I'm a NREMT-Paramedic (*3 years), and I was wondering if there are any others in our class (or any students with EMS experience)? I'd like to meet you, and possibly see if we can get reciprocity in the state of TN and join a local rescue squad. Let me know.:D

I was in my EMS team at my school. I've been holding EMS-B, EMS Dispatcher and BLS Healthcare provider for 2 years. Sure, we can do that if have time.

EMS to DO. Nice!

It's possible to do reciprocity as a paramedic, but not nearly as easy (if at all anymore) as an EMT-B. TN doesn't utilize a Basic as of about two years ago and I think they have quit accepting new applications for that level as well. That being said KY has an active squad and accepts the Basic level with little effort.

Just thought someone would have this question so I'll just go ahead and help you out now.

On yalls required book list for Fall I used every book on there although I barely used the embrology book so that would be the only one I'd consider not getting. On the recommended list you should definitely buy the biochem BRS book speaking of BRS books most every subject you can get in that are pritty helpful. The other recommended books I didn't have or have the desire to use. Another great tool for fall would be the Netter's anatomy flashcards and you can sometimes find these at Barnes and Noble's although they probably charge more.

Anyways those are my book tips if anyone cares!

Does anyone know when we report for orientation? School?

http://www.lmunet.edu/dcom/academics/calendar.htm

According to this, you start orientation Tues. July 28th, and class starts Fri. July 31. We started Orientation on Wednesday, and class Friday. They should be sending more detailed info about orientation and all that later in the summer. But plan on starting orientation on that tuesday :)

Hey everyone.

I'm Dan from c/o 2012. We have set up a Mentor program for you guys in the class of 2013. If you would like a mentor that you can talk to over the summer about anything including the area, the people, the teachers, the classes, finances, life of a med student, the area activities, etc etc etc, PLEASE please please fill out the mentor application at http://www.dcomdo.com/mentor/ . If you have already filled it out and its been a significant amount of time, please fill it out again. And while you're there check out the website and feel free to send me an email at [email protected] with recommendations, etc.

Again, the mentor program is so that you, the new students can learn anything you want about the LMU-DCOM experience before you get here!

Hey Kilo! CONGRATS!! Welcome to the DCOM family!

I'm originally from Livingston, actually (boo!) but I've lived in Cookeville since I was about 18. Did you go to CHS? What year? Hey, add me on facebook if you have it! I'm the owner of the fb group. :)

Congrats to all of my soon to be family! We're gonna need each other!

If any one is looking for housing for next year, I'm a 2nd year at DCOM with a large downstairs room for rent in a house with myself and another med student. It was previously the downstairs "den" so it is large. The downstairs bathroom and shower are essentially private. The house has a full kitchen, living room, large deck, back yard fire pit, shed, internet access, satellite, etc available to any room mates. The house is 1.8 miles from DCOM.

$300/month + utilities split between three room mates.

If you're interested, email or call

Are you able to work out in the undergrad gym? I am starting DCOM in July, but I am moving to harrogate in the next two weeks and was wondering if I could get an I.D. to work out in the gym before school starts? Who would I contact about this?

If anyone is still looking for housing I own a home in Middlesboro (About 10 minutes from campus), with rooms to rent out. The house has had extensive renovations done, and each room has its own bathroom, as well as cable and high speed cable internet. There is also a large kitchen, with new appliances, and a washer and dryer in the house. There is also a community park right across the street. I do have a dog, and I am not at all opposed to having other dogs in the house. I can give anyone who is interested more information if they would like. Feel free to email me at [email protected]

The money is not that big of a deal, I just dont know if I want to buy them here and have to carry them up there. Can't wait for school to start. :)

It will definitely be cheaper to order your books online, not at the school bookstore. Whether you order them now or wait until you get to school is totally up to you.

As most of you have probably heard, reception is not the greatest at the LMU Inn. Most have to stay near their windows to even be able to use their phone.

However, there is is good news. The internet connection at the INN is not restricted and it is VPN capable meaning that Femtocell devices will work for your cell phones if your carrier offers one. I know that Sprint and Tmobile do for sure, and I am fairly confident Verizon also has one.

I have Sprint, I had about 2-3 bars Sprint service 5 feet away from the window, 2-3 bars in roaming about 10 feet from the window..but if I stepped more than 10 feet away, I would lose service entirely.

With Sprint's femtocell device called "Airave"(www.sprint.com/airave), I have full bars everywhere. There is usually a charge, but if you threaten to leave your carrier due to reception issues, they will most likely offer you the device for free and waive the monthly charge to use the device.

The trick is to get to the right Department, so if any of you guys have Sprint, I suggest you call the famous Sprint Retention team at 866-235-1185 and tell them your phlight.

So come prepared and don't freak out if you don't have cell phone service in your room, there is a solution.

Good luck! and enjoy the last few weeks of summer!

Edit: the trick is to getting an apartment facing the parking lot in the Inn, those are the students who usually retain some type of cell phone signal. If you have a room in the back facing the pool, you will most likely not have any service. The best way to tell is that if you have an even or odd number room. The odd numbered rooms face the parking lot, while the even numbered faces the back

Has anyone heard any details about orientation? I changed my address recently and wanted to see if anyone else had received anything in the mail?

I also got an e-mail from a group that is selling scrubs. Has anyone gotten any information about the scrubs that are required? I am sure these fall within the standards I would just like more details.

I haven't heard anything else about orientation either. I just received the same e-mail about the scrubs today. I'm living with an OMS-II this year, and he told me they like you to have navy scrubs. I don't think the type matters. Personally, my favorite are Dickie's.

They do kinda like you to have navy scrubs, but there are usually an assortment of colors and brands. Myself, and some others, got navy blue with my name and LMU-DCOM embroidered, but that's not a requirement.

Question about scrubs: Is the navy scrubs required? Since I do have some pairs (gray, green and light blue) from my undergrat anatomy lab, I don't want to get no more scrubs

I'm a third year looking to dump a ton of books. I was planning to throw all the ones I'm not using for rotations on half.com but thought maybe a few of you cats might like to have them at a super discount and save me a trip to the post office. I am one of the super lame-o's who buys all the books so there is a good chance i have what you need so long as i am not using it for rotations. feel free to pm me and i'll let you know what i have!

I'm hoping someone else participating in Army HPSP at DCOM can help me with a few questions. I know the handbook says HPSP won't cover computers, but since everyone has to have the same computer will they cover it? :xf:

If I'm getting school insurance is that a reimbursed expense or will it be paid for like tuition? Since a waiver is acceptable for school insurance my understanding is that it is a reimbursed expense.

Lastly, I'm still pre-enrolled/board selected on mods, but can I go ahead and get books now for reimbursement once my status changes or do I have to wait for it to change? This is probably answer somewhere in the mil med forum, but I can't seem to find it.

Hi all DCOM friends,

I am moving in school apartment next week and my door will open all the time so you guys can come over to hang out, play cards or watch TV. I just want to relax for the last couple weeks before school starts.

See you guys soon:)
