Ok, so I think that if we are all going to be experiencing the "small town feeling", we should get to know who we will be studying and hangin with. Thus, some bios about ourselves seems appropriate, yeah? I will start just by saying my name and a tad about my situation and where I am coming from. Hopefully we can all get to know eachother a bit before classes start. I think it might make things seem and feel a little easier.......

Here I go.

My name is Austin. I am married with two great kids: a 2 1/2 year old daughter and a 7 month old son. I am coming from Salt Lake City, UT. (yeah, olympics, mormons, etc.)🙂 I play golf, basketball, football: pretty much any sport that involves a ball ( I usually suck at all of them though). I run my own business, washing windows commercially and residentially. I eat way too much and dont get enough sleep (only like 14 hours a day...). Anyhoo, I can think of some more about me, lets just see who else decides to let loose here also. Dont be shy.......🙂 🙂

My name is Sarah. I am 28. I am married and have four children. They are 10, 5, 23months, and 10 months. I actually still want more some day. I work part-time as a medical assistant/receptionist/research coordinator and a bit of everything else for my father who is a neurologist. I am also still a student but am only taking organic chemistry. I just graduated in August with my BA in biology. My husband is the manager of a bagel bakery. I am from the Albany, NY area, but I was actually born near and still have family near Harrogate. I was born in Norton, VA which is a little more that an hour from LMU-DCOM. I love writing poetry and prose, bird watching, gardening, being outside, riding horses, being a mom, and learning things. I eat too much (I love food) and don't get enough sleep either, but that happens when you have four kids. I think that is about it. 😀 Our kids can play together! See you in August!

Oh yea, and I play piano and compose my own music.

My name is Shauna and I am from Yorba Linda California. I recently graduated from University of California Riverside with a degree in Biological Science, emphasis in Medical Biology. I currently work at UCI Medical Center at both a Hospital Unit Service Coordinator and a Pet Therapy Assistant (I love those pet therapy dogs and horse). I have 2 dogs named Gigi and Candy, both are chihuahua mixes and are both my little babies. I love the outdoors and nature in general. My favorite television show is Grey's Anatomy. My favorite musical group is U2. And I also love food but try to eat it in moderation. Eventually I want to become a primary care physician in Internal Medicine. I can't wait to meet everybody and I will see you all in August. 🙂

My name is Alan and Im 32. Im from the suburbs of Chicago. Ive been in the military, USMC, Ive had a full time job pretty much since the age of 13. Ive done just about every menial job you can think of lol... Currently I work for a private ambulance company where we do contract 911 along with non emergency neo and critical care transports. Ive got a bachelors in microbiology and zoology along with a MBA. Im single with no kids. I like to go offroading and camping so Im guessing Im gonna have a pretty good time down at DCOM. Im pretty excited to be starting med school and I think DCOM is gonna be one of the best schools around. Theres so many things that Id like to do, like start a medical fraternity and an emergency medicine interest club, but I also know that were not gonna have alot of free time and I dont wanna over extend myself. I am also excited that were gonna be part of the schools inaugural class and the start of some new traditions. Im probably gonna end up living in the new hotel dorms that their building. So Im thinking that Im gonna have to have a roommate. I am definately a night person and I am awake until all hours of the night. Well I guess thats enough for now,lol... Its nice to start meeting some of the people Im going to be spending the next four years in class with.🙂

It seems like most of us love to eat and be outside. Cool! We are going to have lots of fun. Oh also, I want to specialize in rural family medicine.:luck: 😀

My name is Ian, and I am from middle TN where I attended MTSU. I transferred from the University of the South in a small town like Harrogate. I have bachelors in Athletic Training/Sports Medicine and General Science. My background also comes from the ambulance, where I have worked for 4.5 years or so. I'm a geek and I like it, love the outdoors and also like offroading (i just bought a 75 CJ5 on 33's!) Anyhow, we have a ton of opportunity ahead, lets do right with it. I love being social and getting away from the "right now" for a second to keep my sanity. I also am looking to take a vested interest in personal health beyond what I do now, so I would like to have some exercise partners. I was able to work a free medical clinic at LMU a few months ago and found the people around the area are great. We (meaning the school) are VERY well welcomed and will be able to do great things. I would like to start some nationally recognized clubs that will in turn spawn networking with us and other medical schools. LMU has an active nursing program, so hopefully we can also tap into some of their resources for added study, clubs, and/or connections.
Oh, I'm 26, stick to practicing on the kid part, eat constantly, sleep occasionaly, and definitely have my quirks to offer our class!

