I can guarantee there will be some movement happening. Tiago is going to OU instead of DCOM, so that is a spot. I think a lot of it is PR, like when they tell you a baseball game is sold out yet there are tons of seats empty. It always sounds good to tell people the stadium/class is full b/c it gives others the feeling that something good is happening over here and that they should try them out.

Nascardoc I hope you are right about that. Maybe all meet Lala at Mr Carney's and we can mow, trim, and weed. What do you say LAla. I guess I'll have to sit back and wait some more.

haha sounds like a plan businessman! i'll be ready with hedge clippers, a lawnmower, and some lemonade.

oh mr. carney please let the two of us in! we heart dcom

The biggest reason I say this is b/c DO waitlists haven't moved too much and I know (none personally, just guessing) there are people who have accepted a spot at DCOM but will take a spot at another school they are waiting for. I doubt that every person who has accepted a spot, that they all will be going to DCOM. So, yeah the class may be "full" right now, but it is going to change and spots will open up.

But in the meantime, get that greenthumb ready 👍 :meanie:

I finished school and have been working most days so I haven't been around the comp. much. When are you headed down?

Congrats with school!!! We are heading down tomorrow and should be at the hotel by early afternoon. We will probably just do some driving tomorrow and start our house hunting Monday with the realtor. My wife has an interview Wednesday, so after that we will go see the Pinnacle Overlook and I am hoping the golf course in KY will let me drive around the course so I can take a look at it. I won't be bringing my sticks with me b/c we won't have enough time for me to play 🙁 , but that is OK 😳 . I will probably visit DCOM on THursday and see what is going on over there and talk to some of the folk there. We are flying home Thursday night.

I agree with this. From what I have seen on other threads, it is not uncommon for someone to be holding 2-4 spots...just for the fun of it, I guess. There is no way that the class will stay the same from yesterday until Aug. 1.

Businessman and Lala you know I am seriously crossing all my fingers and toes for you! :luck: G'luck :luck:

Good luck, y'all! I'm waiting with you. I'm trying to get motivated to find a backup plan...

...for the next year. I will reapply if necessary!

Re-edit:

Sorry, I didn't mean to post here -- don't report me. 😉

I noticed Dr. Inviz got banned, it's a shame -- he was one of my favorite posters and the reason I kept coming back to read the forums. His snide and sarcastic, sometimes rude, comments were great, but he was also a straight up, realistic guy. This isn't seen much from the osteo side, and it was refreshing. Big mistake to ban him.

 zivnI .rD?

hey, it looks like the wife may have found us a house! It is right across the street from the school, so we are pumped 😀 . So, on the downside...can I borrow someone's lawnmower? Apparently I have to cut my own grass🙁

Did anyone who interviewed in mid-April get accepted or was everyone waitlisted?

Is it the one on Nettleton? If so my wife liked that one as well and I loved the location, step out the front door cross the street and your on the path that goes to the school. Great location.

You can borrow my lawnmower, but it is probably easier to buy a cheap one. I also have a phone number for a guy who does lawn care. Let me know if you need either.

Well, the wife and I made it out to TN and are chilling at the Holiday Inn Express. I wanted to post some driving times for those who are still wondering about where to live.

Knoxville to DCOM (via 63): 1 hr 15 min
Cove Lake State Park to DCOM: 45 min
Jacksboro to DCOM: 40 min
LaFollette to DCOM: 30 min

Traffic does get a bit slow thru Jacksboro and LaFollette b/c there are a few traffic lights. But once you get thru those, you are wide open until DCOM. We averaged 65 mph and at times hit 80 mph. If anyone has any questions for the staff (except Dr. Leo b/c he is out of town), let me know and I will try to get them answered for you.

Banned again already! :wow:

Yea, thats kind of funny.

So what is everyone doing?? This thread really does die down when DocMom leaves.

You don't think it might be the fact that it is now summer and people are looking for housing or preparing their newly purchased house? It is now time to get away from the books and computer and spend time with friends and family.

I know that is true for me. We are also getting ready to leave on vacation and will be out for 2 wks at least.

It's not just this thread, it is all of sdn. I noticed things slowing down like a month ago and now it is just boring in pre-osteo.

Hey, does anyone know when we are going to get a finalized booklist for at least the Fall semester? I want to get them all in advance.

thats a good question about the book list...i was wondering i think i'm going to wait till orientation to get all of my books at LMU...is anyone else doing that or is everyone getting them in advance on-line?...just wanted some thoughts

I'm definitely waiting till I atleast get down to TN if not till orientation... its just one less thing I have to move down there, ya know?

I'm afraid that I might have to wait until my loan money comes in before I purchase the books. I'm anticipating them costing around a grand, does that sound right?! I hope they will not be too vital for the first week!

I'll be waiting until we move to TN to order books. The last time I priced books (after the last list came out in March), I believe it was under $500. I don't think that there was a book over $100 except for maybe one.

We visited the LMU bookstore today and it is really nice. They have lots of LMU stuff and we made some purchases. The t-shirt is pretty plain, but at least it is something and I know they will be ordering more. They do have some stickers, but nothing for a car b/c the stickers they have are for the outside of a window. Stuff keeps trickling in, so I would imagine that within the next month or so, there will be more. The school is looking really good and they are almost done putting brick on the third side. They should finish before we leave, so I will post some pics after they finish.

We looked at our first set of houses today and it is going well. We found two that we really like, but we have more to look at tomorrow, so we will see what happens. If anyone needs a realtor, the one we are using is excellent. We are really impressed and she knows the area very well. Her name is Stephanie Hoskins and if anyone has any questions about her or you want her contact info, PM me and I will give it to you.

