Congrats to everyone from the 20th who got in- so did I! It looks like they liked our group🙂 I was the one with long blondish hair who likes cycling. I really liked LMU so there's a good chance I"ll see you all there in the fall!

Only for basketball, which is what the Big10 should stick to anyway.

I interviewed on October 7th, 2008, and was in the first batch of students to get accepted and have never wanted to change my mind about going. It's amazing! I wish everyone the best and I'll see my fellow classmates in the fall!

I stayed at the Holiday Inn Express in Middlesbouro, Kentucky (about 10min from school). Just tell them you're a LMU-DCOM applicant and you get a discount. Cost me <$70. Also, there's a shuttle from the school that will pick you up. Driver's name is Bob and is awesome.

excellent! thanks for the info. was the shuttle free btw? some schools charge for that service, and i'll have my car, but it would def be nice not to have to deal with the stress of possibly getting lost... 🙂

The shuttle is free. So is lunch. That's shady that some schools charge.

Hey Everyone! Congrats on all the latest acceptances!!!! I wanted to post the new SGA site, I haven't perused it very thoroughly yet, but I did notice there are some postings of apartments for rent, so if you are looking for something, get on it pronto!

See, now THAT'S what we need at DCOM... more people from Alabama. And I'm with everyone else. If you can't fully count the number of teams in your conference (11 in the "Weak" 10), then maybe you shouldn;t be a conference. SEC rocks!

Congratulations to all of the new members of the Class of 2013. I hope your experience at DCOM will be as great as mine has been so far.

I will be moving for clinicals in the summer and my house will be available for rent. It is located in Middlesboro very close to the tunnel, just a block off Hwy 25 and eight minutes to school. Two bedrooms, one bath, recently remodeled, security system, appliances, washer and dryer and a back yard with a 6 ft. wooden privacy fence, corner lot, PET FRIENDLY. $500.00/mo, occupant responsible for utilities, one year lease. Send a PM with e-mail and I will be happy to forward photographs and more information. Thanks.

i talked to janette a couple of weeks ago because I am still hoping to get pulled off the waitlist and she said she would be throwing my name in there as much as possible so hopefully one of these days Ill get a call or email or letter.... and I too can be part of the class of 2013 at LMU....

Congrats to everyone that has been accepted so far! I can't wait to meet you all!

I was accepted after an interview on 10/20 (third week of interviews, I think) and I'm counting down the days! I cannot wait! SO excited!!

Don't forget, there's a facebook group! Come join!! And welcome!!!

Hey everyone, I just withdrew my acceptance, loved the school but I got in somewhere closer to home. Good luck to everyone!

Dose anybody know how many people get rejected/waitlisted after an interview? :scared:

How long is usually the wait between completion (mid December) and interview?

Hi All. I got accepted about a month ago to dcom and have been trying to find places to live for next year. If any of you first and second years have any advice, it would be greatly appreciated. I'm looking for a house 15-30 mins outside Harrogate toward Knoxville so that my wife can commute. If any of you know of landlords in the area, realty companies that manage rental properties, or just any information of a place that I could start my search, it would be greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance! Feel free to post here or just send me a PM.

I would honestly say that you have a pretty good chance. I would assume that most everyone applying to medical school lacks a little bit in one area or another (besides the superstars).

Premed worrier:
thanks for the words of incouragement. Im very nervous especially since i took a tour of LMU-DCOM and i feel in love with it! It would definetely be a heartbreak if i didnt at least get an interview.
Thanks again

I was showing some family members some of the youtube videos today and a couple of them would not play sound.... some kind of copyright problem. Anyway, the guy that is making the videos is doing a great job

I would say you definitely have a chance. I have your exact same stats as an OH resident and I got an interview and waitlisted at LMU-DCOM and was just accepted at LECOM-Bradenton with a couple other interviews still to come. GOOD LUCK!👍

Ditto. I had similar stats as well, and I got in at DCOM and elsewhere, and several other interview invites, and I applied pretty late (november-december). You can't change those B's now, so don't stress and worry about things you can no longer control! Enjoy alllll the free time you have now 🙂

