I knoew there have been many other threads about this, but I was wondering if there is anyone out there that could find the kindness in their hearts to help me. I just got waitlisted at UVM which has been my first choice from the begining of the application process. I need to write a letter of intent, but I am unsure what kind of format they require and to whom I should address it to. Is there a standard format to these letters other than saying "I really want to got to your school" and gicving a few examples why I feel this way.

Thanks', any help is much appreciated.

(Address to Dean of Admissions)

Paragraph 1: As you may know, I am currently on the waitlist. I am writing to state in no uncertain terms that it is my intent to attend XYZ medical school. If accepted I will withdraw all outstanding applications to other medical schools and begin the process of enrolling at XYZ medical school.

Paragraph 2: Kiss ass. Tell them why you love the school so much. Give details.

Paragraph 3: Closure. Include details about how you may be contacted since you are on the waitlist. (e-mail, home mailing address, phone, any alternate phone numbers, etc.)

Thank you and I hope to see you in August,

Submit that to Microsoft for a word template document

I am in the process of writing letters of interest and one of intent also...so I know how you feel. This aspect of the application is surprisingly difficult.

My main advice is: be honest. If VM is really your top choice and always has been, this should be easy. It's when people over-exaggerate their points that the letter comes off looking like they are just blowing smoke. Also, make it personal. I really think a great approach is to try to be down to earth, simple, and (in some cases) understated.

Good Luck!

You're writing a letter of interest. Just tell them how much you like the school, how much you want to go there, how good of a fit you'd be, kiss a lot of ass. Close with how you're looking forward to a positive response.

should letters of interest also be sent to the dean of admissions? and what if you can't find the address for the dean?
