Hi folks,

I am a potential future Sports and Spiner, and I'm starting to look into where I want to apply next year, so I'd like to compile a list of residencies that cover athletic events and games. Doesn't necessarily need to be professional, but that would be great too.

Anyone who knows, please throw some out there - I'd be really interested in seeing this. Thanks!

I'll start it up, as we discussed the other day on tha flo' as I was distracting you from taking admissions :meanie: (feel free to correct my errors as well as add to the list):

UVA
RIC
Stanford
Buffalo(?)

I know there's def more, but I vaguely remember these programs from reading posts in the past.

If you're interested in sporting events, you can definitely get involved in weekend events at Stanford.

I am the sports med coordinator for VCU this year. We have a requirement that residents cover 1 event per semester. Usually, people pick HS football, soccer, or basketball. We also can help ortho cover Virginia Union and St. Paul's College football. During PGY-2 we spend about 2 days in clinic with ortho sports med on one of our outpatient rotations. We cover the Richmond Marathon and can help cover Richmond Renegades Hockey. We have an attending involved with USA boxing who also covers MMA events. Some programs have more required coverage but we have lots of good opportunities. We are also in the early stages of getting a accredited Sports Med fellowship. We already get great pain/spine/EMG exposure so the sports med stuff is getting better and better, which is exciting.

Mayo covers predominantly high school football and hockey, does local preparticipation physicals and covers a local marathan. There are plenty of opportunities to do these and occasionally some others.

I was a resident two years ago and can comment that there is ample opportunity to cover sports (UVA cross country, track, lacrosse and High school football and local running events 10miler to marathon). Some was mandatory, other was up to how willing you were to spend the time.
