A professor of mine will be writing a letter of rec for me and I was wondering what he should write about? What is the purpose of an academic resource writing an LOR for me?

how does he know you and for how long?
what course did he teach you?
how well did you do in his class?
what characteristics does he know you possess that will help you later in being an optometrist?

As I understand it, academic LORs are less about you as a person and more about your ability to be successful in optometry school academically. Are you able to handle a heavy courseload? What does your performance in the professor's class say about your study skills etc.? They could also write about how you are able to work well in a group with other students.
Also anything that shows that you are a committed student who can succeed under pressure!