I agree...i'll be waiting till i get there to get all of my books just in case something changes and it will be a lot less to haul up there...plus LMU prices on books are relatively the same as on-line so there isn't a huge savings unless you get really used books...

Plus according to the book list -"the textbooks for pharmacology, cell biology, and the Foundations of Modern Health Care and Musculoskeletal courses have not yet been selected".

I think this will possibly add another $400 to the book total, plus any review type books you may want.

True, but so far, the books are a ton cheaper than what I was expecting. I was figuring each book would be a minimum of $150, so I am happy with the prices so far. I was able to browse thru a couple of the books briefly today in the bookstore and they look good.

For any of the golfers out there, I visited Wasioto Winds golf course which is part of Pine Mountain State Park. Quite simply, all I can say is 😱 😱 😱 . The course is amazing and I can't wait to play it. It is a very challenging course and the holes are beautiful. The signature hole is #12 which has an elevated green that allows you to see the entire course...just stunning. The 18th hole is 639 yards if you play from the back tees and is a narrow hole. I can't wait to hit this course!!!!!!!

This is the front of the polo. PM me if you want some!!!

LOVE them.... mine better be in the mail :biglove:

Well the reason I asked about the book list is because I plan to get them used off of Amazon. You can get them much cheaper that way. You guys are probably right in the fact of waiting to get them. I will probably move into the apartments around the earliest move in date and just order them when I get there and have them sent there.

Anyone know how they are going to assign apartments in the med student housing?

BTW I like the polo's. I want to get one for myself.

:biglove: OMG!!! i want that tee

I am so ready to get accepted LOL.
Finally this stupid semester is over. I was a dumb a$$ to take 23 credit hrs but hey i made it. 4A's, 1C(stupid orgo) and 1B(stupid middle ages art)...weeehhhh...So my GPA's are official now. Thank you GOD:bow:

haha... well wanna know what i did to raise my GPA when I was in college? Since Spanish was my first language and I am completely fluent in it, I purposely bombed the foreign language placement test and had to take like 20 hrs of beginners Spanish. Needless to say I got all A's!!! hahaha... I know, not fair.... but screw it!!!

Now only MCAT and i will finally start the apps cycle. I can't wait. I have everything ready. For some reason i am very excited:clap:  ...wierd right? I am not even scared...oh, man this is a bad sign...no?

You have to copy/paste... linking did not work.

But it's a great search tool.

Good luck.

I agree with this website - it is fantastic. This link may work...

Again, if anyone needs a real estate agent, I can't recommend Stephanie Hoskins enough - she is absolutely fantastic!!! :biglove: She has taken, literally, two days driving us around to different houses and is just a great person.

We are putting an offer on a house tomorrow, so hopefully we will know soon what happens. Once we know for sure, I will let you guys know.
I hope to stop by the school tomorrow and talk to some profs and take some pictures. Everything looks good from the outside and I am excited about seeing the inside soon.

Are these in the bookstore?

No.

The only shirts at the bookstore are the ones with a logo on the right(?) chest pocket.

I went there thinking it was available, and they had no clue what I was asking about. Thanks Dr McD for the odd feeling of them looking at me like I was a little off.

I'm on my way to DCOM tomorrow with my dad to look at houses. My dad is considering a real estate investment. Otherwise, I will probably end up in the dorms...I assume for the first year anyone can gets a double room who wants one since there will probably be a lot more rooms than students this year.

This first year should be a really interesting experience for everyone....not just because it is our first year of medical school, but it's the first year they start installing all the curriculum and using the new technology. Plus, this first class will have a year where we are the only ones in the school. should be great for us.

that shirt looks pretty sweet...not a huge fan of four buttons in the front, but whatever. I definitely like the logo on the back.

On the golf course...I'm terrible, but I've started playing a little bit more and would be more than game for a round when the weekend rolls around. It could be a nice escape. How far away is that from campus? I may need to add golf clubs to my school supplies list, haha.

anyway, only two more weeks of work until I can quit and start the summer of preparation for med school. It's the Summer of George!

Well you can always do some flag football with me and other DCOMer's. Since we are going to be the first med school class in harrogate i want to live in the renovated apts. It would give us the opportunity to stay close to our classmates and hopefully help each other out. Perhaps next year i will consider moving into a house, not just that we would all be moving around during 3rd and 4th years..so iam not sure if real estate investment in harrogate would be a good idea unless you intend to make it available for lease to the future DCOMer's. Anyways, i shouldn't be talking much about real estate...iam no expert.lol

Sorry, I thought it was understood that the plan would be to live there for two years and then lease it to all incoming students or people who live in dorms one year and want a house for the second year. However, if I was goign to buy a house, then I might as well get it for both years rather than live there for one of two.

I think they are building a new business school as well, so we anticipate lots of people moving in and out of housing in the area in the near future.

I think there are several people going down this road. I think it will be much easier for the class of 2008 to find housing.

Do we get to compete in intramural sports with the underclassman? If so, they will be mad when the med students win everything 😀

😆 😆 😆 Very nice Seinfeld-ism.

The golf course in KY is about 10-15 min from DCOM, right up 25 to Pine Mountain State Park. It is a great course and it looks very challenging.

We also found another course in Tazewell named Wood Lake. Again, the course is very beautiful with tons of elevation changes and difficult shots. The prices are fantastic ($34 weekdays and $42 weekends, includes cart). I am excited to play this one too.
