lol you kidding me bro? I am always down for some xbox..hehe.Infact i was contemplating buying one this summer depending on the cash that's left in my pocket, however if you plan to live in the medical school apartments..we can always get some madden, halo, mlb games going all night!

Freak yeah!!!! You kiddin me? I am a fellow Halo gunner......lets do it. I think we should make some kind of hang out lounge at school with a couple of xbox consoles.....that may be too dangerous though.

I would love to hear from any of you (accepted LMU-DCOM class of 2011) and yalls acceptance feedback. It has been 12 days since the day of my interview and no letter or phone call yet. Im dying!

I interviewed on a Tues, and got my call the following Monday.....this was late November-ish. I think the deal is this......if you interview on a thursday, its very tough to hear back as soon, cause they meet on a thursday for admission decisions. Is that when you interviewed??? Anyhoo, good luck with it. I hope you get in....

XBox 360? I'd be happy to have someone to play against! That would be fun.

I just have Tiger Woods Golf, Gears of War, and NCAA BBall and Football.

I love playing, but it's more fun playing against another person...in person. I haven't even hooked it up online...and have only played it maybe 3 hours since I got it last June.

Good luck to drpriss on gettin' in!

Hi everyone!!! It's been a while since i've spoken to ya'll last, but still know that I think about DCOM and my future fellow classmates all the time. We are going to be the best inaugral class ever!!!

One of my friends works for the Texas Osteopathic Medical Association and he sent me a link about DCOM. Thought some of ya'll might be interested in reading it.

that was an interesting article, but the whole we wanna make you into a primary care physician still bothers me. Honestly i love osteopathy but their goal to train future primary care doctors is quite discouraging.

From the article:

This is important because national organizations predict a glut in specialists within five years and a shortage in primary-care physicians by 2020, Stowers said.

speaking of FP...anybody going into any specialties? I am interested in EM, ortho, maybe oncology (peds). Anybody else

Hey I have been thinking about pediatric oncology too. I really want the East TN children's hospital as my 3rd year rotating site!!

I want general peds. I love working at the CT Children's Hospital right now.... I want East TN Children's too... I would love to do a month at St. Jude's!!

General surgery baby!!!

good games, I have Madden, Ghost Recon, PGR...but it is so ahrd to find time to play, I can't imagine the next four years!

Don't worry. It's the goal of EVERY osteopathic medical school to get you into primary care. But the other 40% or so get to specialize...so just be good at what you do (and like doing it) and everything will be fine. Also, remember that primary care includes everything from pediatrics to family medicine to obgyn.

And how many of you guys are willing to bet that what you want to be going into medical school will change once you are doing your rotations? You never know. Keep an open mind. =)

Right now, I want to do either family medicine or orthopedics. or peds. and maybe EM too. hahha. We'll see. 🙂

Hey Everyone,

I received my acceptance a little while ago and thought I should introduce myself. I'll be coming all the way from Canada to join the inaugural class of LMU-DCOM in Tennessee... I'm very much looking forward to starting medical school and meeting all of you! See you in August.

Congrats! You deserve to be in medical school, so tell us about yourself?

I've read numerous articles about how video game skills improve surgical techniques. I'm interested in surgery and have never played a video game, except Tetris but that doesn't count. I guess I need to learn. So may I join you men in your xbox tournaments, or whatever gaming system you use?

I'll can teach you how to stitch. 🙂

Congrats! We love Canadiens!

so I'm a little behind but when filling out FAFSA we MUST put our parents' info in even if they didn't claim you as a dependent in 06-07?

For the FASFA I think theres an age cutoff for putting down parents info.. I think its 25 but Id call the school to be sure..

I didn't, but I'm a bit older than you...you might get in touch with Pat Peace just to make sure.

I'm betting you will be considered independent, however.

As for specialization, I have no idea..I have things I think I'd like in mind, but then I do one of those "personality" matches, and its stuff like Derm, Rads, etc...and I don't think I'd enjoy that at all...who knows.

I too want to see if I can got to St. Jude's for a while.

haha sure you can as long as you do our laundry j/k

Well I am kind of a lurker. I got accepted back in November.

I wanted to say congratulations to cbest for getting accepted.

I also wanted to mention that when you fill out your FAFSA, because you are going into a professional school, you are automatically considered independent and thus don't need to fill out parental information.

Finally, I wanted to mention that I recently emailed Dr. Leo for some more information about the hotel apartments and he mentioned that there will be a night stand for the bed and that the kitchenette will contain a stovetop, microwave and cabinets for storage.