HEY!!! Where is everybody else? I know there is more than just us. I want more info and pics! LOL!😀

So now that I have officially received my letter I thought I could introduce myself...

My name is Nicole... I'm 23 and live in Connecticut... for now... I went to college in MA so TN is going to be a big change for me but I can't wait to get down there and experience a whole new environment. I am single with no kids but I also love food and right now am currently totally confused about housing for next year, I think I will probably end up in the hotel apartments, hopefully with a roommate... but we will see... but I am really looking forward to being DCOM's 1st class and finally living out my dream of becoming a doctor... so hello everyone! Can't wait to meet you all in August!

Now that it's official, introductions do seem appropriate. My name is Owen, I'm from Minneapolis. I went to the University of Wisconsin-Madison for undergrad, and I've since stayed in Madison where I work currently as a research tech in biochemistry. Some fun previous jobs include teaching cooking classes and seafood sales as a fishmonger. Most of my interests revolve around good food, music, art, and playing with my pup, Aedan, the chocolate lab. I can't wait to meet you all in August. Unitil then, here's to the vanguard LMU-DCOM inaugural class of 2011! Since we're the first, we'll have to be the best.

Just bumping this thread so the rest of the class can come and post....🙂

I'm Mitch and though I now live in Missouri, I grew up in Kansas and spent 25 of my 30 years living there. I graduated from Baker University in Baldwin City, KS in 1998, and have been in the Pharma/Animal Health industry since then. In 2002, shortly after moving to St. Joe, I found a lump on my neck that turned out to be Hodgkin's Disease, so during the treatments for that, i started thinking about medicine again. Thankfully, my treatments went very well, and I've been cancer free for nearly 5 years.

I married my now wife that December, just 10 days after the diagnosis, and she has since gone through nursing school. We have no kids, but have 3 dogs, 3 cats, and a 75 gallon saltwater fish tank. It keeps us busy to say the least.

I wrestled through high school and played football through college, so I've always been into athletics, though I have not been athletic in recent years. I'm very into college athletics and love to tailgate. BBQ'ing is one of my favorite hobbies, in addition to cooking and landscaping, etc...Also love to ride our Jet Ski, so we like being near lakes, and wish we could buy a boat.

I'm pretty jacked up to get back into school full time and start doing something I'm very passionate about.

Hey guys,

Sup Everyone...i figured i'd give this personal bio thing a try here. My name is Nick and i live a walk away from the beach in the panhandle of Florida in Destin, FL. (About 20 min. from Panama City which most may know of) I am 23 and graduated from Rollins College in Winter Park, FL with a degree in Biochemistry & Molecular Biology. I am single with no kids. I was in a fraternity and love to kick back with my friends with a cold beer and party on my free time. I surf, play guitar, play soccer, love the outdoors and have dreamed of being a physician my entire life. I started and was the president of the American Medical Student Association pre-medical society at Rollins and plan on getting a chapter started at LMU-DCOM to help promote DCOM in being the top medical institution in the country. I hope we all lead DCOM TOGETHER in being an outstanding school nationwide. We all need to come together in order to do this. I truly love great class comradery and hope we become very close. Look forward to meeting you all and of course studying all the time togeher.

I am too... I am looking forward to it... should be fun and so close to school, plus they've told me there's a pool! 😎

I'll be in those apartments also....we will have to break em in with a welcoming bash or BBQ!!!

Why hello thar! My name is Martha and I'm from Upper Black Eddy, PA but I live in Phoenixville, PA right now with a friend from college. I graduated from Ursinus College in 2006 with a BS in Biology. I actually had enough credits for a minor in French but didn't realize it until it was too late to get the papers signed. Oh well. I love anything and everything that had to do with music and I basically spent my childhood in the woods covered with dirt. I'm not graceful in any sense of the word and have sprained my ankles so many times that I basically can't do it anymore. I can't wait for orientation to start and I reeeeeeeeeeeally hope that Dr. Leo wasn't kidding during my interview and that we get to go white water rafting for orientation, as that would make me very happy. Of course I'm easily amused and you could shake a piece of paper in my face and make a strange noise and I'm probably laugh. A lot...

Deziree,
My wife and I were able to find a 3 bdrm rental for $500 a month within 10 minutes of campus. I could give you the name of the realtor who may have other properties if you are interested.

I'm trying to buy a 5 bdrm house and as long as everything goes well you would be more than welcome to rent out a room or two. Pets are welcome as well. 😍

:biglove: Thanks so much LawMan annd Marthea007 for responding to my query!

LawMan, the number for your realtor would be great. I appreciate it. $500 a month for 3 bedrooms is amazing. Here in L.A. you can't even find a studio apt. for less than $850 a month!

