Hey guys, right now I'm a little bit discouraged, let me explain. I'm from Texas, and started getting my application together, mid-August. I failed to realize that two of the Texas Dental Schools require an evaluation letter from a dentist. The application is due by the end of September. The thing is, it has been a while since I've shadowed. I have been shadowing on and off here in the USA and in Mexico. But unfortunately, I don't feel like any of the dentists I've shadowed know me well enough to do an evaluation letter, my GPA is great, my test is great. I did meet a Dentist, and let him know about my situation. Before I even asked him, he said he was impressed by how I carried myself and that I seemed genuine. He said I can send him, my application essays, a resume, and transcript from school, to get an idea of what I'm about. I know he'll have to be honest about just meeting me, but do you guys think if everything else in my application, is above average, that I have a chance?

He sounds very willing to help. You are lucky. I hope for your case that the adcom just looks at the letter as a screening requirement. I'm sure once they look at your full application, they will be impressed with your scores.
I am a TX resident too, but am applying through AADSAS because I have the same problem you do. Have you considered out of states?

I have considered a few out of state schools, but honestly I really want to stay in state because my costs won't be as high. I'm applying through the tmdsas application service, is there much difference in the application service you are using?

I understand how you feel. My parents are so mad that I am not applying to TX schools since I can be considered in-state.
For AADSAS, it's $385 for 3 schools. TMDSAS is $85. The application service is about the same.
How is the application coming along?

get in your application asap to maximize your chances.

This is what I do if I were in your shoes. Contact your family dentist, explain your situation and shadow him for a few consecutive days after which point you'll have about 30 hrs with him and he can write you a meaningful recommendation. I'm sure he'll agree since you are his patient and pay him $$$ in dental fees.
