program at a Canadian university. My interest is in health psychology and hopefully can pursue research and practice in this area.
Hey Everyone! I am a undergrad. senior at Oklahoma State University majoring in psychology. I am interested in doctoral clinical psychology programs (esp. clinical neuropsychology). I was wondering if anyone would help me out with some schools to look at that have good programs in clinical psychology/ clinical neuropsychology Thanks so much! :)