Marthea007, do you have kids, too? Well, I hope everything works out with your prospective house! It's very kind of you to offer to rent us a couple rooms, thanks.

Y'all rock!

You are very welcome. 😍 I only have a puppy and he is enough of a kid for me right now.

Wow I just discovered this DCOM thread, cool! Well some of you already know who I am, my name is Carlos, currently living in San Antonio, TX!!! GO SPURS!!! Im 27 and I was born In California but grew up in Guatemala. Didn't learn English til I was 12. Graduated from Texas Tech University in 2003 and have been doing stem cell research since then. Ive also been doing pediatric psychiatric therapy and I am an artist. I am extremely competitive, at everything, I hate losing!! I love sports, specially football and soccer and anything outdoors!! Once I become a doctor I would like to donate my medical talents to 3rd world countries like the one I grew up in!

I too will be staying at the Univ Apts, should be fun, but honestly, Im dreading the tiny room crap, but oh well! I consider myself an extremely goofy and funny guy, love to have fun but im extremely serious when needed to be! I have a myspace if you guys wanna hit me up and introduce yourself!! www.myspace.com/carloscabrera

Oh yeah, I've been single for 4 years and have no kids!!! Looking to meet my future wife at DCOM! haha....

My name is David and I am 26 years old. I am happily married to my wife, Amanda, who is also an LMU Alumni. She played on the LMU Women's basketball team. In addition, I was born in Middlesboro, KY and grew up in Claiborne County.

I graduated high school from the J. Frank White Academy of Lincoln Memorial University. After HS, I earned my BS in Athletic Training and Physical Education (Minor in Athletic Coaching) from LMU. During my time at LMU, I was also a four-year member of the LMU Golf Team.

As a graduate assistant, I earned my MS in Health and Human Performance: Advanced Athletic Training Concentration from the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga. As a first year GA, I was the Head Athletic Trainer at Gordon Lee High School in Chickamauga, GA. As a second year GA, I became the Head Athletic Trainer for the University of Tennessee-Chattanooga men's basketball team. That year, we made an appearance in the 2005 NCAA Tournament competing against Wake Forest in Cleveland, Ohio.

After graduation, I returned to Claiborne County to begin the Claiborne County Hospital Sports Medicine Outreach Program while simultaneously pursuing my PhD in Exercise Physiology: Biomechanics Concentration from the University of Kentucky.

After completing nearly 2 years of PhD work, I heard about the ostepathic medical school being constructed "in my backyard". Since being a physician has been a lifelong dream, I applied and was accepted on 05/24. Currently, I am the Sports Medicine Coordinator for Claiborne County Hospital in Tazewell, TN and look forward to meeting everyone this fall!

I just got a house! After seeing 30 houses, this is the best one and we were very picky. It's beautiful and located on Lincoln Memorial Estates. It is closer to the school than the dorms and I NEED AT LEAST ONE ROOMMATE!

If you've already put down a housing deposit, we can give you $50 bucks off the first four months rent. It will probably ultimately be cheaper than living in the dorms also.

HOUSE INCLUDES: 3 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, kitchen, front patio, large back porch, two car garage, living room, fireplace, washer and dryer, all appliances, my dad and i will be fully furnishing it

Large bedroom (13.5'x10')rent is $700 + util
Small bedroom (10'x10')rent is $500+ util

Prices may be negotiable

Each room will have full size bed, dresser, and desk included. Both bedrooms open on to front patio for excellent views. Surrounded by hills and trees on three sides. Large bedroom gets priority use of the other spot in the garage.

I have tons of pics from every angle, but I can't remember how to post them. So either tell me how or PM me and I will send them to you. I"m very laid back and fun to live with and I also keep things pretty clean. Male and female are both welcome to apply.

Please PM me if you have any interest or want any info. I can also receive messages on facebook.
My name is Blake Spiegel.

My name is Blake. I grew up in Dallas, TX and I went to undergrad at Vanderbilt University in Nashville. I majored in Neuroscience and minored in film. I am 23 years old and have been living at home for the past year and working in my dad's office (he is a gastro).

I am a huge hockey fan and love all sports in general. I love to joke around and try not to take things too seriously(except studying for med school). Any time we get a day off from study I will probably want to go to the lake, go golfing, or go snowboarding and I'd love to bring friends.

we'll save the rest for when we all hang out next year. oh, and did i mention I'm looking for a roommate?

My name is Amanda Vanlandingham. I am 23 years old, single, no kids. I live in New Tazewell and have my entire life. However, I moved to south east Alabama when my parents divorced and my dad moved back down there. I went to high school in Geneva, Al and went to Troy State University where I received my BS in Cell and Molecular Biology.