Can you give me any advice as far as Volunteering? or improving my profile somehow? did they give you an advice when you got interview? I have shadowed 3 DO's, played 4 yrs of lacrosse, volunteer lacrosse coach, worked in a lab for 8months...Im just fearing that its not enough :-(

It's difficult to assess the validity of someone's experiences, but as a general rule shadowing three DOs can be good if it was for more than a day or two. One day a week for a year is nice. Three days a week for six months is good too. One day each is no good. Lacrosse volunteering doesn't really count (albeit more fun).

Here's what you need to do to assess yourself. Imagine you're the admissions committee and you have 3,500 applications for ~160 spots. You want to pick people who are academically capable, pleasant to work with, want to be a doctor, and KNOW what it's going to be like to be a doctor (as best they can). The only way you can have any understanding of what the medical profession is like will be through meaningful time spent working/volunteering in the medical profession along side physicians. When you feel as though your application shows enough relevant exposure that an admissions committee would feel comfortable that you know what you're getting into you've done enough.

Hey can anyone that goes to LMU tell me how schedule is like your first year? Like Monday-Friday what is the daily schedule like? ie 8 am to 4 pm?

On top of that, is there a student run website / blog where there are a ton of LMU pictures and dorm pictures? Thanks!

So pretty much everyday its like 8-4 then?

Yeah I've seen that schedule lol but sometimes that thing looks confusing.

Yeah I've seen that schedule lol but sometimes that thing looks confusing.

We have lectures starting at 8:30AM everyday for 3 hours. Then we break for lunch. Depending on what courses you're in, you'll have lab a couple of days a week (more when you're in anatomy) and those are in the afternoon. The class is split into A and B group, so if you see those on the schedule, you only have to be present during your block of time. It varies from week to week, but on lab days, you either get a long lunch (11:30AM - 2:30PM) or you get out of class early that day (2:30PM). Does that help?

So pretty much everyday its like 8-4 then?

Yeah I've seen that schedule lol but sometimes that thing looks confusing.

During first semester you are guaranteed to be in class 8:30-11:30 Mon-Fri.

We had anatomy lab or OPP lab Mon, Wed, and Thurs, which would be from 12:30-2:30 or 2:30-4:30 depending on whether you were an A or B (we switched each week so that the same group didn't always have first lab)

Tuesdays we had EPC in the afternoon (essentials of patient care), which normally resulted in a lecture from 12:30-1:30 and then lab time to learn how to do the exams (cardio exam, lung exam, abdominal exam, etc)

It seems like we had a lot of friday afternooons off, and if we didn't, we would occasionally have lectures, or have case studies for one of the classes.

Now this semester, we don't have anatomy lab twice a week, so we have a lot less non-class time. We have OPP on wednesday afternoons still, and EPC on tuesday afternoons, but Mon, Thurs, and Fri afternoons now have classes. So far, we have usually been having 2 lectures after lunch, so here from 12:30-2:30 on Mon, Thurs, and Fri. (still have lectures every morning from 8:30-11:30) But I think as the semester goes on and we get into the systems, our schedules are going to get a bit more full.

Hope that helps some! I know the schedule online is kind of confusing!

Thanks for the clarification. Can't wait till I start in August/late July!

Just one more question, I recently submitted my housing application (like a month ago, with my deposit) for a single bedroom studio. Do the rooms get full, or will there most likely be plenty of rooms to accommodate students?

Awhile back people were asking about financial aid packets. I received what I would consider a financial aid packet today in the mail FYI.

They should have quite a few, but I it depends on how many are interested as to whether they will have enough rooms. It's first come, first serve though. I'm sure you'll be fine.

Alright, thanks. I sure hope so, otherwise I'll have to scramble at the last minute and find some housing. And I don't think that'll be too fun lol.

Hey guys, I withdrew my acceptance today, so hopefully one of you who is waiting will hear good news soon!
