Popping up for a quick question.

What kind of letters do I need for Anesthesia residencies? How many, and of what sort? (medicine/surgery/anesthesia, and #'s).

Thanks!

I would get one letter for the chair of your anesthesia dept. 1 letter from your favorite anesthesia attending and 1 letter from your favorite medicine-related attending (peds, family, medicine). Use all three for anesthesia and for prelim year. You don't need more than that.

Letters, and what they mean, as told by an interviewer.

Surgery: Hard working
Medicine: Has the brains for it
Anesthesia: Knows what they're getting in to

I got my #1 w/o an anesthesia letter

Dead on good advice. Try for at least 1 anesthesia letter. I think its good to have at least 1 non-anesthesia letter as well. If its 2 medicine and 1 anesth, or 2 anesth and 1 pediatrics - doesn't matter.
