Hi SDN,

I have some questions about letter of rec's....Is it viewed negatively if I get a letter from a graduate student instructor (who taught my discussion) and then get that letter cosigned by my professor? The reason that I am considering doing this because my graduate student instructor knows me better, and I feel would write a better rec (since I went to her office hours more).

Also, do letter of rec's have to be specific for med school? because for me I haven't made up a clear decision about if I am going to med school or dental school, and I would like to keep a general letter of rec (one that I can use to apply for med or dent school)...One concern I am having is that this wouldn't be able to show my dedication for either field...is this going to result in some poor letter of rec's?

Thanks!

Yes. It will show that you aren't dedicated to one field. You need to make a decision. A good LOR talks about how good of fit you are to medicine because of your blah blah blah etc.. You could always ask your LOR writers to write two different letters.