I moved back to New Tazewell full time last July. I taught Pre-Algebra at J. Frank White Academy and also worked at the Claiborne County Hospital Rehabiliation Center in Harrogate. I am a very laid back, go with the flow type of person and am just trying to enjoy the summer as much as possible. I LOVE to travel, go to the lake, tan, shop, etc etc etc. Just having a good time is basically what I do with anything I do. Right now my addiction is going to the lake and learning how to wakeboard (I am able to get up and stay up, but still working on crossing wakes, etc). Well if you want to know anything else just let me know!!

I'm Brig, im 22 from Tulsa, OK. I went to Westminster College in Fulton, MO and majored in Bio. I like to exercise, read, hang out, hike, whatever else. 0 children. I'll be residing in the apartments, which I think provide plenty of space...then again I lived in a closet in a fraternity house for the last year of school, so anything is better than that if you ask me. I'm excited about the opportunity to practice medicine, but I also realize that it will be slightly tougher to enter certain specialties coming from a new school, so I look forward to helping spread the good name of DCOM along w/ y'all. See you guys in late july/early august

Hi comrades! I am thrilled to be a part of the class of 2011 at LMU-DCOM! My name is Aimee, and I am coming from Denver. I'm 3 weeks away from the big '30'-which, given my new circumstances, couldn't be more welcome! I'll be in Harrogate June 11th-13th. I'm moving out all my "stuff" and will hopefully come to a decision about accomodations for the next two years. I'm looking forward to meeting all of you very soon! Take care.

Just found this thread. I'm 26 married with 3 kids, daughter 6, son 3, daughter 1. I am pumped about DCOM and ready to get moved down there...just not ready to do all that packing. I'm from Henryetta, Oklahoma which is about 45 miles S. of Tulsa. I grew up here and got my undergrad @ Oklahoma Christian University where I played tennis for 3 years. I enjoy spending time with my fam, going to the gym, tennis, and many other outdoor activities that I don't ever seem to have time for. What else...I like most every movie I see, so I'm not a very good critic and I hate sushi. Big Adam Sandler fan (his earlier stuff) and now I'm rambling...so I'll cut it off.

AHHHHH...I left off my name. I'm Andy.

wow... that makes...uhmmm like alot.
4+4+3+3+2+1+...+...+... 😕
I'm guessing 40+ kids under 10.😍

Good luck with the move. I only have to move 45 miles and it's stressful.:scared:

Mine are 6,4 & 3.
We lucked out and my cousin from Norway is comeing to live with us and take care of the two smallest boys.😀

hey there ya'all!
i'm joe.

i'm a 25 yr old beach bum that freeloads off the unsuspecting islanders of the USVI.

i'm pretty sure that ninja monkeys are meeting (as we speak), plotting my demise.

that should cover all the important stuff.

see ya'all soon in class!

Hey everyone, I'm Courtney. I live in Evansville, IN, 24 years old, and have a degree in Chemistry. This past year I've been working at a Pharmaceutical company, Bristol Myers, testing all sorts of products before, during, and after production. I'll be in the med student apts but I'm a little bit nervous b/c I have SOOOOO much stuff to fit in a tiny room! And I have never lived w/o a dishwasher! I think I'll be eating out all year or using paper plates! Can't wait to meet everyone!

Hi there! Just found this thread, and joined SDN, so I thought I would introduce myself! My name is Anne, and I'm 27 living in Knoxville Tennessee. I grew up all over (Houston, North Carolina, Missouri, Kansas) and I got my BA from the University of Kansas (Rock Chalk Jayhawk!), then I moved to Knoxville and got my MA and my PhD from the University of Tennesse in Physical and Forensic Anthropology. My research focus is on skeletal trauma and impact biomechanics, in other words I get to break things! 😀 I'm SUPER excited about starting in August and I can't wait to meet everyone! I love school, but I also love to relax, run, enjoy the outdoors, laugh, and basically goof off!! See everyone soon!

Hey Everyone,

My name is Amelia and I'm from Marquette, MI (way up on Lake Superior). I did my undergrad at University of Michigan in political science and psychology then worked for a law firm in Chicago for one year. Decided to go back and apply to med school so I took my premed classes at Northern Michigan University in Marquette. I'm 24 (I'll be 25 in August), not married and don't have kids. I love biking (mountain and road), running, good food, anything on the water, oh and I just learned how to fly fish. And I'm moving in to the University housing. And I can't wait to get to Tennessee and start school and meet everyone!
