LLU Applicants 2014 Summer

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Update: I was accepted by LLU! 🙂 Letters will be sent out in 2-3 weeks. They are currently reviewing all of the interviewed applicants, today was one group, tomorrow they get through another bunch. Good luck to all.

What easb said! How did you find out already? Did you receive a paper mail or an e-mail?

I was emailed my acceptance yesterday late morning - though I'm not sure all the advisers do that. The email stated that I would receive my official packet in 2-3 weeks with instructions on what to do next.

After I told my friend (fellow applicant/interviewer on Nov. 17), they called LLU and asked about updates, and was told that their name was on the list for today's review and to either call after lunch or wait for an email to hear about the committee's decision. Sounds like it's going in some kind of order based on the interviews since I was "reviewed" yesterday (Dec.17 - exactly 1 month after interview). So if you were interviewed on that first date, you can most likely call by Friday morning/next week and know your status, or if you're traditional, wait for an email or your packet in 2-3 weeks.

LLU is my first choice 🙂

I was just notified as well! I got accepted :soexcited:
Looks like I will be one of your future classmates ColtB!

Great! Congrats! Excited to meet all of our classmates! Did they send you an email too? It must be a new thing because we weren't told of emails before, right?

Congrats everyone! I deferred my interview until January. Hopefully there will still be room in the class! Did anyone happen to get a Jan. interview email yet? They said they would send me a new interview email in Dec. but I'm still waiting.

Also, why would you guys choose LLU over Chapman? facilities? faculty? curriculum? I'm having a hard time deciding which I would go to if I got into LLU.

Nope. You forced me to call them, lol. I couldn't wait another 2 weeks to know whether or not I got accepted. They told me I should be expecting a mail notifying me of my acceptance!

I chose LLU because I liked the peaceful campus, the amount of praises it got from current students, students from other disciplines (OT), alumnis & current PT's. In addition, Dr. Johnson and the facility seemed very nice and down to earth. They made it clear that they are here to help us to the best of their abilities.

Which LLU phone number do you call to? You may force me call them as well🙂. CONGRATS!!!

Tell us the good news when you find out!

Haha Well I'm glad I was able to force you into an early christmas present for yourself!! My friend (same as mentioned in previous post) also found out yesterday they got in!! Classmates are rolling in! Time to start the FB page!

Chapman was another option for me as well, but LLU is definitely my first choice. I love the atmosphere at LLU and their commitment to service. A lot of schools are great and educate you and you have a fun time there, but LLU really drives home the idea of being a good yet humble, contributing member to society. The school's motto is "To make man whole," I really love that idea - it's like putting into practice "Be the change you wish to see in the world." In addition, the campus has a beautiful new complex, the professors are fantastic (honestly, some have been nominated for the Nobel Prize), and overall the people are just nice!

I am in too!!! Thank you ColtB and Co Luu for forcing me to call them too! I already love you guys!🙂

Merry Christmas Everyone!

Hope to see more acceptances on this thread, we've all been in it together since summer!

Just got an interview invite for January 12th! Whoo hoo! I didn't think they were even doing anymore interviews so I'm pleasantly surprised : ) anyone else have an interview for that day???

To anyone that has already done an interview at LLU...I have a few questions:

What kind of questions did they ask?

Is there a group interview as well?

What's the best way to prepare myself?

And anything else that you think is helpful would be great!

Thanks guys!

Questions you can expect,
  • Why PT as opposed to a different allied health profession?
  • Why did you choose Loma Linda?
  • What type of sport do you play and what's your favorite sports team? (Yes, he asked me this question because I made a statement that I am active)
The interviewers (faculty) are really nice and they will make you feel comfortable. The interview was more casual than formal. Don't worry too much!
The interview was about 20min-30min long. No group interview. No writing.
In addition, you will have 1st year DPT students in the lobby trying to make you feel at ease and answer questions you may have.

@ Co Luu

Thanks for the info!!! Good to know that's its more casual-- should help ease the anxiety a little.

Regarding the sports question: what do you think their opinion will be on the fact that I don't/ have not actually participated in sports, nor do I actually have a favorite sports team?? I am a very active person, but not in organized sports. I do more solo activities (ie: running, cycling, strength training, etc).

Thanks again!

Hi Everyone!

I too am pleasantly surprised that I have an interview on January 12th, it will be so nice to meet people. I have not been to active on this forum just because this year has been so busy. But CONGRATS TO EVERYONE WHO HAS BEEN ACCEPTED!!! I had a few questions:

1. For out of state applicants what airport is best to fly into and where do most people stay? There was no information in the email about this so I am curious.
2. For those of you who were excepted what made you fall in love with the program?
3. How did you prepare for the interview?
4. Any last minute advice?

I don't think it will affect your chances whatsoever regarding your preference of physical activity, lol.
I just mentioned the sports question as an example to show how casual the interview was.

1. I know people usually land in either the Ontario airport or the San Bernardino International airport and stay at a random motel. Google is your bestfriend!
2. Faculty, campus, and praises from numerous amount of people of how great LLU's DPT program is.
3. Reflect upon why you chose to be a PT, why you applied to LLU, and why you are so awesome 🙂
4. Advice to you is to share significant past experiences you have encountered during your observation hours if you are given the opportunity. Keep in mind, you will have 1st year DPT students in the lobby that will talk to you and answer last minute questions you may have. Take advantage of them and arrive early, haha.

So, I called on Friday and they told me to expect my results after January. My file is still under the review process. Hopefully, to receive a good news.

We'll send positive vibes out for you Megi1212 !

Update: my acceptance packet officially arrived at my house today, so for those already accepted and those who have not called, your packets may be arriving today or in the next few days!!

