Letter of Intent Success Rate??

Does anyone have any stories of Letter of intents not working after being waitlisted?

I interviewed at my top choice school located in my hometown in September and got waitlisted in November. I sent them an LOI a few days ago and was wondering if people have gotten rejected after sending one before.

Letters of intent are non-binding statements, and I'm sure many are sent disingenuously to get As. (Not directed at you, just in general).

I think the better question is: "Do people have stories of letters of intent working after being waitlisted?". I also do not know how applicants would know if the LOI is what moved the needle on their WL, but I am interested to hear what people have to say!

I'd wager the success rate of LOIs is <100%.