Well iam filing as independent too, however fafsa tells you to mention parental info if you are going into health care fields. So i am doing it to avoid any unnecessary headaches, alright hope this helped?

sweet, tell us about yourself? So assuming from the info you will be living in the apartments right? So far a lot of people have been looking for a place in harrogate or nearby, on the other side i already reserved my apt and anxious to know who will be my neighbors?

sort of a change of pace...

what is everyone doing to kill the time between now and mid-July?

I have to work for now, but I am trying to set up some shadowing stuff on the weekends. Anyone doing anything fun?

Well I live in Orange County CA. I graduated from UC Riverside last June with a degree in Biological Science-Medical Biology. I currently work at UCI Medical Center. I do plan to live in the hotel apartments. I am very excited to come to Tennessee and to start at LMU-DCOM but at the same time I know it will be an adjustment because I will be so far from my family and my 2 dogs. On the other side of that, it will be nice to get away from the smog, congestion and traffic that is associated with Southern CA. I have been trying to figure out what I should bring/buy in order to furnish the apartments thus why I found out the information on the apartments in the first place.

sounds good, well me being from NY i know how you feeling leaving CA. In the beginning it will be quite an adjustment to TN, but we will be spending most of our time studying neways. I know people from other medschools, they all tell me that no matter where you go you will have very less time for other things..so end of the day it makes no difference if your med school is in a remote area. I just hope we all get along and help each other out, regarding the apartments, i was strongly considering buying most of my furniture in knoxville when i get there. I have an SUV but i can hardly fit the kind of couches i wanna buy lol Well we'll see, it's not like we have upper classmen to sell their stuff...we def have to look for garage sales possibly. Alright CAT congrats on your acceptance, we'll have fun.

I am painfully dragging myself to work every day and taking an online Physics II class...

I hope to be able to use up all of my 20-24 days of PTO between now and when I quit.

If my house sells earlier than expected, I might not be working much longer...

haha sure you can as long as you do our laundry j/k

I don't mind laundry.....as long as you cut my yard. We can barter later. One thing you must know, I don't iron.

Between now and August, I'm reading a ton of books, traveling (thinking about India, Dominican Republic, NYC, San Diego, Scottsdale, Boulder), selling my home and buying another, modeling (just auditioned for a commercial), sailing in regattas, and working at the doctor's office as a medical assistant. Plenty to do and not enough time to enjoy it all. Also not enough money to do it all.

damn you are busier than Pres.Bush..well that's not saying much😀

Ouch. hahha... you had to play the Bush card eh? Oh, and speaking of presidents (or in this case, future presidents), Barack Obama will be speaking at my school tomorrow. Kinda cool. Too bad i'll be working though.

BUT, i am working in order to save up for a cruise right after I graduate. Whoo hoo!! I can't wait. We'll be traveling to Jamaica, Grand Cayman Islands, and Cozymel.

Oh, and by the way, if anyone is interested in going on a medical mission trip to San Raymundo, Guatemala, please let me know. I went last summer and it was an amazing experience. There's going to be a group going from April 22nd - 29th, and another one going during the end of May. If anyone's interested, just PM me.

Hopefully we'll be able to do something like with DCOM in the near future.

we should all go to the osteopathic convention in san diego, there will be plenty of DO students from other schools. It will be a fun trip...

Same here..all for the medical missions. I know of a group that head to central americas for about a week, my AED group went over Christmas break to Belize last year.

As a future DCOMer, I wanna tag along on the missions trip!

I'm a scrub tech so I can help.

The ideas for medical missions and conventions sound great!

As for a little more information about myself, my name is Craig Best and I'll be making my way from Calgary, Canada. I'm really interested in eventually getting into primary care sport medicine, but ortho has also peaked my interest as of late. Mostly, though, I'm really excited about getting back into the swing of things with school and meeting my fellow classmates!

I plan on living in the re-done hotel rooms... does anyone know what furniture and appliances, if any, are part of the package?

I'll be checking out the sailing club that is just west of Knoxville. It's in Farrogate and called the Concorde Yacht Club. Thistles are active there. I haven't heard of any Lightning sailors there, although I know that is active in Nashville. I hope there will be time for me to race. Racing sailboats is a great stress reliever and keeps your mind active. I love it and hope to introduce you all to sailing.

I would love to learn. Sailing is something i've always wanted to do!!