I got my packet today too. I do not see any instructions on how to submit the deposit, only a yellow piece of paper with $350 deposit that has to be sent "within 15 days." 15 days from what? Are we supposed to enclose a check or money order? I am going to call LLU on Mon., I hope they will be open. If anyone knows what to do with the deposit, I would appreciate the information🙂.

Yeah that was weird, also that lifestyle commitment paper that is stapled to the yellow paper...does that get sent in too? There really wasn't a whole lot of info in this packet, I guess they're waiting for their checks 😉

haha, I guess so🙂)). Yeah, I got that lifestyle commitment paper stapled to the "money request"))). But as far as I remember we already "accepted" those rules when we filled out our secondary application.
I called LLU today, they will be open only on Jan.2. What are you, guys, going to do with the deposit? Any idea if money order is ok for them???

I just wrote out a personal check to LLU for $350 and stuck that with the yellow sheet and the lifestyle commitment paper in an envelope addressed to the address on the back of the yellow card, and sent that in the mail today. As I've mentioned before, I did a few of my pre-reqs at LLU and paying this way is always fine, I would think a money order would be okay too. The 15 days is odd since we received the packet in the middle of the holidays when they are closed...perhaps it doesn't officially start until they resume operations on Jan. 2?

I just received my acceptance letter today yaaayy!!!. Great way to end 2013 :banana:good luck to all applicants!

I was accepted too!!!!:soexcited:
Yayy! I'm so excited to meet everyone!

Good luck to everyone still interviewing!

To those that got accepted, congratulations!

Question. When is everyone planning to send in their deposit? Also, Loma Linda requires us to buy an iPad :bang: ... do you think we can get away with owning a Apple Macbook? If not, then which iPad model are you buys planning to purchase? (Mini or Air)

I am planning to call LLU on Jan.2 and make sure that money order will work for them, then I will send the deposit.
I think I also saw USC requires an iPad, maybe other schools... Anyway, I am not planning to buy it before I know to which school I will go. If I made up my mind to go to LLU, I would look into prices and buy an iPad when the price is good ( we still have 5 months ahead). It sounds like we will need it as all the exams are on iPad.

I got my New Student Account email this morning and began the process of setting up my profile at LLU, guess that means they received and processed my check! I mailed my check exactly 1 week ago.

Hello Everyone! First, congratulations to all that have been accepted and are going in for interviews next week!
I will also be coming in for an interview on Jan. 12th and I'm a bit nervous about this whole process. Is the interview and questions somewhat like the med-school process where they ask about ethical questions, or try to make you think on your feet; by asking questions like "what type of music do you listen to? What animal would you be and why? Etc...?

How is the atmosphere in the room? Is it like a pressure cooker? Lol, can you tell I'm anxious; but excited.

This is a question to the 1st-years who are in the program, how is the camaraderie between all 70 students? How was the first years experience in general?

Haha, we can tell that you seem a bit excited. I don't know what med-school questions are but our program ask questions to see who you are. We do ask ethical question and PT pertaining questions, such as the vision of 2020. Each professor is different but super chill. If you look around the forum, there is a Loma Linda interview thread that has some question that may help you. Just come in relaxed and be yourself.

To answer your question about my cohort. Each cohort is different and the relationship dynamic is depended on your class. I love my class right now. We all get along and try to help each other. The work load is crazy but its manageable. Our PT program really pushes the students to work together and build friendships. The professor are awesome. I love everyone of them. My experience in the 2 quarters been amazing. I hope your interview goes well! Just be stoked 🙂

Thanks Pubicsymphysis! By the way, I love the name!

Hmmmm... The vision of 2020, I'll have to look that up. Is that on the APTA website or the LLU DPT website?

I will definitely come to the interview stoked! Thanks again for the advice!

I was not asked any tricky questions. There were no questions that I would even need to THINK about. There were no crazy questions about animals and things like that🙂. It was more like a NORMAL conversation with someone you have just met and telling him/her about yourself without any pressure. I would recommend to review your application essays that you have written so far (it helped me to put my thoughts together before the interview). Good luck!

Thanks! I'll definitely read over it.

Thanks, that helps take a little bit of stress off. How long does it usually take for the results after the interview? How long until you received your results? I'll definitely look over my essays, as well. I'll also keep everyone updated on how the interview went.

...t-minus 5 days and counting!

For those that are planning to attend LLU this upcoming summer, are you guys planning to dorm or live off-campus?

I just want to know the pros/cons.

Thanks! I'll definitely read over it.

It took almost 1.5 month to hear back from them. I was at the very first interview though. You will probably hear back sooner! 🙂

Am I the only one struggling with with what points to highlight about my experiences with PT? I have observed, done research on campus and in a program, I have been a rehabilitation aide ( for a few weeks, I had a terrible experience with the PT..), I work with children who have autism now....these have all been great experiences for me but should I highlight all of them?

Sorry I meant should I highlight all of them in my interview....I guess this is just nerves setting in.

ptlover, your not the only one struggling with what points to highlight. I just think once we are in the room under pressure, it "should" come out naturally. I agree with you, my nerves are giving me the roller coaster ride feeling.

Good luck on Sunday!

Hey Naj81, I'm in the same boat as you. I'm nervous as well, but I've been reading comments from the students who have been accepted, and what I'm getting is just be yourself and "know" why you are there for PT school.

Good luck, and please feel free to share your experience.

Thank you! And yes, reading all these comments have actually put me at ease. Tomorrow is the big day and I'm ready. I will keep you posted on how the interview went.

Tomorrow is my interview...please keep me in your prayers 🙂 Thank you in advance!

When is an appropriate time to call them to see if we got accepted?
